I really appreciate your honest opinion on this matter. I bought my 1st E-Bike in 2017 and immediately started modifying my URB-E PRO GT folding E-bike as I was bored with a 13 MPH top speed. Shunt Mods have been around for many years. I figured why bother for mid torque upgrade with almost NO top speed gain. The Freedom E-Bikes have a ton of torque for a 26 inch tired E-Bike. Thank you for your time to test these alternatives.

I'm thinking about a 72v 6500 peak watt kit 80 amp controller, using a couple 25ah batteries on the Kepler platform. Huge rear rack should handle a big bag of goodies. Not sure what to do with the 52V battery. Just leave it for looks I guess. A $3,500 Kepler that goes over 50 mph sounds good to me.

Would I like to know is on some of the older radrunner bikes they have upgrade kits to 35 amps. I'm fairly certain that the original controllers were 18 amp controllers. I'm fairly certain that the batteries only had like a 20 amp discharge rate. So how did they do it?
@maximumchargeEV11 ай бұрын
Need confirmation on that battery discharge level.
@trsdamocles11 ай бұрын
@maximumchargeEV can't exactly confirm but what I could find is the radrunner has a 48v 14ah battery and I think a 18 Amp controller. Weak.
@trsdamocles11 ай бұрын
@maximumchargeEV my experience has shown on three different ebikes that companies don't go much more on discharge rate than rated output. Senada had 28a controller, 30a discharge(21ah). Smrlo awd had 27a between 2 controllers and 50a discharge(23ah). Wallke has 28a controller and 30a discharge(40ah).
@Mark_Maguire8 ай бұрын
Very interesting to learn how the battery blender works. I have one connecting two 48v batteries, one has a 30A BMS, the other is 25A. I didn't know that they split the draw from the each battery's BMS. I was worried that if I put a 30 - 35 amp controller in [stock is 22a], that the BMS might shut down. Good info, thanks.
@massterrbarber4 ай бұрын
Well I would think on top of the soldering if soldering to get the controller more torque not just the 4 Staples you have squeezed together and soldered you get more torque with your set up when soldering to secure then thermal paste to protect the controller from heating up and the MOSFETs already have thermal paste to protect the heat exhaustion from breaking and I'm not even sure cause I saw a video on this and I am not an electrician and right now it would come in handy that is why I am trying to figure out if what you did in your video could apply me.
@maximumchargeEV4 ай бұрын
Well the mosfets are already connected to an aluminum heatsink, which then connects via the top screws to the exterior of the controller which is all aluminum and acts like a heatsink. They added thermal paste there already actually so you're on the right track!

If you want to keep the heat dissipated in your motors, just add statorade to the magnets of your motors and heat sink blades. They will run nice and cool. Luck!
@VEGITAS411 ай бұрын
Statorade? Is that like Gatorade…for e-bikes?
@maximumchargeEV10 ай бұрын
I did look into that but it seems like I won't need either one because it just isn't getting very hot. I also hear statorade doesn't age well and you have to add it in every year or so and it makes a mess in your motor. I probably won't need it but if I do I'll add it.
@suckaphish833 ай бұрын
I've tried statorade, and while the concept is sound, the main problem with it is that it's a water based liquid and evaporates quite quickly. I ended up with my motor all gunked up with significant drag from friction against the leftover ferrous silt.

Why does the law say you have to have pedals and limited to 28mph? I would think you would be less of a traffic hazard if you're able to keep up with traffic. I am in a rural area and to leave my house, you have to ride about 3 miles on a 2-lane state highway with a speed limit of 55mph (meaning traffic is running 60+) before you can take a side road to go anywhere. I would love to have one of these and ride to work, but I'll get run over if I'm doing 28mph (although cyclists do ride their bikes out here during the summer - stupid).

I thought a "shunt mod" was putting a second resistor in series with the amperage sensing resistor to fool it into seeing less amperage. Those looked like fusable links in line with either the power in or out cable. You probably only got that boost because more amperage was able to get through the circuit not that the circuit was outputing more current.

No, you should 100% fine blending the batteries. The blender will pull from the highest charged battery ( the tank battery) first, just like stock. When it drops down to the voltage of your other battery, it will pull from both.

@maximumchargeEV3 ай бұрын
Now the stock go bikes go about 45. They are a nominal 63. Typically to go over 50 you need 72v. Single motor ebikes do not go 40+ at 52. I have several of them and even the dual motor bikes at 52v just barely reach 40mph. Lots of that depends on the type of motors, how many motors, and the windings of the motors. In theory I can make a 36v system go 100mph.
