Mopar City

This is my first time back here in nearly 40 years. Larry was one the guys who were around Northwest Illinois starting in the 1960s until now. Hemi Dart to a drag pack Challenger, he’s owned a little of everything. One of the last cars that he built for himself, I believe, was the 1983 Chrysler Imperial. I wish that I had more footage of it in this video. He was busy but took time to show me around. There are still a couple of cars that are his keepers, but I’ll have to see them next time.

I was just there a couple of weeks ago, this video barely scratches the surface on the shear number of parts Larry has. It’s a sensory overload thing when you see all the buildings.

Yeah I agree. I was new to the video making business and left this one a little short. Plus there were 2 customer cars that I had hoped to add but Larry said that wasn't a good idea.

Awesome place! I love Larry lol he's the best. He and mostly his son Michael (who's great also)revived my Duster a few years back. He was with Larry Griffith and his hemi Dart .Larry could have his own show, never get tired of talking with that guy.

I wish that I had spent more time asking Larry about his Imperial. There were actually 2 more cars in the original video that I had to cut at his request because they were customer's cars. One was a survivor car. A red, 70 Hemi Challenger, 4 speed with a factory sunroof. Supposedly 1 of 5 built. The other was a Mr. Norm's 71 Demon clone. It was a clone of a car that Chrysler had planned to be used in the C stock class. It had a 440 with a cross ram intake. Larry saw the paper work for it back in the day, but Chrysler pulled the plug before it ever happened. Larry also has 2 buildings with just his keeper cars. I'd like to take a look in there sometime.

What town are you from? I grew up in Freeport. Larry is my Grandfather’s cousin. Of course I’ve been out of that area since 2005 and now I have a ‘72 Roadrunner. I’d kill to be able to run over there whenever I need something.

Terrific video! I got to meet Larry Griffith in ‘18 at MCaCN where the former Chrysler engineer had unveiled his restored 68 SS/Hurst Dart. I’ve heard of Larry Potnick as well and would make fun trip to check out MoPar City.

Larry bought someone out, who also collected parts, about 15 years ago. He spent a year getting everything back to his place. It was around an 850 mile trip one way.

Kool vid. However... Would you at least try to come to a full stop at the stop signs, and actually LOOK for traffic? I'm still having PTSD episodes from cars/tractors/semis blowing throught the stops. The brakes on my old Harley/BMW/Kaw were never that great to begin with. My '56 Belevedere is getting a disc brake upgrade as a result as the drum brakes, well, make drumming noises during an enthusiastic (hopeful) stop.

@@Chuck_House_of_Mopar If you are towing two 1000 galon tanks of anyhydrous with a YUUUGE John Deere tractor driven by a15 year old kid, a stop sign means "go up two gears without slowing." I always like the drivers who THINK they are looking at you, but their field of focus is actually only at 15 feet. When my daughter (middle aged) talks while driving, she is too distracted to see much of any 18 wheeler. "Gee daddy, I didn't see him." I force myself to actually look for other types of vehicles- motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs- just as I would while being on my bikes. Of course, I'm really old now and this is for self preservation. Sorry for the driving philosophy.. I worked too many fatalities when I was a very young cop.
