Heaven and hell in the space of 60 seconds is a perfect description of surfing ☯️

I grew up surfing on the East Coast USA in similarly dredging, hollow beachbreak. I remember a mental tip that always helped me with the commitment thing - If a bomb comes and you're in the spot, deciding "one way or another, I'm going to end up at the bottom of this wave. No way this thing breaks and I'm still up here". Making that decision really helps with throwing yourself over the ledge haha

Epic tip mate!! I'll remember that next time I'm paddling into a wave all scared haha!!

Love your videos. They are such a good and efficient mix of rawness, helpful tips and showing all aspects, not just a false perfection like a lot of other channels.

Sounds like you've watched brett barley's barrel riding tutorials. They made a huge difference in my make rate. Cheers man, keep scoring 🤙🏼

Amazing barrell rider Brett Barley. Great guy to learn from for sure!

That is a good breakdown on learning to get tubed. It is counterintuitive for the average surfer to take off behind the peak, and head the opposite direction they have been before---to get under the peak, not out race the wave, and get tubed. You are right, that is a big jump for the average surfer, and a big step to becoming more advanced. No, it isn't easy. Nice job. 👍

Love your down to earth vids. Love the honesty and there's clearly a surf addiction which we can all relate too.

Great video! I was there in 2007 and 2010. I remember surfing that spot on a 6'6 because i kept airdropping and/ or nosediving on my flatter 5'11. Boards were a bit different back then, but once I jumped on the 6'6, which was massive for me(im 5'8 150 lb), but the extra volume allowed me to get in super early and I got a couple hundred barrels over the course of a few days. It was maybe stomach to shoulder and just reeling. Surfed with two guys from Nova Scotia and really scored. Very happy memory. Heading to the Ments for 6 months after working nonstop as a bricklayer for years. Got the quiver set up and am looking forward to it. This will be my 4th trip there, but havent been since 2018. Anyway, I really enjoy your content and hope you enjoy Santa Teresa. I love that place. Travel safe and enjoy!

That session looked so sick, no one out, hollow waves to yourself. Those are the days to look back on decades from now. Have fun in Costa Rica, Playa Grande across the river from Tamarindo was my favorite wave if you get a chance to surf there. Keep up the videos!

Amazing how many times Ive followed an amazing wave with a horrific wipeout! 😬🤦🏻♂️🤣 Some of the best tubes of my life have been followed by major, serious wipeouts. Broken board and body at times. It’s a hard lesson to learn. You gotta reset sometimes after a really good wave, or the ocean bites back. As soon as you think you can do anything and lose the respect, it goes wrong. Well. That’s been my experience. The yin and yang of the ocean 🙏🏻

To pick up a skill in surfing, I've found I have to go through some mental cues and just repping it out till I get it. Got any cues/keywords you're going through in your head when you're knifing into these and was there an evolution to them as you've progressed? I was in Santa Teresa about a month ago and it was stellar. Consistent waves in the early am and sunset, warm water, and just enough space that you could find a peak without it being too crowded (though I definitely had to give a bunch up to the locals). Hope your trip goes well sir!

Completly unrelated to this vid: can you surf lowers on a low period swell? It is 4ft at 7seconds. I'm going out anyway but I'm just trying to get myself exited about it :)

@@DanHarmon123 Yeah, it was decent but more peaky (worth it because I scored it with 10 other people because of the rain). Thanks for the help!
