Very informative and great delivery. I’m constantly playing with shafts and lofts on my driver (not on the course) for fun. Clearly you have a great set up there and I’ll look you up when I come back to U.K. 👍🏻

Great video I was thing this same thing myself when I picked up my new m4 driver vs my old aero burner driver. The new m4 seemed heavier and I thought if the clubhead feels heavier it should make ball go faster but then I thought maybe I wouldn't swing it as fast so it would even out or something. I had to get the details lol

Great video. Kinetic energy is 0.5*m*v^2. More energy is transferred to the ball because you can accelerate the lighter the club to a higher velocity. The velocity term in the energy equation is squared so it plays a much more significant role than the mass in determining the exit velocity of the ball. Been having great success with a light driver. You just need time to get used to it. Thanks for the video.

This is definitely something I wanna ply around with. Currently in a tensei raw white 65 stiff playing 45.5 (tsi3). Wanna try 44.5 to see if I get better dispersion and efficiency.

It's 100% worth playing around with. I find for most people it's more of a disadvantage playing a longer shaft. I don't find you get any more club head speed (maybe 1 or 2 mph) but sometimes because the swingweight is so heavy at that length some people lose club speed. I personally feel standard manufacturers lengths of drivers now are far too long

When fitting, is the a common theme with regard ‘what works’ in regards to this test (increased ball speed)?
@epgolfstudios
@epgolfstudios 2 жыл бұрын
Not really bud no as everyone is different. Some people may prefer less weight and therefore get more out of it and some people will hate a light weight and therefore might struggle with strike and speed due to confidence and timing. So no bit really bud

Excellent segment. I have the TSi3 as well and actually had a slightly differently results. I added +4g to the original 8g weight at 7.25 degree, stiff Tour Design shaft. Typically swing it in the 122-123mph range with 181mph ball speed. With the increased weight my clubspeed went up to 125mph and ball speed went up to 185mph based on my latest Trackman record session… my miss is a big pull left with lighter head weight so the added weight help prevent my occasional flip.

Is it worth mentioning the shaft characteristics? Will the weight on the head vs whether the shaft has a low or high kick point impact on the delivery of head to ball and subsequently ball speed? (Question not observation)…thank you👍🏻

So the lighter weight heads increased ball speed some, but the HUGE increase came from intent. Good luck with your new channel. Maybe slow down the screen scrolling a bit. But I appreciate your efforts. Maybe test overall club weight, lighter shafts vs heavier also for faster speeds. Just a thought. I wish I had a testing set-up like yours.
@epgolfstudios
@epgolfstudios 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott, appreciate the comment pal. Not sure what you mean by intent? Yeah having watched back the scrolling is quick! Think for the most part we will take that out of future vids for majority its not required and just a data overload for most. Yeah I think lighter Vs heavier shafts for speed is just minimal. Like if swingweight was the same and I swang a 50g Vs 70g swingspeed would be hardly any different. Overall weight would certainly be a good one, with added head weight and heavy grip Vs no head weight and 25g grip. The difference in that for me would be massive.
@scottschairer110
@scottschairer110 2 жыл бұрын
By intent I mean the difference between your 100 test shots at normal speed and when you tried to hit it as far as possible to reach the green. That change from intent alone upped clubhead speed from 118 to 128. Wow. Unless you also altered your setup or swing in some technical manner, then it's all intent. Like imagining you're in the finals of the world long drive contest against Kyle and you either win or die. I have an iron set of Ram featherlite tour grind forged from Calvin Peete days and the difference in clubhead speed between normal weighted clubs is 5 mph faster for me. The Rams are C5.5 at 14.5oz total weight 9 iron. Lighter clubs definitely help this weak a@@ old man.
@epgolfstudios
@epgolfstudios 2 жыл бұрын
@@scottschairer110 ah ok yes I'm with you. Yeah I think when I get people swinging hard in the studio they are normally shocked at what they can actually get to with a bit of commitment. But yeah I mean I guess I wouldn't love to swing like that on course 😅 so really the test was can I achieve anything more keeping my swing the same. Which tbh even this test shocked me a bit, I didn't expect the ball speed to be that different. And yeah overall weight can make a huge difference. The light swingweight will definitely be good to move it a bit quicker 💪 but head weight I think plays a big part in that, 2g roughly in the head is 1 swingweight whereas about 9g in the shaft is 1 swingweight. So taking weight from the head can be more influential than shaft weight difference for sure. Just gotta be careful about how changing the headweight and swingweight makes the shaft play.
@liang8255
@liang8255 3 жыл бұрын
My experience is get rid of your grip, get something thin and light grip. As minimal as your hand can grip, this increase swing weight and speed quite easily. Shortening shaft length and minimise grip size/weight together will also increase swing weight. Don’t add weight on club, not anywhere, increase total mass only slows you down.
@-bld-
@-bld- 2 жыл бұрын
Agree, this can be a better way to go for sure. The standard size (smaller) super light JumboMax grips are good for increasing swing weight.

When you say different shaft lengths do you mean the actual length of the shaft on its on butt to tip or when its attached to the head of the club from butt to the bottom of the head?

Great video and an interesting experiment. 👍🏻 The feel thing is a funny one, softer shafts feel heavier to me, must be the feeling of loading. Do you generally see a pattern of lighter swing weights going left?
@epgolfstudios
@epgolfstudios Жыл бұрын
I would say more so yes. Lighter swingweight is far more likely to go left than right but that won't necessarily be a pattern for everyone. Would need to test for yourself to see

@epgolfstudios
@epgolfstudios 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah shorter shaft for sure makes a huge difference to strike for most. OEM standard length these days is just crazy. And for most people I don't find they can swing it hardly any faster anyway, so not much advantage!

How much of a factor do you think fatigue may have been? You said yourself, after you finished with the longest club and heaviest weight combo, that you were feeling it in your back. That makes me question how much of the rest of the results were club length/headweight vs player fatigue. It would be interesting to try a similar experiment using a mechanical swing system to isolate the results from the human factor. I don't expect a major discrepancy, but it would still be interesting to see.

Very interesting test. Ive got exactly the same swing speed but with completely different feel. I find the standard 193g weight of the TS3 head way too light, so added 6g of lead tape forward. Then added a counter balanced shaft. It would have been interesting if you did a counter balanced test, I.e. +4 with a Fuji Tour Spec 2.0 for example.

How to reduce swing weight? Can it use heavier grid and how much weight to reduce I swing weight
@Eqnotalent
@Eqnotalent 2 жыл бұрын
Very surprised to see no weight is better. I wonder how will it effect Lower spin drivers. Since they have all the weight by the face. My cobra has 13g up front, if I drop to 6g to C9 I would expect to get prob 800-1000 more spin. Or else why would manufacturers standard swing weight at d2-d4.
@epgolfstudios
@epgolfstudios 2 жыл бұрын
Remember this is for me, not necessarily for everyone. Although I do think on average people would gain more ball speed from a lighter swingweight. I think manufacturers have been going longer and longer in the shaft to try and create more swing speed. Which obviously increases swingweight, but they haven't messed with headweight which they will be going over the next few years I think. If you changed the front weight of your Cobra from 13g to 6g the effect on spin would be marginal. The amount that's actually shifting CG isn't much. It might make 100-200 revs difference. The new TSR4 does a good job of that but even switching the heavy weight back it's 2-300 revs different. You are only ever moving a very small amount of weight relative to the overall mass of the head. So it's never going to make a huge difference. But yeah in short if you remove head weight from the front of a lower spin driver it would shift CG further back but not much. So difference would never be close to 800 revs.

Very informative vid, but dudes, you can't get a realistic playing result from hitting multiple shots indoors with a launch monitor - you can hone it in for the best stats on the monitor with multiple swings, then take it out on the course where only the ONE swing that counts - and push it or pull it totally offline. ...and yes, I think launch monitors are almost useless..um I mean, they ARE useless 😂
@epgolfstudios
@epgolfstudios 3 жыл бұрын
Completely agree it's not a playing environment, from that respect fitting will never be perfect. However, it does give us the ability to get as close as possible to the club we believe will be best for you out on course. Not only in terms of consistency but also launch conditions, which even the most experienced golfer can't really see out on course. So from that respect we need launch monitors to give us consistent data to compare. Ultimately if you can gain 10 to 20 yards from gaming another driver why wouldn't you. And that's not always possible of course, sometimes I can gain you 30 yards sometimes nothing, all depends on what you game now and if it's any good for you. You will make bad swings and it will go offline of course, fitting can help reduce bad swings and misses in multiple ways, but we are very inconsistent as humans and therefore will hit bad shots with any clubs at some point, far more than we would like I'm sure! But even in this video from tweaking weights and lengths I gained massive ball speed. How could that be a bad thing. And without launch monitors we would never know that. Completely get your point that you can get fit and then go out on course and hit bad shots, 100% it doesn't guarantee you will hit every fairway. But if you are going to spend your hard earned cash on something, surely you would not only want to see it, feel it, listen to it, but also know that your good shots are going to be as optimised for you as possible 👌and get you the best results when you make those good swings. No brainer. 🤙
@si777
@si777 2 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know how you can say launch monitors are useless. In the game of golf where data can be hard to come by when you're playing on a course, launch monitor's are a blessing. They've probably even advanced how we swing as well. Even the portable launch monitors and the shot tracking watches you have on the course are massive helps. The more data you have the better when in the right hands. I remember playing 10 or so years ago when we had no shot tracking data out on the course and it was basically guess work if you had no range finder.

It will be different for every player which is why getting fitted is so important. But generally speaking, heavier would mean slightly less swing speed, and for most that would also tie into more of a right miss. But again that is very player dependant
