I was a late eighties teenager with spikey blond hair, wearing a leather jacket, ripped jeans and black leather boots with skull buckles on them. But, every Christmas, Johnny Mathis had my heart.

My dudes/dudettes... Late 1980s? Nonono... ripped-up-in-the-knees-shredded-close-to-our-no-no parts, and under-the-bum, bleach spotted denims (mine were Gasoline and Guess brands) were worn in 1984. I also tie-dyed white denim and white cotton trousers and thigh-high mini-skirts. Gen Xers were living MONSTROUSLY large . We were the most unique generation of "fast fashion".

What a nice interview. Mr. Mathis is so humble and grateful. It's lovely to hear how his parents were so important in his pursuit of music. ❤ As a teen in the late 70's/ early 80's, I would listen to a Canadian AM station in my '73 Comet. Of course they played Johnny Mathis. I know so many of his songs and the nuances of his voice.

Thank you for showing this interview with Johnny Mathis again. My two favorite male singers ever are Johnny and Andy Williams. Both of them and Sinatra, Bing& Perry were the tops for me. Today most singers are not capable of reproducing a sound similar to their studio recordings on a live stage. Without electronic assistance they have very little that is relatable. The only singer today who can deliver the warm, emotional feelings of these older classics is Angelina Jordan. She is 18 years old, from Norway and is actually better live! She won Norways Got Talent at 8 years old and can sing, Sinatra, Williams, Adel, A Winehouse, and Elvis! No computer enhancements needed. She just did a Christmas concert in LA a week ago

A few of his early hits, including “Chances Are” and “It’s Not For Me To Say”, were backed by Ray Conniff And His Orchestra.
