Thanks for the review Tom! I just wanted to clarify one thing, the 1-8 and 1-10x Banshee features ED glass which minimizes chromatic aberrations. So it might confuse some that noticed chromatic aberration in this video. The 1-6x market is so competitive that we had to forgo that for now as it would allow us to keep the price extra low, but we will have a 1-6x model later on that will come with ED glass as well!

What I look for in a product is value for the money. If a manufacturer said "Ok, we will knock $200 off, but there will be some chromatic aberration around the edges," I would say THANK YOU! And then "Hey, for knocking off another $200.....how about making it so that I can't read the bottom 3 lines on an eye chart, but I can still see small bullseyes at 100 yards?" Then when they say "Sure," I would buy that scope on the SPOT!!! Of course if I am spending $700 on a scope and mount, I don't expect that scope to have these deficiencies. But to save $400 or more......I think I can put up with them. You know how much ammo that buys?

Love your comparison videos! This is the 3rd Monstrum vs X I've seen, the other two were the Banshee vs Sig and the Panzer vs Vortex. Of the three, this is the first time I've noticed Monstrum to have worse chromatic abberation (and in this case, there was a lot of purple). Even with that, they're still giving at least 90% visual quality (probably better than that), at a fraction of the cost. I've got a couple of their Banshees, and another even cheaper off-brand 1-4 I picked up a couple years ago off Classic. They're good enough for me. I see people talking about durability, but I haven't seen that the budget ones fail... and I'm a regular civilian plinking and shooting at targets, I'm not beating my gear to death. Like I said, for my uses, they're good enough for me. I like that you've mentioned they are still holding zero. That's really the big thing. The clarity and brightness are enough for the average joe, as long as they don't lose zero. I'm going to mount one of the Banshees on a C308 (Cetme with a rail on top), another on an AR 10. I figure if anything will knock them off zero, the Cetme would be the one to do it. We shall see.

You have produced great comparison videos that will enable the end user to evaluate what they are getting for the money. With that said it cannot be overstated that the value of the clarity of the glass is an extremely important feature. Not so much with getting hits on target but more importantly seeing where you are missing to make corrections. What was not measured was the quality of the tracking of the reticle and that of the turrets. It’s also worth noting that turrets that do not have a solid lock up and are mushy will degrade over time. Country of origin is also an important factor to consider. The Viper PST is made in the Philippines, where they have a solid reputation for producing a good quality scope. 600 dollars is a fair price to pay for a product that is well built and is considered by many to be the leader in its price group. I would rather pay a fair price for a great product than get a great deal on a fair product.

Thank you for this. If I just had one or two rifles (but come on, who just has one or two rifles), I probably wouldn'tgive this Optic a second thought, but when you have 10+ rifles, putting a Vortex on each one gets too expensive. Yes, you can swap your scope from rifle to rifle, but then you have to spend time re-zeroing, which is time and money. This gives you a better option with plenty left over for ammo.

Let's say a decent mount is $50- that puts these 2 optics 500 bucks apart. Today PSA is offering a complete AR with Magpul furniture and a polished mil spec trigger for $499. Toss the Monstrum on that rifle and you'll have a complete decent setup for the cost of just the next level optic- which practically speaking isn't really "next level- and the PSA will keep up, too.

The flip to side function on the Monstrum magnifiers is better than most in its price range and comparable to the more expensive magnifiers. I've had the Banshee 1-6 with the big MX1 MOA reticle for a while. It's really fast on target at 1X , like a really good red dot. The red square with the small red dot in the center is great close up and at long range. I wanted a second one for another rifle. Then i got an email from Monstrum about a deal on the new Daylight Bright 1-6 Banshee. Comparing them, I like the old MX1 a little better, because it's faster in low light at 1X. The daylight Bright has wider reticle lines, that can cover up tiny targets. But make it fast at 1X. Looking closer at the dot, I can just make out the ends of three or four optical fibers. Redundancy? The red filber dot is going on my long range AR and I'm going to try the MX1 Banshee on a 9mm PCC.

@@Moondog2A They are fat on the outside and thinner in the middle with none touching the little center Dot. It's easy to hold on a small target. I noticed the bottom section of the fat reticle on the new scope was covering up my red Laser Dot on targets out at 20 to 50 yds. In Low light, I put the Laser in Flashing mode and it didn't help. By tweaking the Laser off zero a tad, I can see it clearly in the scope. It's a low pwr Laser that holds zero well. Making it easier to get a useful zero, when I swap scopes or RDSs around. I certainly like the Monstrum products. I have a SFP scope, but looking over the on-line manual for the Spectre & Banshee 1-10, you don't get the subtension information in the reticle shown in the manual. As far as I can tell, it's nowhere to be found on their website. I e-mailed support and was told to look on the product page. It lists the MOAs but not the corresponding yardage values for the 5.56 calibrated reticle. I'm not in any way pleased with their support & product documentation.

I haven't taken it to the range yet, but what I'm really wondering is: what can't it do? Is the image "perfect"? None are, but can I hit targets at 500 yards? I will find out. At 2x to 5x the eye box is beautiful, but it gets difficult to use closer to 10x, as expected really. I guess it's really a question of whether it will hold up after a bunch of shooting. Even expensive scopes can fail eventually, so keep that in mind.

I think its hard to tell with a small sample size which one has greater value. I think there is a fairly good baseline for the life of a Vortex over an extended period of time but not of the Monstrum. Also. How durable is it. Can it be dropped or knocked around for a bit. If it’s as durable you hope, then the difference might be negligible and the Monstrum might be the better buy. But if its used over a longer period of time and starts showing problem, then the price difference is not as great since the value you arent getting out of the Monstrum doesn’t justify going the budget route.

Now that would be a torture test. But they don't do head-to-head comparisons as far as I recall?

The viper has a zero stop, although very outdated. Don't see the click adjustments on the banshee.

For 4-5x as much as the banshee the viper is no where near 4-5x better. Monstrum is the clear choice unless you’re a gear queer 🤷🏾♂️
