Tips for plasma....get a drag nozzle so you can drag the tip on the metal. Also, use a straight edge as a guide to drag your tip up against.

EMILY!! - and A-A-Ron I fully understand the desire to keep as much 60+ year-old Chevrolet metal as possible. BUUUUUUT, I would without hesitation replace the entire trunk pan. Stronger, easier, more continuity as well as ascetically pleasing, and it'll allow for a big fuel tank/cell as well. That spare tire tub always looked goofy to me from under the vehicle. My vote: FULL PAN!!

Yes guys, undercoat it! Sound dampening is the best!!! And besides, it's the underside and only the road will see it!!! :) As for the plasma cutter, I've always tried to find a piece of scrap metal to put next to what I was cutting and let the torch follow it to make the cut straight as possible, kind of like using a ruler to draw a line. Piece the trunk in, unless you feel like replacing the whole thing!

Absolutely replace the whole trunk pan. Not as bad as your thinking. It's just because you havnt done it before. Also, Put seam sealer all the way around the weld on your floor pan and spread it with your finger. It's a good idea to replace all the seam sealer under the floor. Believe me there's alot of it. I just finished replacing the entire floor from kick panel to rear valance in my 56 210 in my opinion its always better to replace the whole thing . After I got the entire floor done and I put the mini tub kit in mine I used tintable Raptor liner and spray the entire underside including inside the fender wells front and rear then I did the inside floor including the trunk and then I put Kilmat down also .I'm going to put kilmat every where roof floor inside the doors behind the kick panels before carpet and headliner and the rest of the interior. I've done this on my 68 charger and my 32 Tudor sedan and they are amazingly quiet and it helps with the HVAC also .

The Heat Shield was in the front foot wells and where the exhaust was plumbed. The also used a Lizard Skin Undercoating. They did a comparison of before and after for sound. It was amazing how solid the Lizard Skin made the car sound.

@jasonfalk76962 күн бұрын
I'd replace the entire pan, especially since you want to ditch the spare tire well. If there's factory bracing that you're removing, you can tack in a brace running diagonally across from all 4 corners. After the pan is replaced, just remove it and grind it smooth. That should keep it square. If the factory bracing is staying, the rear of the car shouldn't move.

@jd4404 күн бұрын
I would have media blasted the whole underside. Replace everything thats rusted. Use apot weld cutter bits to break the spot welds that the floors attach to the bracing. There is a guy on youtube, "make it kustom". Hes based out if Canada, and his channel is filled with fantastic tricks and very useful information about mig and tig welding and hiw to manipulate the metal to do what you want it to do. This kid welds stuff together like ive never seen before. Also, from what ive licked u, when welding, its essential to not wrld a full seam at one time. Do small sections and skip around. This will keep the metal from getting to hit and warping. About the lizard skin....the underside and interior floor should be prepped. I would go with 40/60 grit sand paper, and get it down to bare metal. Finish it off with 120/240. Then use wax and grease remover, let it dry, then spray the sound deadener. There are teo types. One that reaista heat, the ither is for sound. the one that resists heat, has to be laid down first before the sound deadener does. Doing the whole underside, and interior floor all the way from the top of the firewall to the trunk, will help to seal the whole car up.

Replace the entire trunk. Do NOT precut for wider inner-wheel wells. Doing this will save you time in the long run with lining up trunk, quarters, and rear skirt. Cut for tubs after everything is in, or you will find you can't get it all to line up together. If done right, you can achieve a factory look.😊
