In my name I think you can understand. From a 2800lb bracket car winning races and championships, to the most durable combination i have ever raced. My 471 in a 2800lb a body won. And won often. 500+ runs and it put in work until I decided to change racing genres. That engine is still running. Koffel ported and built B1 originals.

We probably won’t see any higher development of the wedge head design past the Predator heads. Anything like that already usually requires a Hemi block, so going to one of the Hemi type heads is usually the next step in the progression. It would be interesting to see what a set of Stage V Millennium Hemi heads could be made to flow in comparison to a set of equally worked Predator heads.

Finally another mopar head. Love it. My neighbors I race with have 2 sets of these and the B1 MC heads. They're all bad ass for sure. The Brodix makes the best original inline valve configuration wedge mopar heads no doubt with the B1 PSO and MC. The next step after the B1 PSO for a "wedge" design is either the B1 TS or Indy Predator but they're a canted valve design.

These brodix heads look great. For a Mopar guy wanting a more budget-minded big block with 600 street-able HP, the Trick Flow 240 and 270 heads are hard to beat though. These Brodix B1s are in a different class though!
@ToddWrightthedrummer10 ай бұрын
TFS 270 has a big valve seat so it might take a bigger intake with a smaller exh valve. If the casting allows for a bigger throat and bowls and some additional porting, it would make a great head for up to 800 hp if used with a 4.500" bore. Maybe 900 hp or more with all the tricks. I'm done building cars, but I'm still intrigued by ancient tech pushrod engines. BTW, I think Dave Koffel did a fantastic job developing this head, but it's been around since 1992. The B1 PSO has always fascinated me, but I have only seen hi-def pics of them fully worked by Tom Hemphill(RIP). I want to see a 1350 hp inline wedge engine NA on gasoline, but no one is going to put up the cash to attempt to develop such a piece. That new Indy block in high quality cast iron with the BBC bore space should provide an adequate foundation, but a W8 style head for a BBM is simply never going to be cast, and I suppose a billet head with water jackets could be done by Visner or Foltz, but no one is going to put up $200k for a BBM.

Some 25 years ago because building a pump gas engine, I thought the port was too big. I asked Koffel for their opinion to raise the floor some, and they said it would be ok, but they told that it's very important to retain the odd shape. Said that it's for wet flow properties. I didn't do it after all, but the heads and the engine still worked great. I have flow sheets of maybe ten sets of B1's, and your numbers are pretty decent. There are better heads out there, I have FBS heads and they flow 440 with the same size intake valve and much smaller port area.

In the inline valve B1 world, the pecking order is..... 1. B1 PSO 2. B1 MC 3. B1 Original By the looks of the valve size and flow numbers, looks like you have the B1 Original, since the MC and PSO versions typically use a bigger intake valve, along with a number other improvements and move far more air, typically between 450 and 480 cfm. The B1 TS is the top of the line for the B1 series, but is a different configuration altogether. Unfortunate, these are all a little long in the tooth and in the case of the B1 PSO it can't even be purchased until Brodix has orders for a minimum of 10 heads, if I remember correctly. As for anything even remotely current, the only real upgrade for 440 engines is the Predator head.
@claymahaney657410 ай бұрын
The pso and the mc heads were built for big bores. The original can be used with factory block bore sizes. That head will make 1000 hp anyway.

I’ve been running B-1 original heads on my Super Gas racers since 1997. First a 499, then 3 , 511’s. I was told that I would need offset bushed lifter bores to “Straighten out” the intake pushrods, which are tilted to get around the intake port. I never did that. I use T&D rockers with NO issues. I still run a 511, that I built in 2004, using a 400 block, with 440 mains and steel caps. Pistons are 650 gram, flat top Venolia’s, and Eagle BBC + .400 H Beam rods (6.535”). Engine goes over finish line at 7350 rpm. Made 890 hp, when fresh.
