Morbius: The Vampire Superhero Movie That Sucks More Than Blood

Madame Web has just spun Sony’s most laughably pathetic entry in its Marvel universe to date, which now has Awfully Good Movies revisiting the previously most pathetic Sony-Marvel installment starring Jared Leto as the living vampire turned Internet laughing stock… MORBIUS!
With Venom 1 & 2 overcoming the haters to rake in big box office, Sony further exploited its share of the Spider-Man rights with Marvel and Disney with a solo film for Peter Parker’s vampiric foe that no one was asking for, with Jared Leto yet again making us reconsider his Oscar playing a thankfully less obnoxious comic book bad guy than the Joker. But even his Method dedication can’t liven up this pointless Spider-Man spinoff whose only connection to the MCU is a cameo from Michael Keaton as the Vulture that could have been a Zoom call, and whose only saving grace is Matt Smith as Morbius’ foster brother turned fellow vampire having fun with this like the garbage it is.
Unless you want to see what a superhero movie from 2002 would look like in the year 2022, with entire subplots and lines of dialogue from the film’s trailers nowhere to be found in the final cut (looking at you, Tyrese Gibson!), then I’d say the cinema masterpiece that these memes are jokingly describing would probably be a far more enjoyable watch than the actual Morbius movie, no matter how many theatrical re-releases that Sony gets fooled into.
Awfully Good Movies will (probably) return in August 2024 with its review of Madame Web, now playing in theaters and coming soon to an ad-supported streaming service near you.

Writing this before watching. That end scene with vulture pissed me off on so many levels. I get it's the doctor strange spell in no way home, I assume at least. And they release him. Fine. But how does he get his suit? Did the tinkerer also get zapped into this universe? Even if he did, the suit used t'chari (fuck the spelling) teseract technology after the battle of new York... In a different universe. So did that zap as well? Or is it just normal earth tech? The whole movie is cat vomit the dog ate and then shat out on a freshly cleaned rug. But that end was blood boiling.

Even the connection to the Strange-spell made no sense, just like with Venom visiting the MCU in the post credit-scene from No Way Home. That Venom doesn't know Spider Man or had any beef with him, so he wouldn't be pulled to the MCU by the spell - only the Venom from the Raimi-movies would. And unless Vulture was originally from Sonys spiderfree-verse and then came to the MCU somehow before the events of Homecoming, he wouldn't be sent here. This clearly only happened because Sony wanted it as part of the deal with Disney and logic be damned. Thanks, Sony, but Kevin Feige knew why he wanted to keep the interaction to a minimum.

Ah yes, Morbius. When Sony said "wait, the people liked Venom for some reason??? Ok, give them more and make it shittier!". I love the whole Nobel Prize-scene btw.: So Morbius flies from NY to Oslo and back just to tell them he doesn't want the prize. Not to piss people off or something, it's just that he doesn't want it. While he's under time pressure because he doesn't know how much longer he and Milo have - which is why he then ignores all safety concerns and tests the serum on himself. Makes total sense - like the rest of the movie. And the post credit-scene was just amazing (no spider-pun intended). Vulture landing in the Sony-verse makes as much sense as Venom being transported to the MCU considering the events of No Way Home. But this was what Sony wanted for allowing that movie to be made, so who cares for logic. At least with Vulture they have one good character now ...
