Freud Diablo also has a sandnet sandpaper that I've used for years. (This is for those of you that are weekend woodworkers, or just getting into the craft. Or don't want to spend a whole lot.) A shop vac with a cyclone that pops on the top of a 5 gal bucket. (Home Depot carries one.) Does a really great job without spending a ton of money and without having to clean the shop vac filter 9 times an hour. Lol

Fantastic perspective! I try to keep that as well. Except for when I make identical parts instead of mirrored parts. Or cut the feet off a desk instead the stool 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Sometimes I just do dumb stuff. Lol

Honestly my biggest mistakes are #1 Over thinking things. I've wasted more time pondering the best, most practical and accurately constructed things. By thy time l decide to move ahead I've exhausted myself just thinking about it. Then zip zip it's done and l realize l could have built 5 in just the time spent thinking about it. #2 Knowing and accepting when good enough is great. Excruciating over tiny imperfections that honestly dont matter and nobody would ever notice. And agonizing over minute details that dont matter anyway. Oftentimes in my efforts to resolve issues that nobody would ever notice gad l left it alone. All l end up doing is drawing attention to it.

Those are both tough to overcome. Spent a lot of time there myself.

Wow. FoulOwl you must be a really intelligent and meticulous person. I can barely get anything done. I spend years thinking about one project, before actually completing it, and rarely actually complete it. It usually gets 90% done, but is so over complicated and I am so fanatical about it being perfect, that I can't actually finish it. I recently had the chance to watch an 81 year old Buffalo farmer work on several big projects. Note: He owns more land and probably has a higher net worth than anyone I'll ever know. I noticed, when he works, he only works on one single thing, and puts 100% focus into the job at hand, and won't stop until it's 100% done. Now the clincher: He does really sloppy work, doesn't measure, doesn't use a level, doesn't tape off equipment he's painting, and doesn't align anything, he just gets it done as fast as possible, and so it's "good enough." He gets so much done, he's one of the most productive people I've ever met. Seeing the older and very successful man's process of doing sloppy work, has helped me immensely. I'm finding that it helps to stop obsessing and just finish a project. But I'm still really struggling with it. One small scratch in a finished product can ruin my entire day, so I am still trying to working through the curse of OCD.

Thank you! This is a great series. Always nice to learn without having to scrap a project piece! :). Seems my problem is mostly marking the wrong side....and I won't notice until I've made that mortice. The "make extra pieces" advice is such a good idea. :)

What are the chances I stubble on your part 1 at 10 minutes before you dropped this one😍 any advice to newbies who don’t have joiners or planers. I also don’t have a climate controlled garage to work in so I see headaches down the road

That’s fantastic! I actually did a series on machine substitution a few years ago.. should re-do. Just search “woodworking without a jointer” or planer. And youll find them
