This game reminds me of my uncle. This was one of his favorite arcade games, I teached him how to use emulators and installing Mame roms so he could play it some time to get the memories. Unfortunately, last year in 30th of June he passed away because of a heart attack. I started having depression since then. Fortunately I'm feeling better now, but his death won't get out of my head.

The first game designed by Takashi Nishiyama, who would later become the creator of Kung Fu Master, Street Fighter and Fatal Fury. He is truly the Miyamoto of arcade games.

I was completely addicted to this game when I was a kid in the 80s. It's great to read all of these comments and to think how the game was played at the same time in different parts of the world with the same enthusiasm, never thought of that back then when I played, spending lunch money, it, was never enough, and I was gooood :)

Put lots of money into this game in the early 80:s at the local petrol station (where a bunch of arcade and flipper games where in a sideroom). Good memories. As where Galaxians, Zaxxon, Decathlon, some car-racing games (viewed from above) and loads of other games over the years at that station (and also a local restaurant/grill)... Good memories.

fun fact: It's designer (Takashi Nishiyama) would later be one of Street Fighter co-creators and also would be an important member of SNK Neo Geo era, producing and idealizing many games, such as Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting and The King of Fighters. Later on he left SNK to create Dimps (3rd party developer of many Bandai-Namco games and SF4/SFV), which he's the president until this day.

This was one of my favorites back in the day, possibly my #1 favorite (Joust and Galaga are pretty good too). One of my favourite in the 80s. I lost a fortune playing it in the games room in my neighbourhood in Poland. Some curiosities: - I was able to pass rolling balls on full speed in O-T section, as well as tanks in T-Z - Sometimes we were able to reach 58 seconds in A-E section of the beginner course. Normally driving at full speed all the time gave you 59 sec. but jumping during the start gave you this extra second (or maybe it was a different trick?) - We were always curious what was the algorithm of awarding points after shoting a small space ship that you needed to jump over (A-E section in the champion course). From 500 to 1000 points but was it pure random? - The guy that owned the games room saw that we excelled at Moon Patrol spending more and more time on a single credit and once he disabled the low speed, so that you could drive only at medium and fast speed. What a mean guy! I.e. it was impossible to pass the second minefield in J-O section because the mines were too close to each other to jump over on medium speed. But we managed to jump in the critical moment two mines at a time at full speed! :-) Hey, any other tricks?
