I was actually going to try a No-Death Series Run, Featuring Zero Mission, Prime Trilogy, Samus Returns, Super, Other M, Fusion, and Dread. If I die in any of them, it's back to the Beginning of Zero Mission. Glitches/Sequence Breaks/Amiibos/Restart Restricted. I can't Restart if I find myself in a bad situation (or in the Prime Trilogy, I can't Restart to Reset the Rooms next to a Save Room to repeatedly destroy Supply Crates until I reach MAX Ammo; did that for Omega Pirate on my first Switch Playthrough).

Don't get me wrong, I love both Fusion and Zero Mission (Zero Mission is in my top 5 favourite games of all time), but I just can't in good faith be excited for these releases. For one, both of these games are steals on the Wii U virtual console and you don't need to pay Nintendo indefinitely to play them. Also, the fact that before making Dread Mercury Steam were originally planning on remaking Fusion (which eventually transformed into developing Dread), and instead we just got a port with NO prospect of a remake is underwhelming to me.

@darkmaster1455
@darkmaster1455 Жыл бұрын
@@mononokemar Even so, my point still stands; it's not unreasonable to think after the success of Dread that Mercury Steam would revisit Fusion. Imagine fighting Serris, seeing Sector 5 demolished by Nightmare, being chased by the SA-X, etc in Dread's style. A Fusion remake has practically unlimited potential and would require much less work than Dread because they already have a solid foundation for the story, enemies, as well as map design.

I've been playing it since I was 7 or so, and still go back occasionally to play it now. It is also equally the easiest and hardest game I've ever played. Fusion does a lot of good storytelling. But the suspense of the game does it well, as it does carry that same sense of fear into Dread. So chronologically speaking I have to give an edge to Fusion there. Zero Mission has a few nice tie in's as a precursor to Super Metroid. I like Zero Mission for it's open ended approach to sequence breaking. Want to fight Ridley First. Sure. I remember doing a hardmode run taking on Ridley first which made Kraid a piece of cake. Imago larva was a pain in the arse on hard. I think from replayability overall I give it to Zero Mission. Tho what ultimately I'd love to see out of ZM is the reverse escape sequence done RTA. It's stupidly tight in terms of timing, but if a machine can pull it off, maybe a human can eventually.

Zero Mission is the better Metroid game, but Fusion is a better Metroid story. Zero Mission has some of the best parts of all of the 2D Metroid games up until that point. Fusion creates an element of fear, isolation, and dread that can only be compared to Alien Isolation, and Metroid's original inspiration; Ridley Scott's "Alien". I have yet to see another Metroid game truly create dread in that way. The EMMI of Metroid Dread come close, but the fact that there's visibly a lot of them (they're also colored like a handful of skittles), you kill them fairly easily throughout the game, and they aren't really a personal enemy makes them not quite as frightening as they could have been. The SA-X was the perfect Alien to Samus' Ellen Ripley.

Determining a preferred one is somewhat difficult. Zero Mission is a rawer Metroid experience. Light on story, heavy on exploration and non-linearity. Also, despite being a remake it has a buttload of brand new stuff. I always loved that stealth segment you have to do after losing your Power Suit after Mother Brain. Fusion is more story based and railroads you more, but it has amazing atmosphere and is the closest the franchise has ever come to a Horror experience. (Fusion’s soundtrack particularly seems to enjoy scare chords and very tension building music.) I think I personally prefer Fusion, but if I were recommending a game for someone getting into the franchise, I’d tell them to go with Zero Mission because that experience will be closer to what they’d also experience in games like Super Metroid or Return of Samus.

Return of Samus and Samus Returns are closer to Fusion. Fusion's progression is based on Metroid 2 in fact. And the Prime games all have their progression based on Fusion except for Hunters. And then Other M is essentially Fusion in 3D. Really, the only games that even resemble the progression of Zero Mission are the original, Super, and Dread. Everything else had been based on Fusion, which was based on Metroid 2. However, I also agree that one should start with Zero Mission because the Metroid series has a lot of things that rely on one playing in chronological order and Zero Mission does a much better job of introducing new players to the franchise than Fusion; introducing new players was one of the priorities of Zero Mission as a game after all. In terms of what to expect from the franchise in general though, Fusion more accurately represents the vast majority of Metroid games. Zero Mission is more so an outlier along with Super and Dread. So depending on what you mean by "raw experience" Fusion may be the more raw experience.

Even without the leak I do think Zero Mission is all but confirmed to arrive on NSO Expansion Pack eventually. But the main question would be when. Nintendo did show a selection of future games to come, but currently the release schedule isn’t known. With GBA introduced in February, we’ve had one update at the beginning of March with 1 new game (being Fusion). It will remain to be seen, but if GBA becomes a monthly release of one game each, then the earliest we might get Zero Mission is August. Anyways, I do enjoy both a fair bit and played Fusion for the first time in awhile, but I personally prefer Zero Mission for its ways you can speed run and sequence break it. That same feeling is what had drawn me into Super Metroid and made it one of my top Metroid games.

Zero Mission has the best story of any Metroid because it’s, well, the origin story. It details the Chozo and space pirates more than any other in the series. Mechanically it’s the same as Fusion. But speaking of gameplay mechanics, for some reason I still feel Super Metroid is the most fluid, even more than Samus Returns and Dread; it’s the only Metroid you can change directions in mid air 7 times while aiming or prepping a grappling hook. The only game that comes close to this level of hilarious controllability is Symphony of the Night.

Both are Excellent! Though both do 'hold your hand' way to much. The map systems, in both of these games, are more than sufficient to navigate one's own way through, without having to be told where to go (which both titles do plenty of). I suspect all of the directional guides are implemented to consider the 'pick-up-and-play-for-short-bursts' nature of their originally being released as portable titles... at a time when 'save-states' were not a thing. Even so... there are ample 'Save-Stations' within each title in there original, playable forms. but I digress... While I love them both, I've always given the slight edge to 'Zero Mission.'

Lifelong Metroid fan here, zero mission has always been my #1 game up until dread came out, and even then I’m still hesitant to call dread better because zero mission is just so addicting to play

My gut is telling me that Metroid Prime 4 is around the corner, perhaps after the next two Prime remasters, and will be a grande finale for the metroid series. And honestly? I'd be okay with that, It's clear that by having Retro restart development they wanted it to be done right and giving the series a proper goodnight is more than I dared to hope for for a long time.

I really hope it’s true and we get zero mission soon. I still have my original gba copy but can’t play my gba because the screen is too dark to see and won’t get brighter. All this Metroid love lately has been great especially new fans playing fusion for the first time

Zero Mission is my favorite of the two but my opinion is also biased because of Nostalgia for the original. One of the first games I got for my NES Christmas 1987.

I kinda wish they'd remake Super Metroid in the same style as Dread. Thatd be SO sweet.

2D-HD remaster of Super Metroid. Something akin to the Pixel Remasters of Final Fantasy, with improved backgrounds, remastered music and sounds, keep controls the same.

Zero Mission because OG samus with the fully powered up gravity/plasma/ice beam combo will always be better than ice missiles or a separate weak af ice beam in my personal opinion.

I really want to play ZM and Fusion on my switch, but I know if I do I'll have to get the switch online expansion pass, and those 30 dollars a year just aren't worth it to me for games I can emulate. I'd gladly buy the ones I really like individually on the Eshop, and I'd gladly play them on the collections in regular switch online, but I aint doing the expansion pass.

Zero Mission is such a perfect little game, and a lesson on how to do a remake.

can you imagine playing an emulated NES Metroid on an already emulated Metroid: Zero Mission?
