GREAT VIDEO! Love how you got right into it and talked about the pros and cons. Very informative! The only thing I wish you talked about, was the time it took to engrave and or cut the items to give us an idea of how fast or slow this machine is cause it's hard to estimate it with the high speed fast time lapse you did on the video.

Great video. I just received the riser base and conveyor from xTool. I notice in the manual for the riser base that it advises you to not pick up, or move the S1, once the riser base is installed. I assume that is because of the small number of screws holding everything together. Based on that, I don't think I would take it to a craft show.

Uh oh I've moved mine a dozen times lol. I hope that doesn't damage it.

greetings friend, how deep does s1 20w engrave on hard steel and how much does s1 with IR 2w laser? is the engraving easy to remove or is it deeper in the material?

Sorry I have not used the 20w or IR for this machine. The S1 does well in penetrating the metal though.

Nice review. Interesting comments about the conveyor. If it only does less than 3/4” and it has to be really flat, that could be a problem. I haven’t come across too many boards that were that thin and still perfectly flat. What would the solution be, a taller riser box? Not an expert and haven’t seen one of these in person. But I assume that the laser itself could be raised farther up than the riser does by whatever support as long as it’s stable and level. I’m guessing it’s the height of the conveyor that is limiting workpiece thickness. Edit: I just watched another video about the conveyor. I saw on it that the drive roller attachment, whatever it’s really called, is connected to the front of the laser and over the top of the conveyor. So, by seeing that it looks like raising the laser wouldn’t have any effect because the conveyor would have to be raised too. Still like the conveyor idea though.
@MoonpieCreations10 ай бұрын
I’ve been playing with it and I’m starting to like it. It allows me to do larger signs on hardwood. I think most of my issues were inexperience with the conveyor system. There are issues with every system I’ve used. The fun part is learning to overcome it. 😂

Pretty cool machine, thanks for the review. BTW do you have a video showing the engrave and cut tests where you explain what you look for to get optimal engravings and cuts?

Not yet! Everyone likes their engraving and cuts a little different. I look for a dark engrave that is not burned to heavy and a cut where the charring is minimal.

I'm considering this laser for my shop. My question concerns acrylics. Specifically if I take a piece of white acrylic, paint it black with several coats of something like Rustoleum 2X flat black and then can I engrave lettering on it? Also, could I cut out simple geometric shapes? I'm trying to reproduce the instrument panel from the cockpit of a fighter like an F-15.
@MoonpieCreations2 ай бұрын
@@astrophysicistguy i’m not sure about painting the white acrylic. In theory you can do. If I had some white acrylic I would give it a try lol sounds like an interesting experiment. As for the shapes if you can bring it in with an SVG or PNG file you can.

Total newbie here... Can you explain the difference between the three wattages of lasers, and the applications of each? Have you worked with leather? Thank you so much for this video. @MoonpieCreations4 ай бұрын
The different watts you need depend on thickness of the material you want to burn or cut. I would say most of us would not need more than a 20w laser. This is just my opinion. Strength also impacts speed also.

Have there been any improvements to the accuracy over the past since you did the video?. With all due respect, the medallion alignment looked off at the 9:23 minute make to me, especially compared to your placement which looked spot on.

The accuracy is pretty good. When videoing you sometimes have to reshoot and in this case I failed to get the original on videoed. But if you do have issues with the camera alignment there is the camera alignment tool in Creative Space. It works well.

I wish they showed you the power/speed settings they use with their supplied menu of materials so I could learn more about them.

Hey Richard, So to find out the settings you can do a test grid on different materials. The link to the ones I made in this video are in the description. If you don't want to do that they have material settings for all their machines here www.xtool.com/pages/material-settings.

Hey Ashley, It really depends on what your plans for use are. The S1 if great for taking with me on events. It also does well with curved surfaces. The D1 is a great stay put machine for me.
