I dont think Dan Brown writes prose very well but he plots like nobody's business. Really outstanding in that area. Puts in a lot of cliffhangers that keeps you turning pages.

I appreciate your detailed reviews ie, slow moving, good characters, etc... Very helpful for me when I'm choosing a book. My first Banks read was Wasp Factory, which I'm glad I read but not sure I will read any more Banks. Girl w the DT: it was interesting to me, that the first movie had the title Some Men Hate Women. Not sure if the US publisher, or someone along the way, thought Girl with the Dragon Tattoo would be something to catch more readers.

Why thank you... and as for the name change. I assume the US publisher thought the title would turn of American readers

Hi, Rachel! For a page turner book, I would recommend Sibs by F Paul Wilson. It's kind of a unique take on a possession story. The narrative flow is very fast and you might finish it in just one sitting. The author also dabbles between horror and sci-fi genres much like Dan Simmons.

I’ll try the Piper book. Long ago I started the DaVinci Code. I sprained my eyeballs while rolling them so hard. DNF’d it, and had no desire to read anything by Brown after that. But I’ll have to give Angels a try since you liked it and our tastes are similar. Let us know what you think of DV Code…if you like it I’ll give it another try.
@TheShadesofOrange2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I just started Da Vinci but it's kinda "samey" so I'm not sure if I'll finish
@chocolatesouljah2 жыл бұрын
@@TheShadesofOrange LOL on "I sprained my eyeballs while rolling them so hard." I am a fairly slow reader, but the Da Vinci Code was such an easy read. Not because it was so great but because I think it was designed to be a speedy express train rather than a car drive with pleasant stops. It was utterly forgettable and so very square-jawed guy meets entrancing Shero, and they go on a lam, because heteronormative couples do it better, but also the Shero is part of a plot twist and oh dear - you called it on "samey."

Can def recommend The wasp factory, I read it when I was in high school and it stayed with me and sparked my interest in really messed up books (it may have something to do with the fact it’s set in Scotland so it felt much closer to home to me than North America based books) it’s also a nice quick read. I am a Iain M Banks fan and love his SciFi series The Culture which he is most famous for but did check out some of his darker forays into contemporary fiction books I did read Wasp Factory which was his first published full novel even before The Culture Series some 9 years before Complicity…I know you like disturbing books and will say that Wasp Factory is more disturbing than Complicity but maybe not as well written as Complicity especially considering it was his first published work…So knowing you weren’t impressed with the writing style in Complicity then Wasp Factory probably won’t wow you in that category either or maybe even less so but Wasp Factory is more disturbing than Complicity so maybe that will be enough to entice you enough to read it.. The Culture series is his best known works maybe give those a try at some point…Enjoyed the video keep up the good works 👍🏻

I've read " The Da Vinci code" long time ago, out of desperation (long story), I wasn't impressed and never picked up anything by Brown again. I have to give it to him it reads fast but the idea wasn't as orginal as it was made up to be at the beginning, similar thing was done by Katherine Neville in "Eight". As for the construction and suspens I discoverede Grangé a bit after and for me he's a much better thriller writer, with few ups and downs ( like satanists running around Cracow, oh boy that one was dumb), but "Crimson rivers" (which has a very good movie adaptation, got me to read the book in the first place) and " Miserere" ( which has a very bad movie adaptation) are really good with the mysterious secret organisations working in the shadows too.
