@@rjscorpion8892 my main list runs one platoon command squad in the back with Creed... But I gave them a mortar to make them a pseudo mortar squad when paired with the mortar in the attached infantry squad. Master vox is necessary to make the command blob work, medipack grants a feel no pain, which is damned good... So the flag's got to go. Hence the single tear rolling down my cheek. Definitely love the idea of keeping standards just off the field behind the deployment zone. That's good fun that.

I think you correct about the Cadia Stands ability. Platoon command squad lets you still recieve strategems if you are battleshocked which seems reciprocal.

I just made a list with 3x20 cadians, 3 cadian command squads... but I added Solar, Ursula, and a Primaris Psyker as my second officers to the squads. Might drop Psyker for a castellan now. I have power swords modeled on all my guys, so I don't think I'll get the punch the power fists will bring. They'll do fine against 1 wound infantry at least. The rest of the list is 3x leman russ exterminators, 3x2 scout sentinels with lascannnons, 3x5 scions, and gaunts ghosts. Split between taking kurovs aquilla or an ogryn bodyguard for my last 40 pts. Figured the blobs, tanks, and sentinels can hold a triangle of objectives while scions/ghosts deepstrike for secondaries. Especially now that ghosts can order themselves and scions coming in from deepstrike, it makes them even better utility picks.

I plan on running 3, using fall back to go through the enemy to get on the objectives. Take the losses. Maneuver in a way to avoid taking the desperate escape rolls on important models.

You roll for the models in total going over, so if you have one important and three grunts you just roll four dice and if any fails choose which one to remove 🙂

This is basically the video i've been waiting on. Cadians are viable, we just need people experimenting and talking about them. You absolutely just blew my mind by explaining that Cadia Stands prevents OC loss by the way. I'd been playing them as though that rule basically never came up, didn't understand why it was useful. I feel reinvigorated in my love for the guard!!

From my experience as a Necron Player, there are few things scarier than a kitted out Cadian Blob that decided to sit still for a turn. Buddy if mine plays Guard and he had a unit kitted out with a Castellan, Creed, 2 plasma and 2 Grenade Launchers. We were playing around with some new toys and I just got this awesome sculpt for the Nightbringer and he brought his Baneblade out for the occasion. I'm walking my Nightbringer straight towards the lawn mower. I did the mathhammer and figured that he would be totally fine so he was completely out of place. Yea. Apparently halving damage and a 4++ invuln with 5+++ doesn't mean shit when you are taking 120 shots to the face. I stepped a bit too close and was in half range so he overwatched me with his blob. He had MMM and Take Aim but popped a strat to change MMM to FR/SR. We didn't know if he had Lethal Hits and chose not to include any but even so I had to make about 20 saves and took 5 damage. I go to charge the Baneblade and fail and I didn't even plink off any guardsmen. His turn rolls up and he DEFINITELY has Lethal Hits now. He keeps FR/SR and Take Aim then proceeds to completely spank my Nightbringer like a child touching the stove. I'm pretty sure with the grenades going frag he had 68 shots. Made 45 hits of them and about 18 skipped the wound roll and generated more hits. THEN he rolled extremely hot and scored 20 wounds of them. Leaving me with 35 saves. And when you're saving on 4's, a 5+++ isn't going to save you when you only have like 7 wounds left. So yea, Cadia stands indeed. You may lose a precious turn of movement but goddamn can you get some work in.

I think that losing a turn of movement implies losing the game. Movement is the key to achieve victory, if you don't move you are just waiting for your enemy that will destroy your infantry easily. A Necron player needs only an Immortal unit that comes with the Monolith or with Cosmic precision to do the job, so I think it's not a good deal to use all these points for a so fragile unit. Also, Deathmarks can easily kill Officers. They can come with deep strike, even in the first round with Hyperphasing, and your officers are done, a 45 point character killed with 2-3 rounds.

Moreover: c'Tans are disgustingly tough. A cadian blob wounds it with 5+/6+, and then it has 4+ save e 5+ fnp: It means that a single blob probably won't be able to kill a c'Tan in a single turn of fire. Then, the next round, it gains d3 wounds and simply annihilates more than half of the infantry unit. I'm not sure it's a good tactic. I would like to play tons of infantry, but I think the horde doesn't work for guard currently, and things like c'Tans are just too much strong for us.

I do a similar thing just more special weapons no powerfists we barely survive furst contact in conbat, and most combat armies have abilities that make it difficult to fall back, so doing as much damage before you get charged or make a charge, gaurd shooting is always better than it's combat especially with orders like first rank fire, and strategems like fields of fire. With unit abilities like the exterminator and scout sentinels daring recon so you can make use of plasma and pskers.

I think the most flags you can run in an Imperial Guard army is currently nine - three each of platoon command squads, cadian command squads and militarum tempestus command squads. I'd like to nominate the "colour parade" list of nine regimental standards being taken into battle as a future tournament list.

A lot of investment but a lot of payoff... I can definitely see a list which takes three of these blocks at the top. For now I will stick to my reinforcing bare Death Korps blobs but these are absolutely interesting.

Cadian are good, yes but you are forgetting the lowly infantry squad. I take a blob of two infantry squads w/ plasma and mortars. add a Cadian castellan with drill commander and attach creed to the unit then plant it on an objective in your to take advantage of the "defenders of humanity" rule. thus if the unit does not move it auto wounds targets, even with mortars, on 5s. and should an enemy appear within 24" Creed can issue a second order to the unit like say "1st rank fire, 2nd rank fire" increasing the number of shots to take advantage of the Cadian Castellan's "senior officer" rule as well as the drill commander enhancement. This has killed Skarbrand in 1 round when he attempted to drop with 6" with rapid ingress.

I think it will be viable to have one of these units in order to counter things like C'tan, Avatar and similar big, up-in-your-face kind of threats. Maybe two, but I can definitely see one of them The funniest thing is that due to these new quirks of weapon stats is that the castellan is better in melee than a commander, his power fist hit on 3+ instead of 4+.

honestly i have been looking for ideas on how to run cadians as i have old man creed in my collection needing an unboxing and when i open it i want to have an idea of an army to run with it (i also would be bulking out the base to match his daughter's interms of size and presence but maybe have a banner behind him instead of a just an icon) so an army like this could be interesting to do. plus i already have a decent amount of cadians awaiting painting

nice to see, that other battleline units do well, too. they end up with less survivability than DKoK but instead have more offensive firepower. it is just a tradeoff. ofc many people think, that inf can't realy deal dmg because "melta cant kill tanks any more" but they can still put in a lot of work. ofc sticky is still worse than the DKoK ability, so without added officers, DKoK and even catachans may be better but the unique ability of the cadia command and the castellan easily make up for this. I feel if GW eventually fixes born soldiers so we can move for any reason, they will realy pop off. substained hits + lethal hits is a big dmg multiplier

How about switching the cadian castellen for Inquisitor Coteaz? His power hammer is still 3 attacks but hits on 3s, and is str 9 damage 3. It's 30 more points but adds a good bit of high end smashing to the unit.

Cool tactic.Although it has too many force multipliers for me hahha. I am a slow player, so the simpler the infantry the better. I spend my points in more tanks, and more dudes. I miss the times when equipment was not free, and I could simply focus on numbers and tanks.... It is the reason I dont go to tournaments anymore . Since they removed the conscrips, handeling all that diffferent infantry guys is too tedious.

This blob seems decent at killing light infantry. But if you compare its damage output to something similar costed like the newly buffed maximum scion blob, it falls short. Scion command squad with plasma and volley guns, medic and flag, with commander holding the command rod and grand strategist enhancement. Then a full 10 man scion with max plasma and volley guns. With both FRFSRF and take aim, combined with Scion re-rolls and sustained hits, you can one shot a full 20 Tyranid gaunt blob in rapid fire range. Comfortably. I really wish Cadians were better but they’re overpriced for the damage they do.

After watching Mordian's recent team tournament stream I'm thinking about running a solo unit of Scions like this to deal with units that are too tough for the Basilisk to handle. In my version since it's just the one unit I'll take Drill Commander instead of Grand Strategist for Sustained Hits on 5's. 210 points for the whole 15 man unit seems a bit pricey but the fact that they can then hold objectives after clearing it unlike just taking more indirect fire or tanks. Another consideration would be to add that Inquisitor that gives pseudo-lone operative that MG just made a video about. She would add to the damage output and protect the squad from return fire as well.

One of my main issue with the cadians is the command squad. I think it lacks the flexibility of the platoon squad in terms of limiting how you set it up Adding the Castellan to make use of the master box is fine, but being forced to add another officer to make use of them when they are already more expensive than the platoon Cmd Sqd is a shame and that extra little points cost always puts me off I think the issue with the Cadians is the other squads all do something else better Catachans are faster and better in melee Infantry have more flexible setup options, are tougher on objectives and have more leader options Kreig hit harder, regenerate and have better options for officers to lead them The Cadians are fine, I’ll just almost always find a better option elsewhere

There is another way to use the Cadians now, with the rule's change. The rule stating that you are allowed to take 2 officers does not say that your squad has to be of 20 men to do that, i.e. you can do this with a 10-man squad. What does this mean? Well, take a Cadian shock Trooper squad of 10 (60 points) add to them a Castellan (45) and a Primaris Psyker (60), and put them in a chimera. In this way, you just got yourself an "alpha strike" squad with d6+3 S6 Ap2 Dmg 2 devastating attacks, with sustained 1 with BS 3+ which can be improved to 2+ of course with take aim. The only issue with this is how easy it would die, even with the 4+ inv given by the Psyker. On the other hand, it can both move fast, deploy, and dish out an extraordinary amount of damage to the right enemy type. Now as far as assault goes, I find that 20 Catachans with a platoon command squad, an Ogryn Bodyguard, and a priest would be more dangerous in assault. One of these units can even have Straken and Deddog for a whopping 6 Ap 3 Str 7 dmg 2 attacks with lethal and rerolls, 6 Ap 2 Str 9, dmg 2 devastating attacks hitting on 2+ and 3 extra Str 7 ap 3 dmg attacks hitting on 3's with the right order. Oh and if you give the platoon squad the proper weapons the whole unit does 30 S4 Ap1 lethal attacks hitting on 3's. This squad can totally kill a 10 man space marine squad on average if you calculate the statistics i.e. it has more than 50% chance to achieve this...

I've been considering putting psyker and cadian squad in a chimera but separate units so that the squad can disembark and sticky an objective but the psyker can stay inside and shoot

@@Lorddacenshadowind It's an okay tactic but this way you have the psyker hitting on 3+, no sustained, no rerolls. My opinion is that the best place for a psyker is in a Tempestus squad with a command squad. Expensive but deadly against anything. In general, I have come to think of guard units in one of three ways: Screening units, support units, and alpha strike units. You need your alpha strike unit to dish so much DPS that there is nothing left to retaliate on the other side. In general, Guard are not durable barring Leman Russes and Dorns all else can be easily killed by the right enemy unit. Even chimeras are quite easy to destroy. I mostly use Chimeras are screening units. They are the ones who will move the line forward force the enemy to stop, and give me space to set up. A chimerta in my opinion should not be used as firepower support. We have much better stuff for that. For example, an Eradicator only costs 30 points more than a Chimera and a Primaris and offers more firepower and more durability at the same time

I don’t like the choice of the cadian castellan because you don’t really use it to its full ability. If you want this as a solo squad, I recommend a prismaris psyker for juicy 4 up invulnerable saves and focused witch fire. But there is a better option than prismaris psyker and that is creed. You can now stack first ranks fire with take aim and use her 0cp ability with a vox caster to generate cp in the absence of leontus also the extra AP is nice.

On the infantry datasheet in the unit composition, you’ll find that you can attach up to 2 characters in a unit, for command squads it’s only 1 :)
