I still don't like that they can't be escorted, and buffed, by Commissars, or Priests, and that Guard don't have a second, faster, stealthy assault unit, like something Catachan, with big knives, and camo cloaks, but I am happy that they seem at least decent, when in the past, that wasn't always the case.

I just bought, built and Primed a box of Bulgryns for those delicious grenade launchers and the follow up unit will be the Ogryns and will be getting 6 of em for all that dakka. The information you just granted only makes my reasoning even greater as I’m moving away from lots of tanks to just one Strongpoint tank winged by 2 lighter variants to take on other tanks.

Ok here's an idea: board 6 ogryns on a Crassus, unit dissembarcs on front of an enemy unit you don't want to see anymore. The Crassus shoots, special rule activates if you hit with it's shooting attacks. Ogryns are now 36 shots, 4+ to hit, S5, AP -2 for point blank, D2 and reroll 1's to hit with the scout sentinel and reroll the wound rolls because of the Crassus.

You are correct that in 3rd edition they were only a Toughness 4, and because the Imperial Guard did not get a 4th edition codex this just carried over.

I've been using Ogryn Bodyguard in with my command squads. A couple of days ago Mortarion popped the strat to try and snipe out the Lord Solar in combat. Mortarian did 6 wounds, I passed 3 invulnerable saves, and then rolled m 4+++ FNP and managed to survive the 12 points of incoming damage! The Lord Solar with that feel no pain is downright chunky, especially since most opponents want to try and melee sniper him out as he's buried in the squad.

That's right. But hey, you should rejoice for we can take infantry squads as pseudo-platoons in 10th : two squads slapped together, with the platoon command squad added in. 🙂 This corresponds to the minimal sized platoon back then.

Don't kniw about 3rd edition, but Rogue Trader ogryns were S4 T5, with 3 wounds. (S5 T6 W5 for Bone 'Eds once Guard got their army list).

I've only played a handful of games in 10th so far, however my Ogryns have performed in every single battle. Until our Codex or an update changes them they'll be in every list I make going forward.

Why can't Commissars join Ogryn or Bullgryn? Someone answer me that? It's fluff accurate and appropriate and would make an Ogryn/Bullgryn plus Commissar squad a genuine good pick rather than leaving them all as 6/10 units

hmmm for a tournament i am tempted to try all tanks plus bulgryn and ogryns. The reason I dont go to big tournaments is because I am a slow player and all of that infantry with different free wargear is tedious ( i was happy when I could field them cheaper with just lasguns)

Back in 3rd and 4th only monsters got "real" T5 - not even a Ork Warboss got T5. Only the "T4 (5)" [written with the 5 in brackets] profiles of bikers or nurgle marines that were delibredly meant to count as T4 for the purpose of instakill got that high.

Ogryns since 2nd/3rd were always toughness 5 and 3 wounds. The only thing that has changed really was the range of ripper guns. They used to hit automatically with a lot of sustained fire dice (3? )at Str 4, 1 wound..er cant remember the minus armour save but i think it didn't have one, basically a drum-fed auto shotgun. 1st Edition the melee troops you wanted were sanctioned beastmen units, or assault guard with jetpacks. Back in the day they were my fave target for warp spiders as they had virtually no armour, and warp spiders automatically wounded if you were under the template and if you failed your save you died no matter how many wounds you had. Nowadays (i'm guard and eldar) i see Modern day ogryns get absolutely slaughtered by Wraithguard (who have higher toughness and deal a shit ton more damage)

Absolutely, but they were only 25 points per model, which was playable. Fortunately, GW fixed this vulnerability in 5th edition, by giving them T5 and S5, together with an absolutely appropriate small price increase, to 40 points per model ! 😅... wait... No wonder why metal models from this era are hard to find now. Barely anyone bought this unit.

I'm wondering if the Rapid Fire 3 on their profile is am error. The Ripper Gun on the Bodyguard unit and Nork have Sustained Hits 1. Maybe don't bank on the 6 shots each. They just fixed the profile for Sisters' Dominions' Bolters so they are tweaking the indexes

Strictly using them as a wall before you can hit the gun line would be where I'd use them. Sure no Anti-Tank, but a heavy weapon team or two can las up that hostile vehicle while the Orgyn keep pushing.

It's amusing that Space Marines in ceramite plate made perfect in the days of the Emperor are wet paper in terms of durability, in comparison to a Ogryn in a t-shirt. Not complaining, I just think it's funny. Then again, I'm getting some "Brute" model kits from Wargames Atlantic's "The Damned" range in the next year. Those big bois at least have armored breastplates as standard for the sculpts. On the subject, it IS nice to hear that my plan to go halfway with Ogryn and Bullgryn wasn't completely daft. I just like having a little of everything, and it looks like Ogryn aren't half bad. (Better than 9th ed).

Ratlings and Squats are Abhumans as well. Interestingly, Squats and Ogryns are both "high gravity" mutations but went opposite directions.

That's an example of how lore writers are not up to the task in "realism". Strong gravity means impairing high height organisms. In high gravity you should expect squat and ratling variant of the human race. While Ogryns could be an evolution in lower gravity planets (together whith hostile environments).

not gonna lie these guys seem like a good idea for hitting a 10 man lychguard squad, hitting on 4s with a likely reroll 1s and maybe plus 1 to hit on 3s, then wounding on 5s (4s usually but lychguard are -1 to wound with a leader) and ap1 is all that's needed to get them to their invuln. still not gonna wipe them but should help thin out the blob some

Best way to field Ogryns is to have 2squads (ogryn and/or bullgryn) with sprinkle of your fav oficers in STORMLORD. This is optimal way to play them, U may disagreed but U are wrong.

Reporting for duty , Sir o7 "Rule of Cool" I love it It's sad we can only take 6 max for a squad , but it does Fill up a Chimera . That would save some chip damage that foot slogging would get you . The new "steel legion" armored infantry ❔ OR A Valkyrie or 2 with 6 Ogryns each for a deep strike . The Kasikin / Scions style bomb , but with meat heads ❔ But no officer and risky to put a scout sentinel so far out ahead of main force to get LOS 🤔🤨🤕

@@rbddet yeah. given that (unlike mortar heavy weapon teams) they also have the artillery keyword they even get the sustained hits from regimental attachees which you will often bring 1 or 2 off due to artillery probably still being guards strongest choice. manticores, hellhounds (+lots of artillery) and chimeras+ 2x rapiers are the 3 good light tanks the guard can currently competitively field.

Ogryn seem useable, but they're far from broken. I watched the coverage of both the American and the World Team Championships. Not an Ogryn to be found, nor much Guard. The meta Guard list is indirect spam. Ogyrn also seem pretty bad against all the meta armies. They aren't doing anything against Custodes or Imperial Knights, and they aren't going to be great against Aeldari who will Phantasm away if they try to shoot. They aren't that durable against good lists if those lists actually want to kill them. Interestingly enough, the Guard list for the winning Polish team had 3 Bullgryn, and 3 Hellhounds. But it was mostly indirect platforms: 3 Earthshaker Carriage Batteries, 3 Manticores, and 2 Medusas Carriage Batteries.
