Come on Chris, a lot of the pop music in America is written by Swedish people. Max Martin (Swedish) co-wrote the biggest hits of the last 30 years, including 25 Billboard Hot 100 number-ones, from "...Baby One More Time" to "Since U Been Gone" to "Blinding Lights". He co-wrote and produced the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, N'Sync, Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Usher, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Coldplay, Maroon 5, Ellie Goulding, Adele, ... to name a few. Martin has won the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year award a record 11 times.

Last year was brutal... Even a year later I still cant believe what happened with the 4 zeros, but especially the double nill for the UK. It wasnt the best but it def didnt deserve that either. I am kind of curious what you will send next year...hopefully it stays this way for some time

@@AdamN618 personally Sam's song wasnt my favourite either but it definitely deserved a place in the top 10. Even if next years song shouldnt be as good as Space man I still hope they will go this route they chose for this year. It worked and probably will work in the future as well. I hope my country makes it finally to the finals...we were 11th the second time in a row. 😅 idk what we are doing wrong these past few years...but well at least we could see some.other countries doing better like the UK and also Spain 😁 I love those "plot twists" in Eurovision.

I personally would love to see something more etno style from our artists but it seems they decided to go the english route with western flair. Speaking as a Brit who watched Eurovision as a kid but stopped caring about 10 years ago. This year was quite a big deal. Most of us kind of just assumed the rest of Europe always hated us but it turns out we just weren't flexing our music enough. Who knew.

We the Eurovision fans here in the comments sections on KZbin writing and repeating THIS for years by now!!! But still Every year when the Final show was over, the same old play began to repeating itself, of Non-Eurovision Fans from the uk, starting to flood in to the comment sections of every new uploaded Eurovision related KZbin video and immediately beginning too whining and crying, that nobody from mainland Europe supposedly likes the UK and that all 40 participating countries feeling a huge grudge against the poor innocent Brits 🥺 Just because of leaving the EU… Even agter telling them that actually almost half of the 41 participating countries are also not part of the EU and so could care less about their Brexit, but still didn’t have giving points to the UK entries of the last couple years! 😂

You guys brought up how Spain was able to control her voice even dancing full out…it is quite impressive. Just wanted to share that when I saw Lady Gaga live she did an entire concert and the only time she took a second to catch her breath where you could hear it was between the different “acts” or “sets” of songs where she’d talk to the crowd. It was really wild…because her vocals sounded other worldly/angelic it was crazy. I’m sure there are plenty of artists who can do that…like Beyonce and Pink but witnessing it in person is really impressive.

Love UK's entry & your sincere & enthused reaction to it, in particular! There were some amazing performances this year. I personally counted about 17 great European acts😊. And regarding Pat's point about Ukraine winning, the whole of the European public showed solidarity & voted overwhelmingly for them. *The UK itself awarded Ukraine the maximum 12 points in the public vote,* probably knowing that Ukraine would be its closest competition. I think the UK is very happy with 2nd place. Plus, they don't have to spend all that money hosting the contest next year...hopefully.🤞

The voting system is basically 50/50 between public (televote) and professional juries. They rank the songs from 1 to 8, 10 and 12 points. 12 to the most voted. Then they give the votes from the juries and finally the votes from the public, from the last place to the first and everything can change in that moment. Sometimes an entry that didn't receive points from the juries, receives a lot from the public, and you can't guess the winner until the last country votes.

@@thetaomega7816 No you're wrong, Marketa says with a completely straight face at 2:21 , "Australia are not EITHER". The 'either' implies the UK, in her view, aren't part of Europe. Because as we know, Australia actually aren't part of Europe or the European Union. This would be a completely irrelevant point if she was joking because aren't used as justifications, and there is no noticeable attempt at humour. They say it again at 27:38. They suggest that the UK and Australia are not supposed to be in the competition and go on to list other legitimate examples without acknowledging that the UK is legitimately part of Europe. It would be odd for that to be a joke since every other example they list is a legitimate example. No one laughs, they are clearly trying to figure out why the US isn't included when other non-European countries are. They just fell for a more simplistic version of the real events because they're quite far from European political repercussions.

Just some extra info. This year in the competition prior to Eurovision (to choose the song se were going to the actual show) there were quite a few good songs to choose from in Spain. I really wanted Tanxugeiras to win with the song Terra (if you have time, check it out, it's amazing. It's not in Spanish, but in a co-oficial language, Gallego, and the theme is "no borders"), but Chanel did a fantastic job and brought a lot of energy to the stage.

This year’s Eurovision was the best in years! I loved it and most songs were decent. Honestly I’d recommend watching this years if you have time. As a Brit not only did we finally have a great song and artist, it meant for the first time in years the UK didn’t come near the bottom. He’s the hero of Eurovision in the UK. We should send him every year. It’s always fun that on that one night around 200 million people across the continent of Europe are all watching the same show! I’d happily rewatch this whole show with you guys!

Did these Americans say that the UK isn't a part of Europe anymore? We left the EU, not the continent of Europe. Why did the European lady not correct them? Instead she said, "neither are Australia." Everyone in the world does know the difference between Europe and EU, right? Europe is tyhe continent, EU is a political union of SOME European countries, 27 out of 50 to be exact. That means there are 23 countries in Europe that are not in the EU, which include Norway, UK, Switzerland, Ukraine, Turkey, Russia, Kosovo, Iceland, Monaco etc etc Did Chris really say, "We can't compete, we have all the superstars."??? You think you have all the superstars because your charts are full of Americans and some breakthrough artists from the UK (and other countries). Americans just don't get it...a state against state competition would never capture the spirit of the ESC, since a big part of it is fostering relationships with you neighbours and exploring each other cultures. An America (th Continent, not the US) wide competition might work, but then the US would most likely ruin it by being all competitive about it, and sneering at it if they don't get to win.

Eurovision has a little politics, but it's mostly about cultural perceptions. I mean, the most influence on the results are from normal people, most of them don't care about politics, they just listen to the music, because the lyrics are often in languages they can't understand. A good part is about choreography. That's why native english speaking countries always perform badly, they put everything in the lyrics, arguably the least important part XD edit: about the final part of the discussion. Marketa is right, the word Eurovision indicates the communication network, a way to unite the continent through tv. Not really a tv channel, more like the infrastructure itself. Like all the political entities in the continent, it became larger and now is basically worldwide like any other big network. Some countries like Israel are not even european, but I guess they are in the contest because of some agreement, nobody cares about these technicalities. Europe has a complex history, just looking at the last 100 years we bombed each other a lot and we were divided in 2 parts until 1990, so things like the song contest are very welcome. Unlike Usa, basically a desert conquered slaughtering natives, Europe is way harder to unify, we are trying since 1950 but the process is slow

UK is still part of Europe, even if they are not part of the European Union. Europe is a continent, EU is a is a political and economic union. Eurovision existed long before EU.

UK is of course a part of Europe. It cant leave the continent. The European Union is a totally different thing. They just left the union. This year wasnt the best in my opinion BUT the hosts did a good job and I am happy the queen Laura Pausini was a part of it. Still sad that Spain didnt win. Also Spain was one of the most anticipated songs/performances this year, thats why the crowd went nuts more than with others. When you watch Moldova, they brought the real party into that house. Spain, Moldova and Finland were my personal favourites. Finland had also a nostalgia factor since The Rasmus were quite big throughout Europe in the early 00s - mid 00s when I was a teen. The political aspect of Ukraine winning was a bit...hmm... I liked Ukraine but I felt bad for the other contestants because weeks before people were already speculating them winning just because of the situation. Still, we got some bops and I am happy that some of them are in the charts in different countries because they deserve it.
