I had an experience when I was about 22-23 that really stuck with me. My friend and I were at the bougie mall in my city, and he wanted to go in a boutique that carried designer bags. I'd never set foot in a place like that, no one in my family had anything designer and I couldn't afford a single thing in the shop. But he was asking the saleswoman (who was also the owner) about a certain bag, and she said, "Well, I'm not carrying any Chanel bags at the moment because the quality's just not there this season...." As a 22-year old, this blew my mind. I was of the mindset of "Chanel is Chanel!" and for the woman to set her own bar above that--to judge an item based on quality, not a designer name--was a real eye-opener for me. Of course it seems obvious now, but when I was 22, it hadn't occured to me. This happened around 1990-1991, by the way.

I have studied economics, people tend to think the higher the price the better the quality, in fact it's an inverse relationship, meaning if you put quality on the X axis and price on the Y, the higher the price will equal higher quality only till a point, after which every price increase doesn't correlate with any quality increase, in plain English you're not paying to receive a premium product, you're paying for brand name only, yet people are so fond of funding the salaries of luxury fashion houses executives...and they're paying their regular employees shitty salaries also.

I bought the HCCxDUYP collab medium pochette in camel brown and received it recently. Have to say that the pochette quality is just like what others talked about; soft leather of very good quality and a nice touch, yet reasonably priced. It looks great with a gold chain strap too.

I purchased my one and only Chanel, Chanel 19. I was hoping to dip my toe into the brand since I do love the aesthetics but as these prices, I’m good. With quality issues and now prices, it’s not worth it, to me, to spend that amount. I watched your video about how you’re thinking of getting rid of some bags that you loved using but aren’t as much now. I have been there before and I found if I wait, no time limit that I will come back to bags that I really love. I’ve not used a bag for a whole year but when I’ve had the itch to buy new, I check my closet for some oldies that I forgot about. It feels like a whole new bag!! I’ll wear it non-stop and be glad I’m not buying new. All fashion is recycled at some point. Enjoy the season you’re in, they all come back around! 😂❤

This was a great video, thank you. I’m your age and bought most of my bags about 10-15 years ago and have not purchased a designer bag since probably 2015. My mother who collected Fendi baguettes back in the day gave me all of hers (I’ve kept 2 or 3) and those will be fun bags for my daughter- but other than that, I’m so over the price increases and declining quality! I’m so glad I bought all my classics when I did! I’d never spend that kind of money now despite being better off financially. I’d rather have 10k in my wallet than on my shoulder. Silly, crazy times we live in.

Thanks for this video. Am I the only one who has noticed a major flaw in the classic flap. I have seen many ladies carrying this bag. The flaw is this, because the chain strap is attached to top of the flap, over time, carrying this bag over the shoulder or cross body (or whichever way it is carried) the chain actually pulls the leather of the flap, such that the gap on the flap, (between the flap and the body of the bag on both the end sides) widens over time and the bottom of the bag sags. This should not happen on an expensive bag like this. One might say, don’t use the bag often, but it’s an expensive bag, you want to have good use out of it. Needless to say, I don’t own a flap. I don’t want to buy an expensive bag that goes south over time from use.

If brands thinks affordability ruined the exclusivity aspect of luxury brand, I think they are wrong. They cheapened themselves when they started aggressively gifting social media influencers. Result of “everyone has it”, is because that’s precisely what they did with this marketing tactic. I think we are at a point where it’s stupid to spend that much money on bags… especially canvas pieces.

I’m so glad I bought my Speedy B25 in 2021. Australia price increase happened on the 1st and it went from $2310 (which was still quite expensive for me) to $2650 and now it’s $2850! It's crazy, right?! It's bad enough that when in crowded spaces we must be aware of our goods and money and passports, etc. But now! We must now use caution when wearing certain bags. I rarely travel with my Chanel gals. I was just in Germany, and I took only two small pre-loved Fendi bags on the trip. My Fendi's are very subtle and non-recognizable.

Im so glad i got my Speedy DE 25 in Feb 2023 for $1490. I fell in love with the NeoNoe in the Nautical print so I purchased that and purchased the new monogram cosmetic pouch GM and the Monogram Vanity Nice Nano and used them both as the bag hacks I saw on youtube and love it! only bag on my Wishlist for a while (I think) is the Loewe small puzzle. I don't think I'll be getting any other ones, especially not new. This was such an enjoyable video as I also own all of the LV & Chanel bags you mentioned (some in different leathers & colors). I’m in Australia & once the price of a classic flap hit $10K, I decided I wouldn’t be buying any more. They are now $15,710 for the m/l & even more for the jumbo. It’s ridiculous! I think the only bag out of those you mentioned which I’d consider purchasing at the current price would be the Pochette Métis (empriente is $4200 here), because I think it’s the BEST bag. However, as I already own it in 3 different colors, there’s thankfully no need to get another. 😂 Am just enjoying what I have and only buying preloved now.

Hehe yeah, they line up when you look at the bag straight on but whenever I hold the bag up to film at certain angles, it looks off. Also, this is the single flap version so it doesn’t have as much structure as the double flap. I still prefer this version as it’s lighter weight and easier access to get in and out. Hope this helps!

The ever so increasing Asian market who notoriously bulk buy from collections. The U.S. market is struggling as the recession is upon us, so they are pricing out the aspirational customer bc they don’t need them anymore nor like them as those are the people who use a bag or two repeatedly and don’t buy enough or they inspect the bag more for flaws. the 500k-m/billionaire and up income customers use these bags a few times and they stay in storage. Chanel /LVMH knows we are now in the Gilded ages lol I really do not think there is a limit. CF could go up to 50k eventually

Clients that buy each season and all across the board. So not just bags. Clients that buy every 3-4 months for about 5-8000€. And everything over. Clients that know about Chanel, the stories they tell per collection etc...That you know what the brand stands for, what certain pieces stand for. That's the clients that they want.
