I just love Fathers or Grandfathers being real fathers. YOU are making a man out of him. Awesome. And Awesome info. I believe, could be wrong, but, MP performance "phonebook size" quotes up to 60 on cruise. I'll have to dig mine out of the attic to see again. 30 years ago.

1st Lean burn 1978 my New Yorker had it I converted to Mopar electronic ignition with a vacuum advance dizzy an did the wiring before the high performance Mopar mag article. On a 400 that car was a hell of a sweet ride! I still have the engine for aonther project. The FBO plate cool but I'm old can't put the welder down!... The vacuum cans come in different degrees just double the number on the arm and you do have some adjustment in the can most of the time. Keep up the great work teaching the world that timing is everything!😎

Excellent video, John! You’ve eliminated the voodoo muster of the Mopar distributor. Thanks for the shout out. Thanks for the help and support on getting mine tuned in! Especially on that funky bronco. I think that pertronix distributor came with 22 degrees of advance!

Hello, John and Jacob, Thank you for your videos. They make sooo much sense! FYI, I just talked to Dana Briggs and ordered the FBO plate. She spent a lot of time with me; very pleasant. Best wishes and Happy Thanksgiving 2023! 🙂🙏🇺🇸

Great video John! That plate seems like a game changer honestly. Welding up the holes, and trying to accurately drill them evenly isn't that easy.
@talljohnsfunshop27222 жыл бұрын
Jason that plate is sweet and your right the old fashioned way of getting it done won't allow another time until you do it again but the plate mean no trickery. That means a stock poly is set and now your stroked ported headerd poly is just a adjustment. Easy always makes me happy, thanks for watching

Trying to figure out how to re-curve a lightly cammed 318 that has the 360 heads on it. The engine came out of an x police ghost car vehicle and we rebuilt the whole engine.@@talljohnsfunshop2722

Interesting. I was under the impression the lower initial aided in quick startups. I guess I don’t understand why firing off earlier when that piston is moving so slow doesn’t send the piston backdown backwards
@talljohnsfunshop2722 Жыл бұрын
Trying to send the piston backwards is just past the limit of initial timing. That is typically around 19 or 20 depending on your engine. So most engines end up around 18. It could be lower then that like 17 or 16, because every engine combo is different. But that's our job as a tuner is to find that limit.

So it seems like that cylinder that was missing is not missing anymore? Maybe I missed that video John. :) That truck is fantastic - my Dad had a 76 Ramcharger with big block in it. And yes it had an 8 track player - Beatles Revolver and CCR Chronicle were usually in it.
@talljohnsfunshop27222 жыл бұрын
Nice notice. The valve is fixed vid comes out soon. Your dad had good taste in 8 tracks by the way.

I've been hesitant to mess with my d150 timing as it starts super fast at 10* advance and its my daily. I know it has more in it but ill worry about that once I put a new timing set on it. My 79 camaro I limited the mech advance with a set screw and bumped the timing up to around 12* and limited the vacuum advance by welding the slot up on it. Also put lighter springs in it. (I love the ease of the HEI setup) starts up way better and has more oomf in general but now I see it fighting compression sometimes when cranking. Just a little old 305 with a holley 4160 and weiand intake. I've heard its really dependent on vehicle weight for how quick the advance comes in on a close to stock car? Maybe in that video you can give detail on how to tell if it needs quicker or slower advance. Still really new to this.
@talljohnsfunshop27222 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris I love that your working on it even if your hesitant what you did is way more then most. The HEI setup is sweet for sure. The next timing vid me and jacob are going to discuss the sring thing. As far as weight of the vehicle I haven't heard that but where I max it out at with spring tuning is no later than max torque so if your cam and engine combo is 2200 that when I want it all in or 2500 that's all in and no later. I make sure mine is all in at Cruz speed what ever rpm at about 45 mph more to come it the future. Thanks for watching

Hey John and Jacob. I've got a stock slant 6 in my '65 Dart. Do you any suggestions for how much advance to dial into a slant distributor?
@talljohnsfunshop2722 Жыл бұрын
Hey BlindBat I set my slant 225 @initial 20 degrees the centrifugal is 32 and vacuum is 48 degrees. Yours might be close to that but I'm shooting in the dark.
