KZbin recomended me this and i watched even though i have no plans of building a moonboard. It was very good and i loved that you showed the 3d model

good job. looks great - for others trying to build a similar board I would recommend screwing the lowest plywood sheet to the frame before erecting as this gives the frame rigidity to ensure the frame is square as you screw the subsequent sheets in. It also acts as a base to align your second, third sheet and so on in. You could also screw all your sheets in first and then use a ratcheting system to hoist the frame up which seems like a tedious step but it far less of a headache than trying to screw a heavy ply sheet from underneath! I would also recommend simplifying the details at the kicker and vertical stays which only require straight cuts. Much less scope for error and you will only require a circular saw to construct. Just my two cents having built a very similar board of my own!

@@daoruwang5247 we have a badly designed moonboard at our local gym @ 45° and it kind of sucks - really nice build you have made though! Maybe not as a moonboard as it kills all grades on the app :(
@daoruwang5247 Жыл бұрын
@@Domje Thanks for the compliment! Yes, the angle differences totally change the grades. I did it this way cause I was planning to move to a new place with a higher ceiling, so I can easily change the angle later.

Yes it's a great idea. My board is 40° but is outside in the gsrden... Just need to buy moon holds. Your wall looks amazing though, very aesthetically pleasing 🙂

Amazing work, the 3D modelling part was wooow, I would just build it randomly from my head and then get crashed by it on the first climbing attempt

LOL, thanks for saying that! I am an architect, so that's what I do for a living - to ensure nothing crashes.

Nice job, I feel like I could never make something like this myself. Also 50 degree moonboard so hard!

I had to cut my top plywood panel in half in order to get it up with just one other person. Definitely the hardest part. Great video, I love the build!
@daoruwang5247 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for saying that! Right, installing the plywood was much more challenging than I expected.

Trying to do it myself with a ratchet system ended up giving me a black eye. Definitely recommend having at least one partner, or a smarter ratchet system!
@TheTonVeron Жыл бұрын
A good trick when adding the higher pieces of ply wood was adding a few blocks onto the front-top edge of the lower panel. That allows the bottom edge of the new piece to be held so you only need to hold the top and align the panel horizontally. You can then use those blocks for some blocking to help prevent any warping of the 2x6s. The 3rd one is still quite hard, and at a less steep angle it's even higher.

Excellent video and beautiful wall, Daoru! Your digital model is pristine. I'm working on my first home wall (built in a shed) and have made a much less refined digital model. If you'd like to see it, let me know, I'd love to get your feedback.

Nice job. Quick question: after using it for some time do you find the vertical columns interfering at all? I am thinking some problems where you have to dyno for a hold and end up flying backwards
@daoruwang5247 Жыл бұрын
I totally understand your concern, and that is why I have an extra foot of space for both sides of the moonboard. So far, I have never hit those columns myself, but it is definitely possible.

Hi Daoru! This video was amazing, im planning to follow your build to do my own moon board. Could you send me the model/measurements for a 40 degree wall with the kickboard revised for full length?

how i could i self-teach basic best practices for making a frame like this? i get stuck wondering what are super-good-enough methods to join the wood in different ways, or even when i should use pilot holes, if at all. basic, basic stuff. im designing my own board and im an engineer with no background in this.

Is this the 40 degree mooboard or the mini version? I have 2.5m height, I know the main moonboard is just over 3m, but is that referring to the length of the face or the total height needed? thanks!
@daoruwang52476 ай бұрын
This is a 50-degree full-size moonboard, 2.5m is too low. A full-size moonbaord needs at least 3.5m in height.

hi daoru, I just received a diy kit from moon board, and i would like to replicate your design. could you send me the revised model for a 10 foot tall, full size moon board? thank you! thank you for posting!
@daoruwang52472 жыл бұрын
Hi Rachel, is 10 feet a hard limit? If you want to make the 40 degrees moon board, which is the standard one, while keep my version of the kickboard, which is 0.8 feet tall, the overall height of the board is still 10.528 feet.
@daoruwang52472 жыл бұрын
I just made a standard moonboard file and uploaded it to the folder. It has a 40 degrees angle and a 370 mm tall kickboard, which make the overall height up to 10.843 feet. You can play with the top panels and the header joist, and it is possible to make it down to 10.4 feet or something like that. Please let me know if you have any questions.

hi I am planning to make my own spray wall/moonboard if I purchase the holds and am wondering if there is a simple way to change the angle of the board? I would want it to be 30 degrees, do you know if the 3d model can be adjusted by just modifying one component like some other softwares will do?
@cwtag6 ай бұрын
When I built mine 6 years ago I did not find any good simple ideas out there, so I did not pursue. Maybe you'll find something cool out there now but I wouldn't recommend spending too much thought time on it like I did, since it drove me crazy.

If you're going to diverge from the standard Moonboard design, then the problem grades won't match up. So why build a Moonboard at all? You could buy a collection of random holds for a much lower cost.
@daoruwang5247 Жыл бұрын
Cause when I moved to a space with higher ceiling, I can change the angle in 5 mins, so it will be standard
