Steve, you should try painting the interior of the block with Red Glyptol paint. I managed a electric motor repair shop for 33 years. It's sold at Graingers and other motor repair shop suppliers. It's used to coat electric motor windings. It's solvent and chemical proof from most industrial products. We used it in our race engines back in the 70s. That stuff never comes off if the block is cleaned and prepared properly. Almost like powder coating the inside. I would also paint my battery trays after sand blasting them and put the final color coat on top. It seals up any microscopic grit you might miss.

“Gallery: I kept hearing the word “Galley”, and I knew that was wrong from my trade school days, but the guys that were using it were more experienced engine guys than me, so instead of taking issue with it, I just learned from them what I needed to. But, thank you for making that distinction.

I built a 440 rv engine for a kid when I took auto machining and rebuilding in high school it had forged rods and crank stock I put keith black flat tops in it with a road runner cam and 906 heads that I ported and gasket matched I had to drill some weight off the bottom of the pistons to get it in balance and I polished the beams and ran the rods through the shot peener for a week before I resized them we put it in a ram charger mud truck it made 425hp and 482ftlbs at the wheels on Kammer&Kammers chassis dyno on turbo blue with a holley intake and 950cfm carb with 17/8" hooker comp headers we absolutely beat on that engine every time we took that truck to an event he eventually hurt it with a 200 shot and had it burning oil but it still never gave up the ghost he ended up rolling it down devils back bone at haspin acres in Indiana and sold it to some guy before we left that weekend we continued to tear up on it all night and the next day after he rolled it that was one tough engine

@captainsergeant2 жыл бұрын
When I rebuilt the 4.0 in my XJ I cleaned the hell out of the block and head and used a high temp primer before putting down the single stage high temp color coat (gloss black). Two years on and it still looks like new. In the past, when I used single stage engine paints without a primer coat I would get a year or so out of them before the paint would discolor or peel up. In the future I will take your advice and hit it with a clear coat as well.

Hey, a U-tube thingy that i might actually subscribe to. Thanks for clearing up the galley misuse. A galley is a type of ship that is propelled mainly by oars. It is also the food preparation (kitchen) on a ship. In the Army you get assigned to KP duty, in the Navy you get assigned to galley duty. Also describe the term align bore vs line bore. On cleaning the bore after honing, after you nave cleaned as much as possible with soap & water try this: Take a clean white shop towel, wet it down liberally with ATF and then wipe the bores with that. You might find that the detergent wasn't as good a cleaner as thought. On WD-40: the WD stands for water displacement. It is not a good rust preventive. Makes a decent cutting fluid for aluminum though. Good video, lots of good tips.

I have been a fan of yours since you and your friend built that 400 low block (that for the time made great power) for Engine Masters they featured your engine build in their magazine. I still have the article! I built a 400 from your inspiration I started with with 4.375x 4.20 and Indy 440 heads, roller, and a 4 stage dry sump set up that is shaft driven off the original pump shaft. I keep changing and building and STILL have not heard it run! My latest is a custom button flywheel (I copied a Tilton NASCAR one) with a triple 7.25 Tilton clutch and RO7 reverse mount bell housing.Have been building Jesel type rockers and stands too. See what you started way out here in the Rocky Mountains. I looked for part 2 but its not there/ Please, give some more inspiration, PLEASE?
