Ingenious work. Reminds me of my father, a master mechanic for Volvo, who never wasted a piece of scrap metal, a piece of old wire, an old tire rims, alternators, everything. He had a use for everything [eventually]. He was always thinking about how to repair rather then replace. l appreciate your dedication to this craft with things that almost look impossible to do, looking at your first video of a hulk of the '57 coupe.

You are a rich man! Not money rich, but you are very humble and also you have a great family! That is as good as rich. Thanks Doug

The tank looks good. I think the most I ever got in the stock wagon tank was 18 gallons. That will be nice for cruises. Remember to also put a rubber liner above the tank so it doesn't rub and cause rust. Also, ground your tank and not just through the fuel line. People often forget to do that and don't get the fuel gauge working correctly. Here is a tip when you take down the headliner, mark your roof ribs. They need to be in the proper order to fit correctly.

That new fuel tank is a good move, no worries about dirt or corrosion in the fuel system once that part is fitted, looking good.

The day finally came for that gas tank! Also, for a duffer you draw pretty good. As a young man (40 years ago) I was an architect and can draw really, really good. A quick sketch is the perfect way to either study a situation or convey an idea to someone.

Nice work on the tank Doug, straps look good and I see that it’ll all work with the hidden gas filler door. It’s amazing that the roof is so good considering the shape of the metal elsewhere. Keep up the good work and friendly manner and I’ll keep watching! Ken

I've made fuel tank straps from the really wide heavy duty banding straps for a 1979 Malibu. They were still on the car when I sold it 7 years later.

I don't know about the 50s but I seem to remember my 60s cars used strips of heavy tar paper between the straps and tank.
@davecates913911 сағат бұрын
Instead of welding the nut to the floor, why not pass the bolt through the floor and weld it from the top ? That way, you don't have to worry about the bolt possibly being too long and interfering with the plywood and I believe it'll be easier when you're putting the tank up to slip the strap over the stud and start a nut than to try to line up the hole so you can start the bolt.
@johnjason720411 сағат бұрын
Doug do not forget to add a filler between the tank and the strap. The filler could be anything to cushion the rubbing.
@r.n.651511 сағат бұрын
Tank and straps are looking good but will you put anything on top of the tank to isolate the contact from tank to floor (or whatever is above the tank)?
@Hanlonsgarage10 сағат бұрын
Just wondering if those straps are tight enough 🤔 might need to shorten them a bit to tighten the straps, lots of weight when the tank is full, just my two cents Doug 😊

Are you going to weld a short 45 to the opening that goes above the top of the tank then rubberhose it to the filler spout? So when it's completely full it won't eat through an o ring just wondering,I know whatever you do it will be right sir, educate me please
