Quick tip: Wrap a little cotton wool & petroleum jelly in some tin foil and ranger band it to the sheath. Takes a spark very easily & is fantastic when your tinder is marginal.

Bryan I have the earlier version called the Light My Fire with the pretty red and gray handles and the red sheath. I dearly love it. I tested it against several of my knives for making feather sticks and it won hands down. The built in ferro rod is plenty ample enough to get a good fire going. I use it as a back up and carry a larger one. That knife alone is capable of getting you out of a really tough spot. Thanks for sharing brother.

Curly haired Lindsey of Fleetwood Mac. The band’s name is getting a little harder to remember at times, but I grew up listening to their music. Then, they got back together in the 90’s. My boss, at the time, was like; “what’s the big deal about them getting back together?” He wasn’t a fan. Mora, one of the best values in knives. I used mine yesterday. Great video 👍.

@Ward Travis depends how you measure having "been to the moon" The first man-made object that got there was from the Soviets, though it was an unmanned mission Then again, NASA has been using metric for a long time, as have pretty much all scientists and engineers in the US for anything that requires precision Don't get me wrong, I can see how the imperial system is useful in everyday measurements (namely feet and inches), but for anything that requires precision, or God forbid converting weight/volume, metric is far superior I say this as a Canadian, where we officially use metric, but we're very confused as to what to use Pool temperature? Fahrenheit Room/air temperature? Celcius Ovens? Fahrenheit again Distance? Km Height? Usually feet/inches Weight? Lbs, unless you're ordering from the deli counter, then it's grams Gas and milk? Litres Beer? Pints Anyways, we're thoroughly mixed up between two systems, and admittedly both have their uses, but for anything where you need scientific measurements metric is going to be easier to follow (I should also note that all imperial measurements are now defined by conversion values of their metric counterparts)

Interesting video. Pity the system would not ignite the cedar w/o the direct flame from the fat wood fire. The system did seem to throw some good sparks with all the methods you used. I would have to rate this knife “fair” as it barely passed one of it’s main functions - fire starter.
@SurvivalOnPurpose4 жыл бұрын
I am sure I would have got it if I wasn't so eager to light the fatwood.
@ROE13004 жыл бұрын
Survival On Purpose You and your fat wood, I think you might be addicted ... 😂😂😂 I didn’t think the problem was operator error. Not sure what the issue may have been; you were getting what appeared to be a good shower of sparks, the scrapings and curls were fine. Oh well, one of the mysteries of life.

For the money it will always be the best knife. For day hiking or backpacking throw it in your pack and forget about it it's there when you need it. So you don't need a $300 knife, $200 knife, $100 knife, just a mora knife. Lindsey Buckingham is a great guitar player it's fun to watch him in concert. Bryan, This knife was part of a BattlBox either in March or April if I’m not mistaken. Lindsey Buckingham...dating yourself, Bryan, lol. He and Stevie Nicks were phenomenal in "Landslide", one of my all-time favorite songs. He was a guitar player extraordinaire. I lived not too far from the Nicks family in Phoenix. This is a great knife if you're packing ultralight and your preferred stove is a Solo or Fire Box; fishing in high mountain lakes and gas stoves are too often non-functional or difficult to operate. The knife makes processing small wood as you have adeptly demonstrated very easy to do. I own several Mora's and they are an incredible addition to a bug out bag; for me, mostly as a back up blade to a stronger primary knife, e.g. Gerber Strongarm or Esee 4. They have become my go-to kitchen knives making culinary preparation a breeze. A Companion model is strapped to my Jeep's fire extinguisher for cutting seat belts or clothing (emergency first aid). FYI, Hide & Drink makes quality leather sheaths for Mora knives. Mine ($18 on Amazon) arrived a kind of funky yellowish hide but a few quick swipes of brown Kiwi liquid shoe polish made it a really nice color. Another super review, Bryan!

Wow...!!!! are you going to keep saying that about the metric system? At this time, only three countries in the world-Burma, Liberia, and the US-have not adopted the International System of Units (SI, or metric system) as their official system of weights and measures. Wonder to know why? In the 19th century, as the rest of the world began to accept the metric system, the U.S. Congress proposed that the country transition toward this international system as well. However, at this point in time, the USA industrialists had already stocked their factories with equipment that was based on the U.S. customary units. To prevent a costly overhaul of their equipment, these industrialists used their influence to stop Congress from adopting the metric system throughout the 19thand 20th centuries. Today, the USA still teaches U.S. customary units in its schools, although many scientists and organizations have submitted to the ease of the internationally used metric system. So, who is still stuck in the metric system? Google it, Brian, be my guest!

I wonder if the Companion Spark represents a change in marketing/branding strategy for MoraKniv. I own a knife sold under the Light My Fire brand that's a dead ringer for the Companion Spark. It was a collaboration between Light My Fire (known for their high quality fire steels) and Mora. It has the exact same integrated firesteel and a Mora-branded blade with the all-important flat milled spine. In any case, the Mora Companion Spark is about $10 cheaper than the Light My Fire version. I think it's the same superbly engineered knife, just a far better value. This Mora will always have its detractors because it's not full tang. But as long as you stay away from batonning, it's a capable little survival knife. I've attached an emergency whistle and a button compass to the lanyard on mine; the whole unit just lives in my day pack. I have other, beefier survival knives (including the Shrade SCHF9 based one of *your* early reviews). But for a ridiculous 5 or so ounces, my Mora/Light My Fire ensures that four of the most vital survival tools are always with me whenever I venture into the woods.
