I was shocked at the breath pressure for the Osawa AC i got today expecting it to be close to the NbN and it tripped me up as I ran through my repertoire to test it. Its definitely a learning curve, like im used to the sharp surprise airy whistle that happens on the high F from NbN but to have acomplete dead note when doing the same on accident with the osawa. Though I did notice the Milt technique was easier for me to do and I could actually do the note higher than the high G on the Osawa than I could on a ceramic or the NbN, overall I am satisfied with my growing collection of little geese

I miss playing my ocarina so much! This is a great video!

The Brio always had a whole bunch of factors that bothered me, such as the breath pressure and the fingering so I got a Noble Soprano for myself to replace it. One of the things that really makes a difference for me between those two instruments is the balance that the Noble has. I think I'd attribute that to the classic Noble hook. Looking at the Osawa compared to the Brio though, there definitely is a hooked end that should help a player balance more. Also though, wear earbuds when using your Sopranos. I never use my noble Soprano without covering my ears with something at least. You're gonna get ear damage regardless of how long your practices are if you don't protect them

I definitely have a soft spot for the Brio because it's the plastic soprano I've played the most, but I would say the Osawa and Noble are just a *bit* more solid instruments And good note on wearing ear protection! Ear plugs can mess with your perception of tuning, but if it's a solo practice session without a backing track, that doesn't really matter-I usually practice with my noise-cancelling headphones on

On the other end of the ocarina spectrum........what do you think about Purple Clay Ocarinas?
@redryderaus Жыл бұрын
You never talk about the ergonomics and comfort with each instrument. I find an ocarina with the mouthpiece at 90 degrees to the instrument uncomfortable to play while an ocarina with a mouthpiece at an angle (which puts my hands at a more natural angle) I can keep playing and enjoying.
@AndyCormierYT Жыл бұрын
I usually do specifically discuss ergonomics, but sometimes I forget! I have a sensitive right wrist, so I also STRONGLY prefer ocarinas with more gentle angles on the mouthpiece, one reason I’m such a big fan of the triple harmony by songbird. on that note, I might’ve neglected to mention the ergonomics of the Osawas specifically because they’re quite ergonomic with a gentler mouthpiece angle

Can you make a video about Alto Double Chamber Mini, Key of C in imperial city? I am planning to buy it, but not sure if it's good

Maybe Momo wants to play ocarina with you, did you ever consider that? 😂 All kidding aside, I like the bright colors myself! I don't have a huge ear for music so they all sounded really good to me, but I still have to go with an Ocarina of Time replica if I were to buy one just because, what Zelda fan wouldn't want one? ☺

Remember to check out his video on what ocarina not to buy if you're looking to buy a replica!

My focalink plastic is dark blue. It's not an oot replica, but close enough.. 🙂

Momo DOES seem to *really* want attention when he's meowing at my ocarina playing. That said I don't think he has the musical training (or fingers) to play one And just make sure it's from a reputable brand-STL is the most cost effective, while Songbird is a bit more premium in its look~

I have the Osawa AC. Do you have any tip for reducing the airiness on the high notes? The high F feels especially hard to play well. Of course, I'm starting to think about upgrading anyway maybe to a triple chamber ICO so maybe it's not that important...
@AndyCormierYT Жыл бұрын
Biggest tip for high notes on plastic ocarinas is to play with the breath pressure. Unfortunately the Osaka is simply a bit airy on the F, but try using a bit less or more air and see if that clarifies the sound a bit! our natural inclination is to keep adding more air for higher notes, but for some ocarinas, the breath pressure can hit a ceiling around D or E (or has an extra jump in air pressure lol) the gist is, slowly try increasing or decreasing your breath pressure from what feels natural and find a level that has minimal airiness

I recommend acute bend technique for high notes. It works flaweless)
@AndyCormierYT Жыл бұрын
@@fik1324 Yup! The acute bend also modified the air pressure inside the ocarina, and it is probably a bit more reliable on Acs than just adjusting breath, I prefer maintaining my posture + reducing my breath pressure :)

Hey, have you played the plastic Odami Ocarina? I wonder if you’d recommend it.

What ocarina would you recommend under $100 tuned to 440? I understand that some are tuned to the international standard of 442.

The AC osawa actually sounds better than the AC night by noble my opinion but conversely the SC night by noble sounds better than the SC osawa
