More LANDINGS per minute than on JFK AIRPORT | World Gliding Championships Day 5

Pilots in the three classes club / standard / 15 meters are competing in the World Gliding Championships in France. All 94 glider pilots are towed in the air by a fleet of 12 tow planes in less than 1,5 hours. This means more peak traffic than on international airports!
Day 5 was cancelled after all classes were in the air, because of a thunderstorm arriving. The competition pilots tried to land as fast as possible to store their gliders in the trailers before the rain began. For the spectators this meant nice final approaches with several gliders at the same time!

In Competition they only tow you to a certain hight, and if pilots dont release they just dive.

Wow, that was spooky!!! Seeing that horrified me. These are experienced contest tow pilots and glider pilots I suppose. They must be accustomed to different procedures than I’ve ever dealt with though I’ve never flown a contest.

the LS3 that Stefan is flying is usually about 20000€ on the used market. however he did a lot of modifications on it (winglets, bugwipers, instruments etc) so I guess it's higher than that.

2:29 fastest tow plane of the competition ? For sure. 2:25 huge motor ? Nope : only 180cv like others ... www.aeronogaro.com/ParcMachine.php#avion : CP751B Beryl, equipped with small pitch propeller for towing at this championship (so cruise speed is reduced from 135 to 115 kts) Joël or me will be happy to make you try if you want !
