I remember enjoying this book, but I think it's just because the deeply unpleasant characters are more fun for me to read about. I just wish this series could ever have characters realize things and make changes on their own instead of needing 20 ghosts and an external threat to tell them.

Everyone congratulate Nightcloud on her divorce 😌Throw the whole man away. I know this book retcons a lot but I've always preferred "Crowfeather is hung up on his past relationships and is a bad dad and husband" to "Nightcloud is a controlling harpy and Breezepelt was born evil" so I'll take it. Nightcloud fans who survived POT/OOTS are stronger than any US marine

All three of them are a little bit awful. Crowfeather is a terrible husband and father because he’s too hung up on his exes and resents his current family as a result. Nightcloud is too soft on Breezepelt in an attempt to make up for Crowfeather’s behavior and is awful to Crowfeather at times. Breezepelt was not born evil and it’s 100% due to his parents that he’s terrible but he did do evil things and trauma doesn’t excuse that.

I mean. Is Crowfeather being a bad father and husband even a retcon? He was weirdly touchy and vindictive towards Leafpool in PO3/OOTS. Jaypaw, Lionpaw, and Hollypaw all thought that he was a bad dad and was glad that he wasn’t their dad. And he immediately blamed Nightcloud for him having a bad relationship to Breezepelt without examining his own role in the matter. I’d say Crowfeather being a bad father and husband was a consistent part of his character for two whole series.

​@@imaginarylivingbody7154 crowfeather and breezepelts writing is actually fairly consistent in po3 and oots. crowfeather is a neglectful and abusive father (don't forget he hits breezepelt in what is described as a "hard blow") and breezepelt is troubled and acting out bc of it. Nightcloud barely exists until the writers decide she's a woman they can blame for his actions (and certain parts of the fandom lap it up). the biggest retcon in this book (aside from breezepelt not attacking windclan anymore) is that Nightclouds sole defining trait is no longer bitch lmao
