The wild ass is indeed a donkey Its actually the ancestor of domesticated donkeys, and they're very critically endangered

Yes, but I'm pretty sure the ancestor of the domestic donkey is the Nubian wild ass (a closely related subspecies) and not the Somali. Domestic donkeys lack the stripes on their legs, like the Nubian wild ass.

It used to be believed that there were two domestication events (from the Somali wild ass and the Nubian wild ass), but the latest genetic evidence does suggest that only the Nubian wild ass is the ancestor. Although I do want to point out that it's entirely possible for an equine descended from an ancestor with striped legs to lose their stripes over time, as that is probably also what happened to horses. The ancestral horse was most likely dun according to scientists, and the dun gene is what causes the striped legs in some equines. In my genetics course in college we learned about how even just the act of domestication can alter the phenotype of the species that is being domesticated. See the Russian silver fox experiment, for example. Some research came out after I was no longer in college that suggested that wild animals living in close proximity to humans without actually being domesticated can start to exhibit typical "symptoms" of domestication, such as piebaldism. It's related to the way the neural crest forms in the embryo and the way the cells migrate, and the same processes that lead to more domestic behaviors also have the side effect of causing white spotting. That's the same thing that happened in the Russian silver fox experiment. Another more well-known example of how completely different conditions/features can have the same developmental cause within the neural crest is how blue-eyed white cats and dogs are more likely to be deaf. In this case, the way the pigment cells migrate is related to the way the ear forms, despite one being just a color pattern and the other being a medical condition. Sorry for the long post. my local zoo has a pair of sand cats and they are the cutest, fluffiest little creatures. they might just be extra cute idk, but to me the frontier model is closer to irl than the pics from google images 😅

I'm totally with you: I like the animals and think the designs are great, but the DLC itself seems like a step-back in the history of the game. There is nothing that adds something new to the gaming experience, especially getting the snake in the normal exhibit box is a bit disappointing. If it would at least be a chameleon, I wouldn't have anything against getting an old exhibit box instead of an animal for the WTE, but besides the fact this are only animals from African deserts and most of them are ungulates bothers a bit. On the other side it gives me hope that in the future there may be also packs again that feature only South American animals 🙂
