the Eldris sheath can be used for lengthening the handle. Just insert the knife handle into it!

The Garberg looks great in that sheath. Great job on the handle on that Eldris, 4 fingers already better than 3.

Love what you did with the eldris. I bought my mom an eldris as a mother's day gift and my step dad a bushcraft black for father's day. I have a companion HD and Garberg Stainless. I think Morakniv is a pretty ethical company which is why I am happy to support them. I'd love to modify the handle on my companion HD. I, like you, have sold most of my other knives. I was getting anxiety trying to decide which knives to take out with me. I sold my condor final frontier, ontario blackbird SK5, ESEE 6 and ESEE PR4. I kept my ESEE 4HM. I too found the 14c28n in the Garberg to sharpen well just like the 1095. It's a very smooth steel on the stones. That sheath you have for the Garberg looks awesome but I think the factory leather one is one of the best stock sheaths I've received with a knife.

It's been a long time since I made this ..Thanks ! I have another channel so this was one I was going to start knife stuff on but never started . Anyways I now have changed my taste a bit in knives . My main blades right now are the Tops Brakimo and Becker BK18 . Personally the Brakimo is a bit thick BUT the edge is amazing its a true survival bushcraft knife. The Becker BK18 I just put a convex edge on today and WOW it's awesome I love the knife. I also have made a ton of knives and sold them and found that ENZO/Brisa makes some of the best bushcraft blades. I have a Skinner Brisa and Bobtail that I put my own handles on and boy they are wicked. A new knife I just got is the CUDEMAN Sanabria 2 . It's a little neck knife or belt with a shape like the White River fire craft knives but for poor folks LOL. Cudeman and Joker knives are lowcoat yet very well made I have my eye on the Joker Ember. You should of kept your Ontario sk5 LOL I sold mine and ended up buying it again I love mine now. I love knives and making them hobby crafting is good for stress. Thanks for the comment man.

@@airiksknifereviews9548 @Airik Henderson I love the Moras for what they are. I too am a fan of Enzo. I love the trapper 95. I also like the Cudeman MT5. I have considered grabbing a TOPS puuko. I don't like the aesthetics of the BOB knife but haven't really used one. I'm not familiar with the model you mentioned. I love the Becker Bk16, haven't tried an 18. I feel like another 1095 (I know the beckers are 1095cv) flat grind might be too much like my 4HM to make a difference. I'd be back in the same spot I was before with struggling to decide what knives to take. I have seriously been considering picking up a Joker Nordic and that might be my next knife. As far as my blackbird, dude I wanted to love it. I do love the design. Paul Scheiter did a great job with that design. My copy of the knife was poorly executed by ontario. Uneven grind, loose handle scales. It was a total disappointment. I also wish they stuck with the green/gray micarta scales. Not a G10 guy. Anyway, the work you did with these Moras was cool. Thanks for sharing. ✌️

Doing the handle mod like this adds about a quarter inch in length . The "extra" length comes from the ricasso portion having been molded deeper in the poly handle. Neat idea.

Thanks man ...thats an oldie , I can make some legit stuff now. Matter of fact I save money with using blanks. Casstrom has blanks now for about $60 so if ya find a sheath for $25 that's a killer deal. Personally I can make my own sheaths esp Puukko sheaths but leather right now is to expensive. You should buy a BPS sheath for your BarkRiver ...I bought one for $16 with a dangler and firesteel ,ya can't beat it on Amazon. I think it would fit your CUB perfectly.

Wasn't it difficult to get off the plastic handles?
@airiksknifereviews95486 жыл бұрын
No name The Mora's can be a pain, I used my belt sander after I chipped the handle off. Easy way is to hammer the knife into a stump then take a good chisle or sharp cheapo hatchet and hammer to chisle off that grip. Once you get down to the hard leftover plastic on the tang I used the belt sander. The only way to do it is just jump in and attack that puppy😉 I say get a $5-10 Mora first to get your skill level up. As for the Garberg I've never removed one of those yet but I'm sure it would work the same just take a bit longer. Sorry it took so long to answer back I had no idea I made this video public LOL wasn't sure if I wanted a knife channel yet...😁

how did you get the scandivex?
@airiksknifereviews95486 ай бұрын
For scandi edges, I just use a hard 1×4 board with 600 grits to 2000 grit sandpaper. I only draw the knife never push the edge . Basically, it's like stropping a knife but making sure the main bevel stays as flat as possible. The softness of the paper creates a perfect microvex bevel. Scandi edges are easy, and be careful not to remove tones of steel I use the 600 grit to build a light even bur on both sides. Once you get your motion flowing, just move up in grit. The 1000 to 2000 will remove that bur and polish the edge. Then I use a strop board with very hard grain leather with a black compound , very flat and medium to light touch. I move on to green compound. Black is coarse, so be careful, or you can blunt the edge. I honestly think the white compound is better it's more forgiving.

Stainless holds an edge longer than carbon.
@cypherf0x4 жыл бұрын
That depends heavily on what the particular type of steel and heat treat each has. Side by side the carbon garberg has better edge retention.
@projekctx86464 жыл бұрын
@@cypherf0x Od course, but I'm talking about the general rule. I have stainless garberg and carbon companion hd, same steel and same HT as garberg carbon. SS hold an edge much better them C. This is the reason why carbon is easier to sahrpen than stainless. I think it's worth mentioning that Mr. Thomas Eriksson, the production manager of Morakniv has the same opinion about it. This particular carbon steel Mora uses is very simple and it doesn't contain carbides which define wear resistance.
@airiksknifereviews95483 жыл бұрын
@@projekctx8646 Maybe but their stainless is way soft. My wife's stainless mora needs sharpened weekly the carbon rarely ever just a good strop. The kitchen is where I have seen the most abuse on edges and the stainless just doesn't last. The 14C28N is about the same as their 1095hc bit the 12c27 is way softer. It's all about heat treat imho. I have a Tops Brakimo which holds an edge way better than the Garberg and its 1095hc. They harden the edge I believe to a 58-60 Rockwell . In not sure how hard Moras 1095 is but I know it stays sharper longer than my stainless. Honestly grind geometry is also a major factor . If I convex my edges they hold up way longer to wood working.

I'm not a fan of the Garberg. Undoubtedly it's a solid build, but that lack of a finger guard on a hard use knife is simply irresponsible, IMO. A slip can happen so easily out in the wild with cold hands, sleep deprivation, etc. Not worth the risk.
