You'd be about the only guy I've seen on youtube that would use a RING SPANNER to undo this nut on the clutch adjuster, other shops will use an open ended spanner, DURRRR. Great bent coathanger tip Del, nice one. Don't know about the Dyna but on the Sportster you check the clutch cable free play by pulling the cable out of the lever rather than moving the clutch lever itself, which is the way I always used to do it too ;)

A video well done! Very well explained. One suggestion when checking the primary chain one would also remember to find the tightest part of the primary chain by turning and that can be done by different ways, such as Back wheel off the ground etc. But all primary chain have a tight and a loose spot. And one want to make adjustments from that tightest part of the chain. So that when buttoned up and the chain is hot from running, we do not have an extremely tight area causing stress on the bearings. Thanks again for fine video.

I just installed a compensator delete and removed and put back on my clutch to do so. I try and start the bike up she runs but the clutch just completely engages the lever is has all play. I did change the primary fluid as well. I loosened the clutch cable under the boot halfway and check the clutch but the threaded bolt you said that should freely turn does not I rotate it left and right and it’s hitting plates I believe

I put a fp3 tuner on it and had to add cycle map and auto tuner a as looking for more 103 I brought se211 cams dron a guy brand new 100 bucks . What else can I do or can I just ad cam and returns or ad z high flips oil pump and upgrade rocker springs . Hoping just to install and go but not sure if I need more upgrades . Good point on room temperature. I usually do my primary drain after dinner, let the bike sit with the derby cover off overnight, do my adjustment in the coolness of early morning (backed off 3/4 of a turn because I’m in Florida) and then add my primary oil. Makes for a good, long-lasting adjustment.

Hello Del, I replaced the (8) friction plates on my heritage 93 because bike always felt sluggish didn’t replaced steel plates nor spring plate. At first the new clutch still felt sluggish with the old spring plate that looked like it was worked before so we removed it with by adding the additional friction plate and the two steel plates. Now it feels very strong when I release the clutch halfway the bike wants to go forward really strong super nice but at the very end of the release I still feel the bike it’s losing power like it was starting from second gear or not enough gas, with the old spring plate it was way way worst now it’s very strong at first but still missing that ending and when I checked the mechanic adjustment the screw was all the way in at cold like it had no free play on the derby adjustment. The bike has easy pull clutch don’t know if this makes any difference in the adjustment itself, I did the re adjustment myself using the half a turn and still feel that missing last power from the clutch don’t know if it’s better or worse now, I sometimes hear a spark ping when trying to take off specially with a passenger on, but the neutral is easy to find the gears shift correctly also the bike feels very strong when releasing clutch until last 3/4 of release, it’s just at the end I feel sluggish response like it was starting from 2 gear when starting from a full stop otherwise the bike feels strong and normal running and shifting. where do you think it’s the problem? Spark timing off losing power ? Slow jet too small on carb size 42 ? or derby screw adjusted incorrectly to much play ? “ screw too much counterclockwise” or too little play “screw too much clockwise”? Or too little free play in the lever? It’s like the clutch starts to work with lever at 1/2 and then takes too much to fully engage

Andres you have talked about clutch, AND fueling, it's important to isolate possibilities one by one so that eventually you arrive at the problem.. So first, looking at the clutch. You said you have an "easy pull" mechanism fitted ! That is not standard. so when looking for a standard performance from your clutch, first consider if that part is either not working right or not right for your bike.. Those 'light pull' mechanisms spread the pulling load over a wider and shallower ramp at the end of the cable, this means that the cable will need to be pulled further to release the plates. Often you will have to set it to bite closer to the bar and make sure you have the requisite 3mm of free play in the lever when it's released ! One good way to identify the light pull ramp as the problem is to take it out and fit the factory ramp mechanism back in. That will tell you right away if the light pull item was your problem.! That is the most 'stand out' issue based on your explanation, so start with that, if it cures the issue, then all good, if not then let me know and we can dig deeper to try and identify what's up. I had some people telling me to tighten the screw in until plate raises slightly the release it back just till the plate settles again. That aint how the shop manual says to do it. Your was is more correct in my opinion

That's it the adjusting I'm not getting it right or not looking at something causing it I don't seei just ran up to the store first couple of times it hit 3 Rd fine then keeps missing it it's going beyond third in-between like 3 &4 th if I tP lightly on the shifter it goes into third if I don't then it misses fourth and goes into 5th?

@@peteclaps1339 The clutch pack adjustment is purely to allow for heat expansion, so it can expand and contract and not slip or drag... but if you're having issues selecting between gears, it could be worth taking a closer look at the transmission itself, drop the oil and make sure there's no debris in there. With the engine off and the back wheel lifted, you should be able to 'hand' shift up and down through the gears easily.. if you can't then you may have a bent selctor fork in the box..! not common, but possible if you've been stamping on it from time to time. !! just some thoughts.!

It shifts easy and smoothly just pops out third or seems to get cought in-between 3rd and 4th meaning it's passing third but not quite into 4th just a light tap down puts it in third I am currently as we speak messing with the pawl not sure what the initial adjust would be if a new was installed say,then adjust accordingly I'd assume not sure how I'm supposed to be doing this really I learn flying by the seat of my pants:) thanks for your time bro.
