More nice interactions between Blackpool Zoo's mother and baby Orangutans
Jingga and Jarang
Filmed in February 2024
Mom has some unusual methods but she is really caring towards baby and is spending
more and more time holding him and grooming him. She is going through the important
process of learning motherhood. I am planning my next visit to the Zoo for an update and
will get a video out as soon as possible.
The newborn baby is a critically endangered bornean orangutan born to first time Orangutan mother Jingga
this video was recorded in February 2024
KZbin sensation Jingga has had social media fame before when a video featuring her went viral back in 2015 - viral video - monkey sees a magic trick
The video was filmed at her in her previous home Barcelona Zoo in Spain
Jingga move to her new home Blackpool Zoo in 2017 to join her new Blackpool Orangutan family as part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP)
14 year old Jingga was born in Barcelona in 2009 to mother Jawi and Father Karl
Now Jingga is settled at Blackpool zoo and has given birth for the first time to the tiny baby boy orangutan named Jarang
The father of the newborn baby orangutan is 13 year old Kawan who has recently moved to Blackpool Zoo in 2022 from Apenheul Zoo in the Netherlands and was an instant hit with the resident female orangutans Cherie Summer and Jingga
He came to the zoo as part of the European Endangered Species program after his much loved predecessor Ramon was moved to a new group in Germany where he has just become a new father himself
Kawan was specially selected by experts to join the female group at Blackpool Zoo and has settled into his new role as alpha male orangutan very well
We have recently added Blackpool Zoo to our list of zoos that we will be frequently visiting to film the apes, so watch out for more footage of this fantastic zoo. Blackpool has Gorillas and Bornean Orangutans and we were really impressed with both areas.
There are currently 5 Bornean Orangutans in one family group at Blackpool Zoo consisting of adult females Cherie Summer and Jingga
Alpha Male Kawan and the new male baby orangutan Jarang
Thanks for watching, please Like, Comment and Subscribe!
Blackpool Zoo is a 32-acre zoo and located in the sea-side resort of Blackpool, Lancashire, England. It provides a home to over 1,350 animals from all over the world.

He seems brighter here even though he is skiming the floor today. What is also great is his little scrotum doesn't seem as swollen. That lasted a long time. I wish for him to be a success even if it is in a delayed development. He is gorgeous.

Step by step can take you a long way. They both appear to be moving in the right direction. I would perhaps be more concerned if Jinnga never let Jarang go or if she neve bothered with him. It is pleasing to see she is never frustrated with him and that Jarang is not constantly looking at his mother for re-assurance

It is good to see Jarang wide eyed and moving around more, and even nursing- but I'm no longer buying into the theory of "just let nature take it's course" - an orang infant this age needs more interaction and mobility. He should be attempting to climb and dangle by now.

Even though I haven't been able to watch your channel as much as I would like to, this is the 1st time I've ever seen him able to nurse but she "NIP RIP's" him away shortly after he was able to latch on.😢 He does appear to be of a good weight so maybe 🤔 staff is pulling him away from Momma and supplemental feeding him. I hope because this wasn't anything but a tease to him. Poor little guy. 😢 Thanks for keeping us updated on his progress as I'm sure you're aware that you have a great amount of followers 😉❤️😉❤️

None of us who watch these “snippets” know the full story about these two. The zoo is not the provider of these videos nor do they owe us any explanation. The fact that his teeth haven’t come in is an indicator to me that his lack of physicality is not Jinga’s fault. Just guessing, she is aware of his physical deficiencies and realizes he will not be able to keep up with normal age related markers. He may be wanting to nurse but that doesn’t mean he’s starving. If his primary source of nutrition ha been provided by the zoo staff, she may not be lactating anymore. Bottom line, should they take him from her, and do what with him? These zoos have primate exhibits because they are popular and, therefore, income producers. These are my thoughts, yours may be different, but be kind.

No. Chewing cud is when ruminants such as sheep or goats regurgitate undigested food and chew it to grind it finer. Orangutans just seem to like chewing on things, much like humans chewing gum or tobacco.

Thank You so Much AP for giving us an update. Really hard to watch but so Blessed that this lil Boy has fought hard to be here today. Really Disappointed in this zoo for Not doing what's Best for him. They should have taken him and hand raised with the proper care and teaching and training him how to use his limbs to crawl, walk and climb. Many Zoo's have done this with several different types of Great Apes, Chimpanzees, Primates and many more Animals. Its Obvious this Zoo doesn't have the Knowledge and training to handle cases like this, if this is the reason why, then what qualifations do 😊 they have yo be a Keeper. In my opinion, I really don't think many of the keepers here went to college to become a Zoologist. I know that's harsh for me to say. Anyone with proper education and training would have hand raised this Baby in order to insure that this lil Guy would have a Great Future. My Heart is Extremely Sad and hoping this Zoo will do whats Best and Realize this Baby Boy needs their help..... Hang in there Sweet Boy. ❤

It's not amazing. He's over 9 MONTHS old. He should be sitting up, walking AND climbing by now! He hasn't hit ANY milestones yet. Even more sad, his genitals are STILL painfully swollen! They've been that way since last October. WHY haven't Blackpools veterinarians treated this condition? And why haven't his teeth come in? He should have a mouthful by now. Blackpool has him on display. They should inform the public what, exactly, is wrong with Baby Jarang and what steps they're taking to improve his development & well being.

@@HeartTurnedToStone I am very well aware of this. He should also have most if not all of his teeth amounst other indicators for his age. I am in the early stagest of writing a paper on Jinnga and her adpatation in raising a specail needs baby. This is a faciating glimps into the world of our closest great ape cousins. This is a specail needs baby, can't you be happy there is imrovement no matter how delayed it is. Jarang is close to hitting some of his milestones and that should be celebrated regardles of his developmental issues. They should be celebrated even moreso given his conditions. These are huge steps in his life. The fact you don't think there is improvment or they should be recognized and something to be excited about speaks volulmes about how you see the world and who you are as a person.

@@Axalotal Where have you heard that Jarang is a "Special Needs" baby? Are baby Jarang's "Special Needs" mental? Or physical? I've scoured the Internet trying to find out what's wrong with him. Blackpool Zoo is totally silent on his development (or lack thereof). The only things I can find pertain to his birth. Not ONE of those news clips or articles declare Jarang being born as a "Special Needs" baby. It's unfortunate you spent so much time on a long winded spiel of B.S. in an attempt to defend the neglect of Jingga & Jarang. What's horrifying is the EXTENSIVE amount of tragic instances we've seen in Ape Trackers short snippets of Baby Jarangs life. Judging by the comments, 80%-90% of the people agree and they're all saying the same thing: "Somebody PLEASE STEP IN AND HELP THAT BABY!" How, exactly, does writing "a paper" help Baby Jarangs quality of life? While there's a massive laundry list of horrible things I've seen Baby Jarang subjected to in these short snippets, I'm not going to list them now. With that said, just the fact that Baby Jarangs genitals are so painfully swollen is cause for concern. This has been allowed to go on for over 6 MONTHS (since last October). So you're okay with that? Obviously Jingga was too young to have a baby and is an inexperienced mother. What measures have been taken to teach her "normal" mothering skills? I'm guessing none since there's no evident improvement. Poor baby Jarang, never being NURTURED. He never gets to hear his mothers heartbeat or feel the constant warmth of being cradled like normal Orang mothers do with their babies. The fact that Jarang is supposedly "Special Needs" means he SHOULD be getting even MORE love & attention than the average baby Orang. I believe Jarang was born healthy & normal. If that is indeed the case, Blackpool should have protected Jarang by pulling/protecting him the FIRST time he was slammed on his head - many videos show Jingga dropping him on the hard concrete, head first. She also grabs him by her foot & proceeds to slam him up against hard objects while she swings around & climbs high. She drags him across the hard concrete floor like he's a ragdoll. I know Orangs are tough little animals but for a new baby - It's amazing he hasn't suffered broken & dislocated limbs. Multiple videos show Jarang hungry and wanting to feed. Jingga ALWAYS pulls him off her chest and in most cases, throws him on the hard concrete to lay there hungry while she goes off to do her own thing. All that, yet we've never heard a peep out of him. He's never cried. Not once. Even in the videos where he's being violently swung around up high and LOOKS TERRIFIED, he still doesn't cry? Also, regardless of whether or not Baby Jarang has developmental issues and/or disabilities, it's been evident all along that he's not getting adequate nourishment to help him grow. It's also evident how WEAK he is. At NINE MONTHS, not ONE tooth has come in. He should have a mouthful by now. He's still unable to crawl, stand, walk or climb. I've NEVER seen him cling onto Jingga by himself - she's ALWAYS had to hang onto him. Blackpool Zoo made a big deal about Jarangs arrival and continue to have him on display. Therefore they should be updating the public regarding Baby Jarangs condition since it's obvious there are indeed, major developmental issues. What, exactly, is wrong with him? What is his prognosis? What kind of physical therapy are they doing with Jarang to build up his strength & improve his mobility? His living conditions are also atrocious. Baby Jarang has yet to experience sunshine, fresh air, grass, trees, bugs, etc. Instead, he's locked up in a hard concrete room with only filthy, feces covered dead dried straw on the floor. Nothing within his reach to grab onto, climb up, munch on, stimulate his curiosity or play with. Would you lock your dog or cat up in that room for an entire YEAR? How 'bout your kid? They DO share 97% of our DNA. This is a pathetic environment for Baby Jarang to spend his first year of life in. Poor little guy. It's sad you're so opposed to having compassion & concern about the well being of Baby Jarang. Good luck with writing your "paper". That'll do a lot to improve Baby Jarangs life. Not.

@@HeartTurnedToStone Wow, so much hatred and anger that it is hard to take you seriously. Especially, since you are all over the place with your thoughts. Also, while this is the internet, be careful what you say as defamation of character laws still apply. I have not been silent on the neglect of Jinnga and Jarang. I am fairly sure I have done more than most. I am not just a keyboard warrior. For this thread, I am keeping my comments to the medical. 1. Jarang nearly has medical issues that have delayed his mental, emotional and physical growth; and as a baby that makes him special needs. He fits the classic definition. 2. You are making all these claims of abuse and neglect. Are the claims solely off of the video footage from this youtube channel or have you seen other video footage or have you visited the zoo? You are making a lot of serous claimes Based on this youtube channel and their own research the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOS) disagrees with you or they would have sent a recovery team already. Please provide the links so I can forward them as proof to the BOS or you can send them to the organization yourself at the follwing website. orangutan.or.id 3.What training do you have in the study of primatology, great apes, orangutans, or biology? Are you making an expert opinion or just guessing based on what you think the Jarang needs? To claim you have seen no nurturing shows how little of all the footage you have seen and undsestanding of orantuan behavour. While they are oen of our closest family members in the Great Ape family, the way humans and oranguans handel their offspring is vastly differnt. It is unfair to project human ways on to Oranguans. 4. We agree on how all of this is wrong. Why are you concluding that I somehow do not care about what is happening with Jarang and Jinga? Go back through the videos and you will see my stance has not changed and I am amazed Jarang made it this long. I have commented on just about every video and short - I have watched them all multiple times. Yes, the zoo should be doing a lot more, but since we don't know what is wrong; perhaps there is nothing the zoo can do. There are medical conditions that are untreatable, too risky or the cost is too great to perform. I am not excusing the zoo by any means. Several issues were clear from the day Jarang was born. You are asking great questions. And the answers about what is wrong with him, his prognosis, care plan, WTF is wrong with his groin, was this a birth defect or due to after-birth trauma... the list goes on and on. The zoo should be providing answers. It is infuriating that people automatically blame the mother, especially when these people have no training and just looking for a quick fix and to blame someone out of anger. It is also not productive by any means. Jinga is a victim as well. Based on what you are saying, you think there is something wrong with young single mothers. Essentially that's what Jinga is - a young single mother, locked up with little to no help and no way to express what she needs or wants in terms of help. You have all this compassion for a baby and not his mother who is going through the same problems as a worried parrent. 5. Sadly, my research probably won't help Jarang; that is a separate issue I am working on; however, it will help with similar issues in the future when zoos and rehab facilities have to deal with a special needs baby and or their mother. In most cases it will be only the rescued baby from the illegal pet trade which means rescue and rehab staff will have a better understanding of how to give a more natural care to the child. Research of this type seldom helps the individual's being observed. But there is always hope. If you want to do something other than complain and hide behind a computer let me know and we can talk about ways to help this family. Making any change will take a real-world effort and not just commenting on KZbin. Disapitingly, almost no one ever takes me up on the offer to provide real world help. It is a testament to how people really are and what they genuinely care about.

His scrotum gets in his way due to the swelling, making it large, and that seems to be the problem. That's why he's having a hard time being mobile and able to maneviour around Jinga. He is eating. I was going to not write in this topic anymore, but seeing this euphoria in the comments, it seems to me that not a lot of people realise how an orangutan of this age as Jarang should look and behave. I don't know if the cause of his condition is trauma or neurological problems, I don't know if his mother only feeds him as we see in the videos, so one sip and she immediately pulls him away from the breast (he's small, skinny so it could be like that), I don't know if the zoo has noticed that he most likely has a scrotal hernia and his mother is constantly jerking him around . I know he is not getting proper veterinary care and I still say the zoo is neglecting him. He should be fed and rehabilitated even if he has to be taken away from his mother, because he will never even be able to grip a branch or a rope because his hands are still not functional.I found a video where Jarang was 3 weeks old and had functional hands and fingers, so what happened? in this video she put him face dowen and left him, so I think her fault is his current state of health, she didn't care about him from the beginning.Surely you will delete this comment like the others, but it's hard, someone's the truth becaus

He breastfeeds on Jinga. And has gained alot of weight. He looked really good compared to 4 months ago. He is getting bigger. The vets and specialists have been observing the 2 of them for months now. He is going to have surgery when he is a little stronger. They think his scrotum is the problem, and that's what's causing him not to be where he should be. Hopefully, soon, he will get it. Then I see him learning to sit up, crawl, and walk all in the same day once he is healed up as well.

After watching this video a few times, I can see that some of the issue is cuz Jingga doesn't know enough what to do. Idk if him on her nipple irritates it, maybe it's sensitive & bithers her that she doesn't feed him to the point that he's full or if it's something else. I also am thinking tjat maybe she carries him by her foot cuz maybe it hurts or bothers her when he pulls her fur in other places. I believe she doesn't understand fully that she has to teach him things & help him het stronger. But it's not her fault. She is young and doesn't have any experience as a mother or no examples to teach & show her the proper way. That being said, she does love him & tries her best trying to be a great mommy to little Jarang. I do love to see them and can't wait to see how this little family does as time goes on. They are both beautiful, and Jarang just melts my heart. He's getting more active as time goes on. I'm definitely rooting for the both of them. I would love to see them in person someday. ❤❤😊

There must be something going on, as you mentioned it. I just was visiting the homepage of the Zoo, and they wrote that Jingga and Kawan become Parents of a healthy son, born at 14th of June 2023. Its possible to adopt an Orang Utang for 75 british pounds per month. Maybee we should lay our money down to support Jarrangs little Live❤

@@mighj354 to me it seems, that all the last videos are maybe old ? there is no new report about Mom and son at the homepage of Blackpool Zoo. I hope we all are not fooled. And that Jarang is still with his Mom

The baby can't crawl, can't sit up or climb around his mother. Not normal and not normal behavior from mom.

I am starting to wonder if the seemingly lack of attendance on Jarang is a long process of letting him eventually perish simply by Jingga's lack of mothering skills. He now needs hand rearing, or to supplement his feeding. The tiny videos just make us more frustrated. We could have a 20 minute one to just view Jingga over a longer period. Something more substantial. He is such a gorgeous little boy.

I’ve watched these since Ape Tracker started posting them. I’ve read all of the comments and have been disappointed by all of the snarky and accusatory ones. The zoo owes us nothing in the way of explanation. Upon reflection I think Jingga may be depressed. She carried him for 8+ months, birthed him and had a sweet infant, who apparently has motor skill problems. He is unable to keep his balance, which has nothing to do with her teaching him. It’s innate and, to me, an indication of physical deficiencies. This must be disappointing for her as well. Just a thought from a human perspective.

I am very sad for this baby!! The problem is twofold; inexperienced mother and some kind of physical problem. When an Orangutan is born their grip (all four limbs) is written in their Genes! The Mother never let him hang on her and coupled with the fact that he has some development problems (could be D3 deficient) is a disaster. Bottom line is that the Vets should have intervened a long time ago!! Period!! And, if they have done nothing, then shame on them!!! Please, please help this baby!! And, PLEASE post more videos? He is such a beautiful baby!
