Moon Waterfall Photo Manipulation (GIMP Tutorial)

In this GIMP 2.10 tutorial, I show you how to create a glowing "moon waterfall" photo manipulation. In the photo, it appears the moon is dripping or melting into a waterfall. This really cool effect can be done using a couple of photos, layers and layer masks, and the warp transform tool (plus a couple of other tools/techniques). I thoroughly explain each step in the process for creating the final photo, making it easy for beginners to follow.

Wow! Who doesn't love a glowing orb. Such a creative and awesome effect. I will revisit this tutorial soon. Right now, the imagination is in overdrive. Also, the retention of the subject will definitely not stick with only one viewing (heheh). I love images of a long, streaming and colorful nebula in space. I'll have to experiment one day by using several techniques to join the moon with the nebula. Maybe use a dissolve on a liquid transform of a section of the moon. Who knows what will happen. Thanks for the inspiration.

In parallel to all your courses on photo manipulations, do you also have a video course on how to allocate more memory towards Gimp, for situations when we know we are going to work on very large images (i.e. 3000 by 3000 px) images? In these situations I simply want a process to happen faster, such as adding white to a background layer. It shouldn't take 3 minutes. I'm hoping I can find the right settings so stuff like that can only take 15 seconds at most.

Oof I tried to follow this but in 2.10.22 the color level interface is quite different in that decimal values aren't an option with black and white and they default to 255 max instead of 100 unless I'm doing something wrong and simply can't figure out how to set it to a percentage which would make a LOT more sense! So I simply used 10% of 255which wound up being 230/255 to emulate the 90/100! I'm trying to get approximately the same result as you Mike but it's a ball park at best! Also I tried the steps to remove the Moon's black background and everything worked as expected until after hitting the ctrl+i in which the delete key did nothing but make the screen flicker with no change!
