Morning Dell well I think you have made a great start to the tail unit, I could sence a slight hesitation just before you laid the first piece of clay but we'll done for your courage. Looking forward to seeing it come together. I realize this is an afterthought but my wife, who works with plaster (in hospital) made the suggestion that if you were to do something like this again, to try plaster of Paris bandage to make the first layer, allowing you to sculpt the shape more without the hassle of pushing the clay through the wire, then with the plaster dry you could build up the shape sooner and with less weight from the clay. Maybe for a future project? Anyway, looking forward to seeing the next installment.

Hi Andy, it's an amazing idea and would be the best way to make a solid layer, some also said expanding foam underneath, and even cling film over the mesh... but as I'm a couple of videos ahead, then today I got started on the fibre glass, which meant fine tuning the clay shape... amd a really handy by-product of the mesh and clay was that I can still push the clay through the mesh, I soaked the whole thing for a few days under wet rags and plastic, to keep the clay soft... and in the final shaping was able to massge it to perfect symmetry, which I wouldn't have been able to do if I'd made a solid base layer, I'd have had to shape it by carving, which is less accurate with so many round surfaces... so much as it was difficult to get the first layer on, it was handy at the end ! Thanks for watching mate, learning as I go, but for a future project, I will bear your wife's idea in mind as it's a trick too good not to use - cheers !

Hiya del , just a thought ..could you have used a cling film cover over the mesh to stop the clay from going thru ...?

Hi Kev, could have done mate, that's common sense, but actually it's worked out to my advantage - I film a couple of videos ahead, so today I filmed the final shaping and the first layers of fibre glass, what was really great was actually being able to massage the bumps down on the clay by wetting the surface so it's slippy, then gently massage the bumps away, which pushes the clay through the mesh, so in the end (and it was unplanned!) it turned out better to leave the mesh open... learning as I go, every day's a school day !

You tube is great bruv. I no longer use normal Tele, if you can call it that. What a great thing this video was. You are learning while filming that makes for great content bruv. It's real reality tv. It looks like it's going ok the shape in nice it's a bit of old school muscle bike look just a bit shorter, I like it. Given me some ideas too. Now I've seen it done I will attempt it my self now I've been thinking about using a made mould for a while now. I may try it with oasis foam that you use trot flowers. When it's dry it cuts and when it wet it moulds. Thanks for the inspiration bruv I'm gonna give it a go to make a belly pan for the fizzer. Take care and ride safe bruvva. Say hello to the pitstop miester from me and the family. The channel needs her bubblyness back, she seems to really enjoy doing it and it brings a presence of silliness and fun. Not that it isnt a great channel already👍🤘🤘. Just a thpught bruvva😁😁😁

Ayup Ray, thanks for your kind words... I love the oasis option, I've had some great ones over this last week or so... plaster bandage (for broken arms etc!) was the most ingenious... in the end (I'm always filming a couple of videos ahead) having the mesh open with soft clay I was able to massage it through the mesh where I needed to to fine tune the shape and get it dead symmetrical... like you said, learning as I go, never done it before, and it's so much fun...! Penny's always here buddy, she plays a huge part with post-production, couldn't produce three videos a week without her... you know why she's been absent, there's always someone who spoils it for everyone else .... take care brother, catcha soon, D&Px

I've found the clay working oddly satisfying to watch. The tail looks really good although for me it's a little bit to sharp on the top.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Cheers buddy, it was a lot of fun to massage it in to the final shape and I lifted the tail at the rear to match the top line of the tank, remember it's up on a paddock stand, so the rear will drop an inch, or so, when it's on it's wheels... it should sit level when viewed from the side... I don't want a caff racer look, as it's a streetfighter.. just the basic structure first, I can modify it once the basics made !

Wow, that must require a lot of patience and contingency. Well done Del, I’m learning so much from this tail end. I’m on tenterhooks and can’t wait to see the finished product. Hopefully you and the Penstar are enjoying this glorious sunshine of late. All the best pal!

Ayup Dai, good to hear from you brother... am a couple of videos ahead and have about 3.5hrs of footage to edit, but it's in fibre glass now, and am finally relieved that it's come out straight and square at least ! Still a long way to go but making progress and loving every minute of it.... finally some riding weather, and work permitting, maybe we should nail down a plan for that ride, at least in pencil... over the next couple of months or so, what d'ya say?! Have a great weekend, chat soon buddy, love to the family... D&Px

Moonfleet41 in fibre glass now aye?!?!? How awesome is that. Can’t wait to see that!!!!! I rode up to Buckinghamshire this afternoon on the RSV4, glorious sunshine on the way up and pissing it down on the way back. Oh well, the sunshine was nice while it lasted lol. 💯 % up for that ride, just say when and I’ll be there! Might be going up to mackiebass’ meet up next month too, if you’re up for it.

Ha ha.. well i may well not be able to part with it after wat could be well over 600 hours work and commitment.. there is still the XJR Turbo to sell for the next donor bike... and having been riding it for a few days lately...it could be a good idea, im gonna get myself on soooo much trouble with that thing.. its just sooo quick, the acceleration is addictive.. still got lots to do yet, so plenty of time to decide.. Thanks dave, have a good weekend mate... Del.

I tried making a plus using celotex foam and masking tape. Worked surprisingly well but never thought if doing it this way. Next time I attempt it I'll try this way. Looks interesting for curves as the unit I tried was a flat tracker style seat so was all flat and sharp

Sure thing buddy, I've had some amazing suggestions through this, expanding foam, pre-cast foam, oasis (the flower stuff!), and even paper maiche... all would work great, just different ways to do it...! The great thing with the clay is that once it's all loaded up and in shape, you can muscle it about and fine tune the shape and symmetry by massaging the bumps around...!

There is a reason car designers use clay, it's much better for sculpting precisely. This way he will also not have the risk of it slipping, it will grip much better to the mesh.

@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Pete, you read it right, it's useless letting it dry out, this cracked up badly over two days, so I put a second layer on and thickened it right up for Weds video, and I covered it in tissue and rags, wetted it down and wrapped it in a bin liner ready for today's filming, and it came out soft and 'mush-able' ! ... so I could muscle it in the shape I wanted... wish me luck !
