Those left over logs are great for making traditional Cherokee arrows. You only get one or two per log,but that one that is from the center is just perfect.

@@Stuntman175 I was just figuring with time and patience u can get at least 3 to 4 out of logs that size with the idea being obviously the center is the hardest and straightest but with time and effort I'm sure u can split it into multiple arrows from 1 log. May not be as strong but I'd rather have a quiver of arrows than like 6 arrows out of 4 days of work. Even if there is a chance the arrow will break off you can still follow the blood trail to the kill

@@abrahamwashington8579 those logs were quite short, so it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility of only making 1 or 2 arrows per log. Maybe with a full tree, it would be easier to make more from a single log.

In Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where I lived as a child, you could find huge patches of White Birch everywhere. You couldn't make whiskey from it, because WHITE Birch bark cooks down to a wonderful pitch glue. The Neanderthals and early humans used that to set arrow heads into shafts. Hard as cement.

If they were smart they would collect the sap (birch water) same as maple sap is collected for syrup. Then ferment and distill that. If you tap at the right time, your tree could produce 5 litres in one day. The sap is just like water in its consistency and you can drink it straight from the tree. It tastes very much like water with a hint of woody sweetness.

@@fishncapt26 Well, I'm a Maine lad so Black Birch is really rare up here. I've only ever found it in a few places on the state's southwest area, like Brownfield. Oak is a common tree tannin type we can use for example though. Take acorns, you normally wouldn't be able to eat them because of the tannins, but boiling them before you mill them into flour breaks down and removes the tannins, and you make delicious nutritional acorn flour for all your cooking with flours purposes. Acorn pancakes for example. I'm guess the process with the Birch tannins goes the same way, the heat and water cause them to react and breakdown for safe consumption. Pine is another one, the pine needles contain harsh acids, but boiling them breaks it down and makes a tea that is incredibly high in vitamin C, which is basically just a citrus acid anyways. Most commercial vitamin C and citric acid for food and drink flavor for example is produced by ceiling mold aspergillus in large vats like they use to make cottage cheese.

I always thought this too. Limited research appears to show it's an old wives tale. Of course, distilling any byproduct of anaerobic yeast fermentation yields methanol which will accumulate in high concentration on the head of distilling. Methanol was chiefly created back in the day by destructive distillation of wood, which is a completely different process of just heating the shit out of the wood anaerobically until it decomposes. I may be 100% wrong tho.

Because of weird loopholes in the law. The police have to actually catch them in the act of making or selling it, showing it on tv isn't enough to arrest them.

I'm not an expert but couldn't it turn into wood alcohol?
@DrGears-sn4gj
@DrGears-sn4gj 2 жыл бұрын
It can but I mean every kind of alcohol can turn into methanol if you don't make it properly. Also depends on the tree, birch and cherry you can use but stuff like oak or pine will probably be basically poison.
