The kansbol is great for farmers, hunters, fishermen...and I think it was made for these people. Unless you're deep into bushcraft, the garberg is overkill. For daily usage on the farm, when hunting, fishing...the kansbol is much more versatile and useful.

Really good and objective comparison between these two knives. Thank you for doing this!

Definitely the best video I've seen, agree with the conclusions made. I think for most people the kansbul or even the companion are definitely adequate for their tasks. I would like a knife that can baton wood if necessary in case I lose my hatchet, and the garberg is the tool I choice for that. It's not too much bigger than the companion either, so fine camp tasks are also do able. I do think it's pricey, but definitely not unjustifiable. One thing I don't like about the garbarg is that the blade isn't sharpened all the way to the handle like the rest of the moras. I suspect they chose to do this because the garberg is so thick that they think people might use it to pry, so they left it thick where the most likely snapping point is. I still wish they didn't, because the crowd buying the garberg probably knows better than to pry with their knife, but again I see why.

I agree with the others that this is a very good comparison and really informative for the average person. I missed one little thing: The Mora knives i saw are not true skandi grinds, they all had a really tiny micro-bevel. That’s a pro because true scandi tends to roll even with light batoning but the Mora’s micro stays true. For example my ColdSteel FinnHawk had issues with edge rolling but the Kansbol not and when I inspected the edges I found that microbevel. After copying that to the FinnHawk then the rolling issues were solved.

One thing puts me off both. I really like the belt clip found on the Companion sheath and others. It is easy to add an additional loop but not to add that clip.

Update: the Kansbol does fit in Companion sheaths. Have also created canvas sheaths for them. So there are many options.

Good informative video, but the garberg is 3.2mm thick i believe

Hello good, a question. When sharpening the Garberg you do it according to the scandi angle or you do it by the microbevel that comes from the factory. Thank you!!

Why go kansbol instead of companion?
@BMXfreak922 жыл бұрын
The spine from the companion is rounded, so you can't hit a firesteel with it. Also it got less heft to it, but for light camping and no batoning the companion ist good.
@buffalorider35792 жыл бұрын
@@BMXfreak92 I filed a flat spot in the rounded spine of my Companion. Now I can use it to strike a firesteel easily.

@@buffalorider3579 companion = same performance as garberg while half the weight tests for decades show you the blade fails before the tang ever fails on a companion anyway, you can straight up baton them (batoning is a joke though) and they don't fail
@buffalorider35792 жыл бұрын
@@escapetherace1943 I rarely ever baton so that is rarely an issue for me. I carry a hatchet/ax instead of batoning. The Companion handles my knife chores very well, has for several years.
@escapetherace19432 жыл бұрын
@@buffalorider3579 exactly why I had 4 (gave them away as gifts) the problem with batoning is you probably want a 5+ inch knife I baton all the time with an 8 inch blade full tang and it's great, but practically purpose built for it. I don't advocate batoning, an axe is just way better, but a small saw and the kansbol or bigger full tang could do some pretty great splitting... The majority of the time though I use an axe, an axe is just better 100 percent of the time, and I opt for the bigger saw too. My bushcraft loadout as it stands is a mora companion, hatchet, agawa saw + 2 backup blades, sharpening puck, fire kit+kindling (birch bark mostly), bankline all of it fits inside a single waxed canvas sheath with a sling, it's pretty great.

Neither of the 2, is a bushcraft knife. Kansbol is a camping knife and Garberg is a tactical/survival knife. Bushcraft knives is a different category. Even the Morakniv Bushcraft Black, isn't a 100% bushcraft knife, but more of a "tactical" style of knife with a scandi edge. Bushcraft knives, are the woodlore, the Skookum etc style of knives. Garberg, is all about marketing, they designed a knife, that brings to the customer, 2 of the words that "Sell" more, and these are the words tactical and bushcraft.

You see for myself,just the name knife means whatever comes by, I can sharpen butter knife stab someone (tactical) or I can cut some twine and twigs (bushcraft)..I am sure 80% of people don't even know how to use knife to its full potential,,I don't know you Sir but you have point,Moras are awesome Knives and I will use them as I please...

@greekveteran27152 жыл бұрын
@@loripage5477 Truth is, that it's what the last advertisment you watched , convinced you what it is. but in my opinion, it is...1st the intention of the designer/maker to design that kind of specialized knife. 2nd the knife that came out as a result of that. 3d It's specific features. 4th Most people, because marketing, has put a "bushcraft" label on everything these days and generally, everything in our lives, isn't normal or true anymore, they don't have any logic, or clear view of things. 5th Because all the above are true, most people have different opinions.

Mora kohanski was a very well respected outdoorsman Bushcrafter and most of the time only ever used a mora 510 or 511 or 546 all work knives that never break and just do the job. Bushcraft knife is a Gucci kit created by ray mears simple as that. I use a 511 for every thing and it’s superb and cost about £8.00 😀

Great comparison, think I’ll stick with the Garberg. Totally unrelated. You should shave your head. And I say that with the utmost respect and hope to hell that doesn’t put you down. Without a doubt a bald head would suit your face. Anyway cheers again for the review and again, I hope this comes across as a genuine and not mean/jerky.
