In my forty years of hunting I haven’t had three all day sits in a season let alone back to back. Much respect to those who enjoy it…

It wasn't as bad as I would have thought. I think it does help to have the cameraman there to chat with on days like that and I do enjoy Carsen's company. Most of the time I would way rather hunt without a cameraman, but on those all day sits, it sure makes the time go faster. Good luck and thanks for the comment.

I had 2 all-day back to back stands, lol I hardly sat down with no drink or eats or cameraman last Wednesday and Thursday had a nice 4 or 5 year old come in at 2 on Wednesday. Midday is can be real good right now. Good luck!

Had three all day sits in a row on the 7th-9th in East Central Ohio. Good action and 2 close encounters on shooters, but couldn't seal the deal. It definitely turns into a mental marathon on those long days, but stand time is the name of the game. To Bills previous calling video, grunted one shooter into 40 and he just locked up and kept looking for the deer who was grunting at him. Circled back and eventually got on my trail about 50-60 yards up. Kept looking for the buck that was calling to him and he even grunted a few times. He just couldn't bring himself to keep coming in. Eventually wandered into the strip of pines I was on and never saw him again

I had a buck just like "Thor" one season. Every time I hunted a particular stand that button buck would show up within 30 minutes of me climbing up. He would then mill around and bed down often within 30 yards of that stand. He knew I was there and didn't seem to care ... like you said, I think he thought of me as his only friend! LOL I got a lot of enjoyment out of watching him.

Poor Carson lugging all that stuff up and down three days in a row, setting up and all, without even a bow in hand. At least the Thor encounter keeps morale high! Such a beautiful spot though, and that is a cool looking buck with the turned down beam

Carsen is getting paid so you shouldn't feel too sorry for him. Not a bad job, if you think about it. But he is young and can handle the carrying of things just fine! Have a great day and thanks for the comment.

It seems like your farm may just need a couple more years to build up the age structure, unless you have neighbors that are pretty hard on them. My new place took 7 years after I bought it, to get the age structure I was after. Took my first buck off it this year, a mid 170's that I was after, and, as of now, there are a few more surviving that hopefully I can look forward to next year. We'll see. Always enjoy your videos no matter the outcome of the hunt.
@bill-winke16 күн бұрын
For sure. That is point well taken and good input. It should be good in a couple more years. I don't think the neighbors are putting too much pressure on them. For some reason, not sure why, there just weren't hardly any mature deer around here when I bought. I was pretty surprised at that. Have a great day and thanks for the comment.

I've had many all day sits. Never a dull moment really. Listening to the Earth. I also,gun season, had a Doe fawn hang around me a couple years ago. No reason for it I guess other than she knew she was safe maybe? Not that I'd kill her but is it possible they use us to ward off predators? So much we think we know but do not. Great videos thnx

James, you said a mouthful there. I have been humbled more often these past few years than in the rest of my hunting career combined. The more we learn, the more questions we have and the more we realize we don't know. I guess that is what keeps this interesting! Have a great day.

We have a roughed grouse on our property that has befriended us. He hunts with me in the tree when I'm out. I even have a photo of him sitting on my arrow that is in the bow as I am holding it. Funny how nature seeks companionship. Clearly Thor didn't read your bio!
@bill-winke16 күн бұрын
Thor knows that I wait until they are older. I think he is just trying to win me over while he is still young enough! I love ruffed grouse. If I had a tame ruffed grouse I would hunt that spot all the time even if there weren't any deer there. Thanks for the comment.

The bobcat sighting makes it a successful sit! Was in the stand Friday afternoon. 55 degrees and was not expecting much movement. 4:10 and two bucks appeared. 5 minutes later and one of my targets showed up 80 yards away. Made a couple grunts and made little indication that he heard the grunts. Within 10 minutes, he made a big circle and I harvested him at 25 yards! You never know! Confident that you’ll get your chance and we’re ready to see it on video!

Bill that area looks good you did all the cutting. Should get a lot thicker in couple years. What types of trees were you cutting? If you have an area like that with alot of oak to would you consider having it logged? 16-20 inch trees
@bill-winke16 күн бұрын
We cut just about everything but oak and walnut. We mostly just picked spots where we could make openings. It doesn't make my difference to cut just one here and one there, so we left some other species where we couldn't make openings. Yes, logging is always an option, but I am a sort of tree hugger when it comes to those big oaks. I just love looking at them. I used to log more aggressively when I was younger, trying to generate cash to buy more land, but now I am slower to do it. Eventually, I will log the place, but it will hopefully be a while before then. Good luck.

It would be cool to see you try to grunt him over even if you didn’t plan on shooting. I do that on smaller bucks for fun. See if it works. I used your going out of sight grunt technique a few times the past few days. Works way better than grunting at them 40 yards away
@bill-winke16 күн бұрын
Yep, you need to make them come back to search. If they can just stop and look, they will get edgy and move away. Thanks for the comment.

I can't understand how with as many deer the thermal drone detected on your property why you're not seeing more deer!! I'm irritated for you 😂
@bill-winke16 күн бұрын
The drone only spotted 65 and if you figure that this hilly land has a lot more surface area than a normal farm (per acre of land) the density is probably closer to around 35 deer per square mile on flat land and this is mostly cover - so they have plenty of places to go. That is not a high density and if they plenty to eat and good cover there is no urgency to do anything. These deer move less than any deer I have ever hunted. Have a great day.
@PBAdventures14616 күн бұрын
@bill-winke That makes sense. I'm really rooting for you to get the Jordan buck! What a cool story if you end up getting him!
@gfalk397216 күн бұрын
I hear of so many hunters taking 45-50 yrs shots and then they wound and loose them.
@bill-winke16 күн бұрын
Yes, 40 yards is even a really long shot at whitetails. They move so much while the arrow is in the air. Even if you are a really good shot, it is still tough when the deer is likely to move. Have a great day.

Why did Bill move to a place with terrible hunting? For years he had THE most famous hunting land. And he gave that all up for what, hills and hollers with no deer?
@bill-winke16 күн бұрын
It will get better, Nick. I needed to get back closer to my family as my parents age and I figured the best way to do that is to sell the other farm and buy one closer to them. Time will tell how much better this one will get, but it will be a while (if ever) before it is as good as the old one. Have a great day.
