The only thing I dislike about my Moras: They make me question my knife enthusiasm (and sometimes my sanity) every time I use them! That's because they make it really hard to justify all those expensive knives that we all love. I carry mine as a neck knife with the paracord going as a loop around the handle - takes care of the sheath retention problem that occurs over time.

I also have more expensive knives that never get used because I always use the moras. I have yet to wear out any of them and I’ve abused them for years! I bought two of the bahco wrecking knives and I’ve only used one for house work and camping because they’re so durable and cheap!

Yes I blame mora for making sell off 75% of my fixed blade collection because they never see action. I could be happy with having an only Mora collection and 1 safe queen fixed blade like Bark river

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. BUT still think you can't have too many knives and variety is the spice of life so they say so all we are doing is keeping things spicy . Yes I know ,it is not the best excuse for being a knife fanatic but it was not bad for "spur of the moment "🤣

If you're on a budget, or even if you're not, Mora's are hard to beat as long as you like a scandi grind knife. I don't have any of the lower cost ones like the companion, but I have the Kansbol, the Black, and the Garberg. I like the Black enough I bought a second one if that tells you anything about my opinion on is it worth the extra money. The handle is so damn comfortable on it, at least for my hand anyways. One rides non-stop in my pack as a backup, or as a secondary for when I carry a larger chopper/survival knife. I have knives that cost me $300, but they don't do anything the Mora's can't do, other than look pretty and hold their edge longer due to the steel on them.

I've got one of the cheaper Mora's (forget which model) and I was always nervous of the weak sheath retention. I read that a 'quick-fix' is to use a woman's elasticated hair band doubled over to keep it secure in the sheath. And it works!

You know Paul, twelve years of marriage has taught me that women’s items have tons of practical applications that women never use them for; tights for conformable dust filters, hair bands for retaining knives, the list goes on. And of course, don’t forget suspenders for looking foxy at the weekend…er…no, wait I mean…shit!

Mora knives are out standing. I have many knives in my collection but. The Mora is the. One that gets t he most field time. I Have mine with an Orange handle knife and a zebra (Black on white striped case and have never lost it. I have also bought a half dozen each time I go hunting in Africa or Europe and give my guide, the Camp help each one when I first get in camp and the service I get is nothing short of First class. Which reminds me, I need to order some more Moras for my fall hunting. Great knife and well worth the $… GJ/ Dallas

This is stainless steel and 2.5mm thick. The popular standard carbon steel companion is 2 mm thick. The companion HD carbon steel is 3.2 mm thick with a thicker handle and same sheath. Add a parcord loop (or leather or a caribener) to your belt then attach to the belt clip as a dangler if required. Black hair band under the clip as a fail safe retention clasp.

Thing is.. companion is NOT a scandi .. it has a micro bevel , and if you had bothered to look closely you can see it ... its about 0.8 mm . The companions cutting edge has to be ground down to the angle of the scandi bevel to get rid of that micro bevel.

For processing livestock, from gutting to skinning and even boning out an entire carcass, nothing works better for me the the plain old boring Mora Companion.I'll start out with several different cooler, pricier knives I like, and want to work for me. But, 5 mins in ,the Mora is the only thing in my hand.
@Imightberiding
@Imightberiding 3 жыл бұрын
A Scandi grind for skinning, boning or general butchering? Seriously? If it's a nostalgic feeling you're after or the low cost of a Mora, you can get better results with an inexpensive Old Hickory for processing meat than any Scandi ground knife. To each their own but there is a reason different types, grinds, sizes, shapes, thickness & geometry of knife blades exist. Scandi grinds are great outdoor tools but fail miserably at skinning a fish or skinning & butchering large game as well as any other food prep. It splits & breaks apart the food & meat you are trying to slice cleanly.
@daveyboy6985
@daveyboy6985 Жыл бұрын
A thin scandi like the companion, should be ok for skinning, yes it won't be as good as a thin flat ground normal blade , but it definitely better than the thicker scandi models. The main thing is the mora's are 1 cheap 2 they are easy to sharpen. Yes they aren't perfect for skinning or foodprep, but they are a good allrounder. (This is just the companion, I'm referring about).

You must be a CDN. The reference to "I think it might be less than $19 for you guys in the US." And your practical common sense on the use of a hatchet or axe & smaller knife. Those crazy Americans just love big knives & pounding on them with sticks & logs. I'm an older fellow of a certain age & over a lifetime of outdoor adventures, I can only recall beating on the back of a knife to split some kindling once or twice. *Edit: An extra $10 for the Bushcraft Black? They are at least 3 times the price of a Companion in Canada.

2022 with shipping $25.00 US. Weight with sheath is equivalent to holding 20 US quarters in your hand,for comparison, if you wanna get a feel for how much 4oz (113gr) is. That's for 4inch of useable blade length. And it's Scandalously good blade steel, compared to any $25 stainless blade...say like a Frost brand from china or pakistan (the only blades you can buy in this $ range). 12c27 is arguably as good as aeb-l (13c26). It's boring tho. Not a sexy design.
