This video is another compilation of a number of good collectible tools that I've had in the past month or so. There are a couple you may be familiar with and a couple of rare ones as well. Lots of great info in this one.
My video on bitstocks and bits.

It boggles the mind that files and rasps were made by hand. I knew that, but seeing the actual tool that was used is amazing. Thanks for sharing your tools and knowledge with us.

Thanks. I would love to find a file cutter's hammer, but they are very scarce. What really boggles my mind, is that the journeymen file cutters, were making these by the 100's every day, they got paid by the piece and not very much at that..

Gave it a thumbs up for content. It was all very informative. However, please invest (even if it is a cheapo brand) a small table top tripod for your camera. It is so unsettling to watch the image wonder all over when it could be so easily solved by a tripod, thus giving you BOTH hands to handle the tools and show how it was actually used back in the day.

I do have tripods, small and large. The problem is that where I've been shooting these videos of late, that there isn't enough room there for either of them. I did a lot of my earlier videos out on my workbench, but that is currently piled up with "incoming" and I do need to get it cleaned off a bit. I have done some demo vids in the past as well. Since all of the tools that I featured in this video were sold, I didn't want to risk doing any damage to them. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

I think that group of tools you show were bought on eBay. They were shown in another video and told what you paid for them. You got a really good deal!

Howdy. I didn't get anything off of eBay, it's been a while since i did any buying for resale on there. It's been a while since i made this video, I'll have to rewatch it and see what's what (I sell a lot of stuff and it's hard to keep track of).

Great video & info. Definitely most of the Early Tools are found back in Eastern US New England region over into Ohio. Some of Those tools don’t turn up way out west🇺🇸

Can you please explain how the hand vice was used with a brace? I am missing something & can't wrap my head around it.
@olderiverhardgoods
@olderiverhardgoods Ай бұрын
Well I doubt that it was, unfortunately there is little in documentation on these guys around. My thoughts are, that it was used to hold the head in a vise so that you would have both hands free to work the item being held. Traditionally that's how hand vises were used for the most part. But again. that's just a somewhat educated guess. Thanks!

You are talking about the Whitcher Crispen pattern hammers which have the Whitcher patent patterned faces. On those the peen sits down rather than out. These guys are just regular ones. Thanks.

@@BrianRust89 Well about 5 years ago, a friend of mine who was a long time collector of hand forged axes, decided to downsize his collection and gave me first shot. I must have gotten 50 of them from him, but they are pretty much all sold except a couple that have some serious damage. They are still buried out there in one of the piles.
