More on the PRO 100 and the PC42 SE inks!
I keep getting questions after questions on the PRO-100 transition to these new Precisiocolors Signature Edition inks for the PRO-100 so I hope I can clarify some of these points here.
Also will share something disturbing I found out about the PRO-1

Thanks Jose. As a newbie printer I still have a lot to learn, so many variables but I am confident I will eventually nail the colors spot on.

Hello Jose, you must have about the most important youtube channel on the planet! Seriously! I just recently found your channel and I have learned sooooo much. Thank you for that. My new Pro 100S just arrived today and I'll be playing with it over the weekend to set it up (correctly and according to your advise). I haven't decided yet if I will go down the OEM inks route or if I will go down the aftermarket inks. I have yet to understand what the costs are with the OEM inks. I watched this video out of curiosity and have a question: you mentioned not to run the first carts until they are empty. Instead, let them run half way and then replace them with a set of PC42 SE inks. What will you do then with those half empty cartridges? Thanks, Pascal
@cheo1949

All I mean is that if you are going to switch to PC42SE to get a set of already processed carts and save your OEM carts AFTER you've learned to print and store them. for future use. But first LEARN the process so you can do it as I say pretty much blind folded. It should be as natural as breathing.

Jose, I left town for a year. I unplugged the pro-100 before I left. now that I'm back in town I'm going to order precision colors ink and start refilling. what should I do before I fire this bad boy up? put new carts in and run nozzle check?
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. New carts. It will run a large auto cleaning cycle. Follow that with nozzle check and pray. If it's good then you are set. Do an Auto printhead alignment. If it's not perfect let it sit for a few hours. Run a nozzle check and compare it to the previous one. If there is improvement or a different pattern, repeat and rest. Hopefully eventually you should be at100%.

Bought the Pro-100 last week and so far the images are stunningly good. I’ll eventually get a set of the precision inks once I get used to the printer more. Thanks for making all these videos and giving us info on the Pro-100. I recommend this printer to all but mostly if you are starting out in pro printing. The deals are ridiculous in the U.S. I’m in Canada and got it for $300 cdn which is about $200 U.S. funds.

Jose, I would like to recomend you to make a video on refilling an already modified set of cli-42s. What I mean with this is that we already know how to flush and refill a flushed cartridge but when we refilling a cartridge that has been refilled at least once before, the look of the sponge is a little different than a freshly flushed one. The average beginner will love to see it.
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 5 жыл бұрын
I don't really see why. You just top off when the cart is declared low or just before. The sponge will still be properly saturated. Any time beyond that and the sponge will lose ink and air will enter. I mean You will just be adding like 7-8ml max to fill the now almost empty or just empty chamber. There is nothing special about the second or subsequent refills.
@sirmightymoose
@sirmightymoose 5 жыл бұрын
@@cheo1949f I might be so bold, when the printer says the cart is LOW, this will usually be the point at which there is no more ink left on the fill side and the BEST time to refill. Take cartridge out, put on a storage clip (or tape or band on the original clip), run the cart through your resetter FIRST, pull out your rubber stopper and at an angle to the ink bottle (as Jose has shown in the videos) put the needle into the cart fill hole. Now turn the cart back to a vertical position and slowly inject ink into the fill side until it reaches 75 to 85% full. Wait until it stops going down on the fill side and reaches your maximum. Don't overfill, it needs some air on the top of the fill side. Put your rubber stopper back on and either put back in printer or store on shelf depending on whether you had another full cart to replace this one with. I hope I have made you proud Jose.

Doug Lamdin Hi Jose. My question is concerning the Pro-100 and switching back and forth between carts with third party inks and carts with OEM ink where the OEM carts are partly full or empty. Do you have to reset the partly full OEM carts before inserting which I'm assuming will be registered as full and you will have to rely on the exposed prizm to trigger a low cart warning or don't reset and the OEM carts will register ink level as they were before switching to the third party ink set. Thanks in advance for your reply.
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 5 жыл бұрын
Do not reset the OEM carts. You want them to reflect the actual volume left in them. Unless you go and reset those chips they will be read as whatever a level they were before you removed them. You Only reset your CARTs you are refilling with 3rd party ink. You remove a cart when it is LOW you reset and you fill it and you are done. If you mean to print using both OEM and 3rd party inks and I assume you have a reason for that, then you never EVER reset your OEM carts until you decide to modify them and turn then into refillable carts to be filled with 3rd party inks. There is NO source for Bulk OEM CANON Dye Inks.

I've been using the PCSE inks, with the cartridges from the Ebay source, for 4 days now and can say they are *fantastic* and if anything they are slightly *more* vibrant than the OEM inks. Loving it. Next up is a second set of flushed cartridges from your favorite Ebay guy. (I elected to keep my OEM cartridges stored, capped with the full-size clips I ordered with the PCSE kit, since they were all more than half-full.)

Jose, what is your recommendation for this situation? I am currently happily using PCinks with two sets of modified cartridges. However, I have several sets of OEM inks from "free" Paper Sale Promotions. What would be the safest way to switch back to OEM? (Eventually, the additional OEM carts will be modified for the new PC SE inks.) Would two cleaning cycles be enough to flush residual inks from the lines? (Especially the Yellow)
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 5 жыл бұрын
Nothing to worry about, once you switch over to OEM the printer will run it's own purge cycle which is normal after any single or multiple cart change. If you are worried then run one normal cleaning cycle but only choose "Group 1 " which contains the YELLOW Channel and three other colors. so you do not waste ink from other channels.

Thank you for your wisdom, Jose. Based on what you said about selling prints, would you not recommend using PC inks? I sell prints with my own designs and after buying a set on Amazon (supposedly OEM), I noticed that my prints were coming out duller, even though I hadn't changed any settings (I print graphic art on Illustrator). I'm looking for an affordable solution and came across your channel.
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't. Though their color matching is near 100% to oem, the longevity is about 10% but that's the same as ANY other third party dye ink. I don't think your customers would not appreciate that.

I just found your videos on KZbin and like what I have seen so far. I think I will look further into using the Precision Colors Ink. I have had my Pro 100 printer for about 3 years now and have always used the CLI-42 ink from Canon. I had heard about the Precision Color inks; but, was not sure how they performed, so I stayed with Canon's inks. I don't print often; so, my ink lasts a long time. However, I am starting to print more of my images lately... Jose, you seem to compare the Precision Colors ink to Canon OEM ink. May I ask, what is OEM ink? Is it something other than the CLI-42 that came with the printer? Thanks.
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 4 жыл бұрын
The term OEM means original manufacturer's equipment and it's always use in reference to like I said original Ink, Paper, Oil, Gas, Parts, whatever.

If it is not Photo Paper for Inkjet printers you will not have the penetration of the inks and they will smear. It MUST be Inkjet Coated paper such as CANON Pro Luster for instance. If you use such a paper you have perfect performance. As far of longevity or endurance goes...no ONE single third party ink can compare to CANON OEM.

Order the ready to use empties. Save you a head ache. When you are ready and feel you can print accurately without even thinking then remove tbe OEM and store them for a rainy day. Load the freshly filled modified carts and enjoy.
