I've seen multiple people in the comment secotion on this channel ask "can you play this song on a seven string lyre?" The answer is yes. (I will be posting this comment on every video so everyone can see it). I had the same problem so I tuned my lyre to be E F G A B C D so I'd be able to play *almost* any song on this channel. The only problem in tuning the lyre this way is that you can't play 2 of the same notes on the lyre on higher cords Example: (G G') When that happens just play the singular G note if it looks like this: G G' -Just play the G note twice It works but you may have to occasionally tune the cords for certain songs that are higher or lower pitched of your song. This way works (for most songs)and I know because I learned a few songs already!

Hi, loving the videos. Could you breifly explain the difference between the lyres you link to please?
@SamanthaonMars2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pete. Great question! The 16-string lyres are suitable for a wide range of music, while the 7-string pentatonic is more limited and specific to Germanic music. In fact, I only use the 7-string for meditation. I linked to three 16-string lyres which differ in sound and playability. I have a separate video showing all their differences that will help you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2TdZYJ4iamHerM

Thanks for your videos! So to play sharp notes, you need to pinch 2 chords, right? is there some rules as to know which one to pinch?
@SamanthaonMars Жыл бұрын
Hi. This song doesn't require sharp notes. For other songs, in general, to play sharp notes (or flat notes), you usually need to tune the string to the corresponding note. Pinching two strings together hasn't worked well for me. It's always a good idea to check the specific tuning requirements for the song you want to play. Usually, I have that written down in my video descriptions.

Learning to play the lyre is like "music by numbers", but the thing that got me interested in the first place is the many references made to the lyre in the Psalms, such as, "Awake, harp and lyre; I will awaken the dawn!" Psalm 108:2 I absolutely love this piece by Beethoven, your beautiful minimalistic videos and lovely voice. If you would consider it, I would love to see an an arrangement and video for an evensong type piece, such as this one, "Come, Risen Lord, and Deign to Be Our Guest," by George Wallace Briggs, tune "Song 4," by Orlando Gibbons: kzbin.info/www/bejne/embadnubpNJjiac
