Thanks Bud, just working on a valve cover oil leak, and noticed two of my rocker arms just didn't seem very centered on the valve spring nub. So thinking I should fix it. Your video was very helpful, thank you sir! BTW it's a '68 340. Interesting enough, the torque for '68- '69 318-340 rocker shaft bolts is stated as 210 inch pounds (in my well worn Chilton book). Where as the 273 is 30 foot lbs, & the 383-440 is 25 foot lbs. Kind of goofy, but I'm going with it, ha. The torque sequence was not shown in the book, and that was one thing I was concerned about. I think I should disassemble the opposite way, from the outside in. Correct?

Thanks for the vid! Very easy explanation. Also, has someone ever told you that you kinda look like Jacob from LOST? (Mark Pellegrino?)

Did u mention it or did I miss it what's the notch for
@slantfish65sd

Hey Thomas, first of all, thank you for watching my video. I do appreciate it greatly, but the rocker shafts have to be bolted on to the cylinder heads in this order the left side cylinder head and it's rockershaft has to be installed with the notch on the front. That notch will point towards the center line of the engine. The crankshaft the right side or passenger side head. It's rocker shaft has to be installed with it's notch at the rear pointing towards the center line of the engine. So go over that one more time then notch on the left cylinder head. The driver side cylinder head will point will be at the front and will point towards the center line of the engine. The passenger side will be notch in the rocker shaft will be at the back and we'll point towards the center line of the engine. When you do that you get correct oil flow for the rocker shafts and the rocker arms and push rod tips and the valve tips and valve stems. If you don't do that correctly, you could have some oiling problems now. Something else to pay attention to? Is that your left bank is always the left bank? It is always the driver side. The right bank is always the right bank. It is always the passenger side. I don't care if you're standing in front of it. You're standing beside it behind it. You're laying underneath it. It doesn't matter. The left side is always the left side. The right side is always the right side. Please do not get confused by cameras that can change lenses and then flip the image around okay so that's something to be aware of. So thank you very much and if there's anything else I can help you with let me know

Do they make adjustable rockers in a kit or something?
@slantfish65sd
@slantfish65sd 7 ай бұрын
No they do not make any sort of adjustable valves for these engines. Are you having some sort of trouble or issue with your rocker arms or rocker shaft or push rods?

@@slantfish65sd I want to shave the heads to add more compression. I want to zero deck it. I’m looking for adjustable rockers.

If you're looking to gain more compression, there are a couple of things you can do to get closer to zero deck One of the things you can do is look for a piston that has a higher compression height that is the distance from the center line of the wrist pin to the very top of the piston. I don't recall the part numbers but I know silvo light Pistons they make pistons that are a higher compression height. There is also two or three other companies that make pistons like that. You can change out the pistons that will get you much closer. Maybe even all the way to a zero deck height but I would not go through the trouble of milling the block or milling the heads down a lot to get the compression ratio higher. If you do, you could face a lot of problems getting the intake to seal to the cylinder head and to the block. Then you may have to mail the intake and or the intake ceiling services of the heads. Now you can mail the heads down about 60,000 of an inch. I did that on my 360 and I also used a much thinner head gasket too that got my compression up some. However, if you got the money, I would go with a taller piston higher compression height instead of milling. Either way, you're probably going to be about the same money, but for me the toddler pistons are the way to go. And as far as adjustable rocker arms, my apologies earlier I wasn't paying attention and I thought you wrote adjustable valves adjustable rock arms. They do make some look at crane cams. They used to sell some. I'm not sure if they still do or not. There's also just a rock crimes that were put out by the factory on the 64 through 67 273 V8 that you're going to need to get the rock arms and the rocker shafts. They are different. They are just as well You may also want to look at Mancini racing also check out summit Racing and possibly jeggs for the adjustable rocker arms

@@slantfish65sd I appreciate the advice. I just like the simplicity of being able to adjust rockers. Down the road when I put a solid flat tappet cam in I want to be able to adjust my rockers… someone told me I can put 273 rocker shafts on any LA? Any experience with that?
