Mike and Jerry have decided to use figs as the base of the moonshine in the multi-jar rig they have constructed, designed to create the highest proof moonshine. But with so many jars, the risk of a pressure explosion is increased putting their still and run in jeopardy.

Making liquor from figs. That reminds me of a story Eric Idle told about some fig liquor called Boukha, which he said was 120 proof. He brought it back to England from Tunisia after filming Life of Brian. He invited the cast of Star Wars to his house and served them Boukha. And the next morning, the cast had to go back on location to film the Ice Planet Hoth scenes. They were still drunk from the Boukha they drank at Eric Idle’s house the night before. 😄😄😄

@@Make-Asylums-Great-Again I bet it's a small fraction of a PSI. If each jar has 1 inch of liquid (probably a large over estimation), and they have 30 jars, that's only 30 inches of head pressure. That's just about 1 PSI. The reason the cap was pushing off is because it has such a massive surface area. 14 inches in diameter is 154 square inches. At 1 psi of pressure that's 154 pounds of force.

A vast majority of the show takes place in NC, Tennessee and sometimes Louisiana all of which have laws strictly prohibiting distilled spirits for personal consumption or otherwise. Why do you think they do it out in the woods instead of just their backyard or anywhere else? Cause they don't wanna be seen. Cause it's illegal. If the cops pulled up on them w the still AND the precursor materials or the finished product they would be arrested and charged no questions asked

If you google the show the local law enforcement has said no illigal practices take place on the show. More then likley they are not brewing liqure. Also as a side note do you think a criminal who takes all precautions to hide illigal activities and avoid all interactions with law enforcement would document and publish their crimes. Just think about that one for a second dude.

What if they were to put a pressure blow off valve in the system before all of the gun baskets. And then run that through a separate condenser so it can be safely disposed of. That way they don’t have to risk high pressure and they don’t have to shut the still down whenever there’s too much pressure.

That's a good idea. Then you wouldn't loose any steam (moonshine) and you wouldn't loose any time filling sandbags and rigging up straps. However they wouldn't have any problems with pressure anyway if they didn't go overboard with the jars. Four or five would be plenty of flavor with no pressure problems.

I also doubt that it tastes that much like figs unless they cut it afterwords (which is fine and correct) Gin baskets work with juniper berries because they are insanely strong and concentrated flavor, figs are not I doubt the gin baskets hardly added anything and were a massive pain and extremely dangerous. Waste of time and money but it looks cool and it’s on tv so looking cool pays the bills

I've often wondered just how much flavour is carried over from the alcohol vs the water vapour? I mean.....there's constituents that can be carried over by one or the other, so why wouldn't a distiller do a run with high ABV spirit to capture the alcohol miscible substances, and then do a purely water run through another batch to use as "proofing down" water?

Centil ethanol content is too high. If you drink it you get poisoned basically. Your body metabolizes the (too much) ethanol and it turns into a chemical that attacks your optic nerve. You can lose your sight.

Centil because methanol boils off first before the ethanol which is what gets you drunk. The methanol is toxic to humans, and is what causes hangovers I believe, it can cause terrible hangovers in moderate doses, or blindness or death in high doses.
