♛ Find the Ponziani Opening variations shown in the video in this blog-post - chess-teacher.com/learn-ponzi...
This is a quick chess opening crash course by GM Igor Smirnov on the Ponziani Chess Opening, which arises after the following moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.c3. White plays c3 to prepare for an immediate 4.d4, aiming to establish a strong center.
The Ponziani Opening is one of the oldest and most underrated chess openings. Filled with deadly traps at almost every move, it allows White to get a winning position in just 8 moves in one of the most frequently played lines.
Watch the full video lesson as GM Smirnov explains all the variations of the Ponziani Opening, including Black's most common responses: 3...Nf6, 3...Bc5, 3...d6, and 3...d5.

I can't decide if it's good or bad that I'm starting to hear Igor's voice in my head when I play... When he starts saying "Why are you playing chess, go chase little old ladies" I'll start to worry

16:10 You said after ...Qxf4, white plays Qxc6+ winning an exchange. Why doesn't white play Bxf7+ and win a queen for two bishops?

I saw that too. Because at the end you trading two bishops for rook in the corner and a pawn. But if you check with bishop first you trade bishops for a pawn and the queen in the open!!!

You dont need an engine to see that. When igor gave the position at first i thought he was going to show bf7. When he did the rook fork i said wtf?

indeed. I just checked the engine, and it says Bxf7+ is the only winning move there with +4.6. Qxc6+ is -1.2, it gives the advantage back to black.

At 16.13, if queen took the bishop, isn't Bxf7+ a stronger idea? win the queen for 2 bishops. That was my immediate idea when I saw your bishop move. Am I missing something? I am not GM like you, just 2000 ish

IT's not even winning the rook. If you go for the rook, you loose the Bishop on C4 and black has a winning position!

I feel like I am about to embarrass myself here, but at 1:40 why can't black play Qxg5 to get king out of check? I know then white plays Bxg5 to take Queen but surely it's an option to look at? The queen isn't the be all and end all in Every game. Ok, now you can all yell at me 🙈😂🤣

"Win rate for white" is meaningless unless you show us which types of games and rating levels you've filtered for in the Lichess database. Nothing wrong with you teaching this, but there is something wrong when you don't explain to beginners how dubious these gambits are. They will not work against advanced players.
@vaderx2000
@vaderx2000 27 күн бұрын
I see this complaint a lot with Igor and I don’t think you and other people realize that you can search for the average rating yourself. It takes 30 seconds and it’s easy to do on lichess. Obviously people won’t always play exactly as Igor did in this video, but take everything he says with a grain of salt and realize he’s a GM giving lessons for FREE targeted at beginner and intermediate players.

Firstly I take videos like this as a learning experience that provides an opportunity for you to improve, learn, and see Chess at a deeper level. Then maybe you can take some of that logic and apply it to a game, and even if you lose, you've tried something different and hopefully you've learned something from it and if it improves your game, even better! And leave the advanced stuff that you need to remember for later, just learn the early game traps though, that will help any newbie out immensely! 😊

Igor at 16:10 you have a better move of bf7 check because you can get the black queen on f4. You will have traded two bishops for a pawn and a queen. Whereas your line you ttaded two bishops for a pawn and a useless rook in the corner which isnt even winning.
