I have a theory that the reason Patrick Bateman is so relatable to so many is not because his life is desirable, or because of the power fantasy, but because the character is so troubled. You don't have to be a rich douchebag to possess Bateman's anger and antipathy, or to live a lie. The Wall Street assholes who actually want to be like him are probably more along the lines of Bateman's less psychotic colleagues. After all, Bateman _lost_ the battle of the business cards.

His accent changes based on what movie he's working on during that particular interview. That's how it is for most method actors. It's easier for them to keep their character's accent rather than switching it off when they're not filming. I learned that in an interview with Camilla Luddington. She's English (the voice of Lara Croft in the reboot games) but she was on some American TV show so she tries to keep her American accent when the show was in production.

This video is a bit misleading in some parts, including his early career. Treasure Island wasn't Bale's second movie, it was his fifth. He didn't feature in any releases in 1988, after starring in two movies (Empire in the Sun and Mio in the Land of Faraway) and a miniseries (Heart of the Country) in 1987, but in 1989 he was back on the big screen in Henry V which was filmed in 1988. BTW, his first movie role was in a 1986 Anastasia movie, as Anastasia's brother Alexei, the sickly heir apparent of the Russian Empire.

I love it when actors take on interesting projects rather than big paydays, like Chris Evans, who did things like Sunshine, Push, Scott Pilgrim, and Snowpiercer. Of course, a lot of those were before Captain America, but Marvel probably made it hard to have much free time back then.

I remember people started hating on Christian Bale because he said, "Hollywood (and the World) Would Be Better If 'White Dudes' Weren't in Charge of Everything. So much better films and so much more interesting stories if white dudes weren't running Hollywood."

He's very disciplined and also professional and modest. One of the very best in his field. I can see why people admire and look up to him, and would wish to emulate his ways in their own lives. On the other hand I see what you mean as well. Our society is warped and our actors shouldn't really be held up as our heroes.

While I worked in restaurants, we used to get a wide range of famous/celebrity customers. Best approach was not to fawn over them, but treat them like another customer. The tips were awesome! Simple people, simple pleasures. On the other hand everyone knows that when some clown starts with: “do you know who I am?” That’s the intro to a crappy experience putting up with their insecurities (and normally NO tip).
