If Russia attacks it will do it from 7 directions. Starting north in a clockwise direction. Labeled 1 to 6. 1 A spearhead from SE Belarus through Gomel region. Obj. A blocking force west of Kiev. 2. A spearhead from Bryanck region sw bypassing Chernigov. Obj. Kiev. 3. Spearhead south from Belgorod region towards bypassing Kharkhov. Obj. Isolate Kharkov. 4. Spearhead west from the area north of Donbass territory. Obj. Blocking force against Ukraine forces west of Donbas occupy Izyum link with 3. 5. From Rostov region striking west and south and with the Donbas militias striking west. Obj. Force Ukr forces back towards Dneipre. 6. Amphibious landings along the Sea of Azov. Obj. Blocking force east of the Perekop Isthmus 7. Crimean forces strike north and nw. Obj. Secure east bank of Dneipre to Dneipre Petrovsk. NW spearhead takes Odessa and points further north. Airforce and missile forces will dominate the air and assist where needed. Airborne used mainly in the north to set up blocking/envelopment positions as needed. Possible air assault on Kharkov and Kiev airports. All Ukrainian military infrastructure will be hit. All aircraft defences will be hit.

While Europe is bolstering its troops far from the conflict, Putin is giving himself the option of cutting off Ukrainian forces, facing Donbass, from behind. So basically if the Ukraine forces make gains in Donbass Russian regulars will surround them.

That said, we won't put troops into Ukraine because it would be used as an excuse by putin. This isn't our first rodeo, we've demolished the USSR before without firing a shot and will do it again if putin doesn't wise up.

The resolution is really bad I can only make out a few of them. I see that the first 2 vehicles are 2k22 Tunguska's Short-range tracked anti-air vehicles. I also see 2 BTR-80s or BTR-82s an 8 wheeled armored personnel carriers. These could be the command vehicles based on the BTR-80 platform. 1 UAZ-452 van this might be an ambulance. A bunch of Kamaz-5350 Trucks half of them have fluid tanks (Kamaz ATsPT5.6). I don't know what the other tracked vehicles are. I guess these are a type of tracked medium-range Anti-Air vehicles some of them might be recovery vehicles or they could be something entirely different. So I guess it's an Anti-Air unit.

Ignoring the distraction about NATO membership and time-of-flight of missiles, Russia's biggest security interest in Ukraine is the water supply need by Crimea. Donbass is a poverty stricken area in a poor region. But Crimea has the potential of being a city-state that survives the demographic collapse of Russia itself. But to do so, it needs enough of a hinterland to provide it water.

The West should suggest that Ukraine etc become Associate members of NATO instead of full members, so no NATO military hardware of personel would be near Russias border. It’s not what Putin wants, or the West, but would be a compromise that would show the world that security was being offered. Associate NATO membership would mean if Ukraine etc were attacked they would be fully supported, but not unless an invasion is possible or if attacked in any way.

If I were to guess, the US deterred Russia's initial invasion plans by stating the dates Russia would invade; hence the reason why "extended military drills" and more tanks and troops moving to the area.
