I have a different take on it and I believe it means "the spirit of the bear owns ME" Think of it in the context of a berserker? The spirit of the animal took over the person.

I agree will you. A toy or trinket. A tag could just be a flat plain piece of wood. Someone took time and effort to carve that into “something” rather meaningful. 🐺
