I remember there was a time in the 80s and maybe the early 90s when they did a lot of movies in Michigan. (I'm a long time resident.) The specific ones I remember shooting here were _The Carrier_ (they practically shut down downtown Manchester to shoot that movie) and I believe one of the Scream movies (I remember them shutting down a street in Ann Arbor to shoot some exterior scenes at a house and I guess they shot inside, as well). There's another movie I can't for the life of me remember what the title was (it very well _could_ have been one of the early Scream movies), but it had tons of shots with landmarks (like a water tower) that many locals would recognize. ANYWAY, I _think_ there was some deal with the state government that made it cost effective to shoot here. Just throwing that out for anyone who's interested. :)

Is this a great movie no, is it a fun movie full of heart and soul Yes. It's cheap and the writing is not the best but this isn't some cheap knock-off or something that was thrown together in a hurry. They even did the one difficult thing and had no sounds in vacuum. I really enjoyed this for what it was.

In this history of space-faring science fiction flicks, Moontrap remains one of the few to adhere to the scientific accuracy of keeping the outer-space sequences silent, as sound doesn't travel in a vacuum. In many ways, this made the encounters with the robots on the moon, all the more scary.

Really? I thought Bruce quit because he got mad so many people were torrenting the series as it came out. That's what I read in an article. He was mad that people were DL'ing it for free and in his eyes people didn't give a shit about the hard work people put into making it. But later other people mentioned that it's not that people didn't give a shit about the hard work of the production team, it was that the show came on a cable channel, Showtime I think, and so people who don't have cable, or don't have the Showtime channel available in their particular cable/satellite carrier, or even if they did have cable just weren't understandably going to order the one channel JUST for this one show... You know, your right, it was the ratings. I remember now. Everything I mentioned that was in the article was pointing out why the show was getting bad ratings even though it was incredibly popular. And Bruce Campbell did get mad. I think I read that he was completely walking away from the character because of everyone uploading the series for free on the internet. TBH this left a sour taste in my mouth in regards to Bruce C. I don't think the idea of freely uploading the series was as big as a "fuck your hard work" as BC thinks it was. Sure they might see it for free as it came out, but in the long run you have greater exposure this way. Not to mention that fans newly created this way and old fans alike would have eventually bought the series in a collectors pack. People who might have seen the series free would almost definitely continued to ingest future content wether it was the Evil Dead series or another project BC was working on. It the really liked Ash vs The Evil Dead then they would probably buy the series on Blu-ray to get the best picture, not the compressed crap you see online, they might get it for the extras that come on the Blu-ray such as director's or BC's commentary, there's some that would buy the entire series in a set specifically because they like having a physical copy in their possession. I mean I think we've almost all been in a situation where we were exposed to something for free in the internet but then liked it so much that later in life we ended up buying merchandise from that IP (games, models, cards, books, figurines, DVD's, etc.), and had we not been exposed to it for free we probably wouldn't have gotten to emotionally invested in the IP and as a result later we wouldn't have gotten financially invested in the IP. Plus not that I take it for face value as I haven't seen the actual research but, supposedly there was a study (by the Swedish I think, maybe French) that was done that resulted in that as a matter of fact, NO, pirated merchandise does NOT result in the millions of dollars once preached about. AND, as a matter of fact the study concluded that pirated merchandise actually ADDS profits to the IP holders/producers because of greater exposure. Anyways, too bad Bruce left pissed. The Ash vs Evil Dead series was phenomenal. But I don't know. If I worked hard on something only to have people take it for free would dishearten me pretty bad. But I also do see the logic of the study's supposed results of greater exposure, and people's need/want to have the best possible version including a real physical version of the thing in their possession at a fee would drive profits.

Wherever the music came from that you used, it _dramatically_ improved the feel and presentation of what was happening on the screen. :) Sometimes I wonder about the people who make these decisions. ;)

Ah, the movie that as a kid confused me because, "I thought the guy who was Chekov on Star Trek really was Russian!"

@GoodBadFlicks..... FUN FACT: This movie got a semi-remake back in 1999 in the form of the movie "Virus", starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Sutherland. and that movie shows how an electrical alien lifeforce from outer space that somehow invades a Russian research vessel on the ocean, that later begins building murderous robots using spare parts from human bodies.

Virus was based on the comic of the same name. It was originally written as a script before Moontrap so really, its just a coincidence.

@@GoodBadFlicks the comic part I didn't know about, same for the script being written before "Moontrap" got released.

4:00 - *mom walks into the house and hears them both grunting. (Doesn't see them doing push ups, and afraid to walk around the corner.) Dad: Come on son keep pushing, harder. Son: I can't dad, it hurts. I don't think I can do it with you anymore. Mom: *Faints* [Scene] Now that would be a better movie!

I have always loved this movie. I remember seeing this on VHS only a few weeks after it came out. Please do the sequel. It is odd, terrible effects, and has nothing to do with the original movie. The "sequel" looks more like a reboot.
