Forgotten 1957 Chevy - Will it Run and Drive After 30+ Years??

History : This 1957 Chevrolet model 150 was told to be restored in New York in 1987 with new paint, new interior and new white wall tires. It has a unknown history before 1987. It was then sold in 1988 and the new owner just drove it home and parked it 2-3 years in a garage, Then it was made a new copper fuel line to the carburetor and driven to a outdoor pit where it was cleaned with compressed air for sand and dirt in frame and undercarriage and sprayed under with a white spirit oil mix. The new carpet was found to be glued to the floor and under was rust holes covered up by plates and asphalt melt sheets done by the one who restored and sold it... The chevy was good looking but at the same time considered to be a project car and was not roadworthy so it was decided to store it for later, bodysafe wax was then applied on chrome and a thin layer of oil on paint, it was then driven to a better garage and parked over 30 years where this video starts. It has not had lisence plates for over 35 years, and never been washed or started since, the only maintenance done was filling air in tires only a few times... Believe it or not! But 2023 is here, and time has come to see what it will take to make it run again.

Hands down, my most favorite car ever! My Grandfather had a 5 door wagon that I wanted to fix up when I got old enough to. Unfortunately, it slowly rusted out in his back yard, and he sold it for parts. This one is in amazing shape! Wouldn't take much to bring it back to top form. 👍😁

Ahh, sweet memories. My Dad bought a brand new Chev Bel Aire 4 dr. sedan in June of 1957. It had a 283 V-8 with a 4 barrel carb. Oh how i loved that car. It had a "Sierra Gold and Beige" two tone paint job. What a beauty. Wish I had it now. But,...I do have a pristine 1967 Chev Caprice with a 350 cu in engine and auto transmission. Love it too. They just don't make 'em like that no more.

What a moron, too lazy to even take off the tires and free the brake drums. Any engine will run as long as it wasn't blown up before it was parked. The straight 6 engine was used in demo derby cars because it would run even with no water in it.

Pretty straight '57 150 into which someone has transplanted a BelAir interior. Adding BelAir trim to cheaper models was pretty normal "back in the day". My first car - around 1967 was a 210 4 door sedan, 235 cu in 6-banger, 3-on-the-tree. I added some BelAir trim to mine too. That was in the mountains of SW PA where lots of salt was used on the roads in the winter. I spent months combing junk yards for parts that weren't rusted out. No reproduction parts back then. Couldn't kill that old motor.. Sold the car when I got orders (Navy) to CA. Later, bought 3 BelAirs over the years. Sold the last one about 5 years ago. I miss it. BelAir 2 dr HT, 283 bored .060. Saginaw 4 spd. Colonial Cream with a white roof.

Sounded like there was a dead cylinder. Not surprising after 30 years of sitting. Good looking car despite the rusty floors. And the rubber nose belair front bumper over riders look interesting against the lack of trim on the 150's.

Should cut out entire floor and put a one piece pan in it. Probably couldn't get enough roofing tar off the floors to weld partial pans in. If that stuff caught on fire from grinding or welding it'd be too toxic to breathe. Other wise good. But, I wouldn't recommend revving a newly started engine like that. Give it enough rpm's to stay running & let the block warm up for a bit first.

Glad to see you working on that old car and getting it back running. Get you some new plugs points condenser wire distributor cap rebuild that carburetor at car run pretty good probably change that oil really good. I believe I would leave the paint like it is and put the original white wall tires back on it with the original hubcaps and ride it around. If you do any more videos on that car post on I'd like to see them. Great job brother.
