The butterfly theory is indeed correct. The things is that there was a brief moment were the new guy Messmer might have been represented by the smoldering butterfly. But no its indeed Melinas butterfly so the theory still holds true

When Messmer was first shown people were quick to assume the Smouldering Butterfly was his instead of Melinas, but once everyone calmed down again and actually re-read the descriptions it still seems more likely that its Melinas butterfly, so yes that theory is still prevailing. Melina being a daughter of Marika is basically 100% confirmed regardless. Another butterfly was shown in the DLC trailer so we will get confirmation once we can read about it, since it will probably represent either Melina or Messmer. But considering its only found in the Shadow its probably Messmers.

Also the sources for all the information is always at the bottom of the screen, but a lot of details are not explicitly stated anywhere and are discovered or hinted at by combining pieces of information or looking at architecture etc. I think Vaati is very good at making clear which parts are speculation and which parts have reached a consensus in the larger community. Most things have only one clear explanation that is being clearly hinted at even without any explicit proof. And some things are still heavily debated to this day, especially things to do with Marika, Miquella, Melina, the Gloam Eyes Queen and the Greater Will, but the DLC might give some answers there. Vaati usually only presents the very safe evidence and if there is doubt gives multiple possible explanations, which makes sense considering he doesnt want his videos to be pointless after more discoveries are made.

Yey, so happy I got to go through these with you just in time for the DLC. Especially this one. The thing is, Miquella is so fascinating for a reason, as he is consistently portrayed as this messmerising, divine, pure and innocent child who bent all of his intellect and powers to help others, whether its his afflicted twin sister, his undead older half-brother, or many of the various persecuted races of the Lands Between. But there is always this hint that it might be possible that he is not purely altruistic, and that at times he utilises underhanded and coercive methods to achieve his goals. He is know to compell affection, and his followers and soldiers have this zealous loyalty to him, so is it purely the result of him being so good, pure and charismatic, or is there magic mindcontrol at play? Anyway, cant wait for the DLC.

I think the implication of incest via Marika/Radagon with GRRMs writing is a red herring. The Empyreans seem to play more a role like the dragon riders in ASOIAF, which is outlined to probably be a form of blood magic where there are "three heads" - the dragon rider, the dragon, and the sacrifice, with some linebreeding and crossbreeding and weird magical sciences took place to create the Valyrians in general who in turn can be born deformed dragon people as a side effect. So, related, but often over simplified. I also think the statue is either Godwyn or Messmer.

Hidetaka Miyazaki (The CEO of Fromsoft and the man behind the Souls games and Elden Ring) has explained that the inspiration of the story-telling in his games comes from his own life experiences. As a Japanese man with a love of Western fantasy, he found himself struggling to understand most of the western books he would read. He would be able to grasp a decent amount of their content with the little English he knew, but then there was much he simply would not be able to understand due to the language. So he would have to figure out those missing details using clues, and his own imagination. The storytelling in his games is intended to create that experience for the player. Much of the information is given to the player explicitly, but an equal amount is not, with the players required to figure it out themselves through clues. And then even beyond that, there is some information which the player will simply never know, by design.

I'm on the side of those that are hoping Miquella ends up being a genuinely GOOD character. Although, I could definitely see how his obsession with purity and ability to manipulate people could turn him into someone very scary. A cool think about the Amber Starlight, that's said to be the fate of a demigod, is that in the trailer for the DLC, it states Miquella abandoned his fate. So, finding that amber starlight makes a lot of sense!

I expect that Ranni will have a big play in the DLC if only for the fact that beating Radahn and consequently allowing her destiny to resume is a requirement to even access the DLC.

I doubt it, she can be gone when you access the dlc after all. I do wish though that we learn more about her connection to torrent which seems to hint at some level of co-operation.

Usually a saint was used by their God as a body to accommodate their decend, or someone who can utilize God power, because their compatibility with devine power, so I think the say of the saint was the alter ego kinda misleading.
