Really intetesting when you said 'lets get a cocker because they're smaller'... people forget many dogs & especially cockers like to be on the go all the time & need stimulation & training ( physical, emotional, mental) as a bored dog can be very destructive / get highly strung /have behavioural issues/ become depressed very quickly. I have a 5 month Toller pup and when people meet her they want one as they are "so cute" without realising they need a lot of tine & effort as they are high energy dogs. We've had them before but even for me, raising a puppy again after 12 years of having only adults dogs is a challenge. I'm lucky to spend 24/7 with mine. I'm have my own dog walking business to a select group of about 10 dogs mainly black Labs, Retrievers & a Visla & a Weinemer.). These dogs don't get a quick pavement plod but instead get a tailored walk / run & some obedience work in the beautiful Peak District countryside where I live...watching the dogs running, walking, swimming, sniffing, rolling around is an absolute joy. I've also had a few dogs where the owners haven't put in the time & they are hard work even to pavement plod walk. Because the dogs were "smaller" the owners just assumed they need less training, less exercise. Letting them run crazily in the park or field until the dog is tired is not the solution even for a small dog. We need to engage, stimulate, teach manners & train the dog too. You definitely get out what you in !

So, really interesting what you said about a well fed dog and chasing the pheasant! So, do I feed my dog his food only while training? He’s nearly 7 months old, but chooses to chase/play with other dogs and ignore me. Never recalls when with other dogs. I’m concerned he’s going to get hurt. He’s runs up to them all to play if I don’t get the lead back on him in time 😵💫. Would love some help/video on this topic 👍👍👍👍

What age were the Labrador puppies at the start that you were encouraging to follow you around? And how long would you keep doing this before progression for a young pup?

None of you won, so none of you get an ice cream. Teaching, life isn't fair 🙂
