Exactly it has nothing to do with rights of maori, it's to have the principals seymour has proposed into law. I'm not sure if the protesters realize that principals can be added and changed unless those principals are put into law . I think as a nation we have more to worry about than a principals bill being passed in parliament without most of mps support. And before it comes into law if it pass and nz gets a referendum on it that's when you protest so nz will vote to oppose it. What I worry about as it shows what majority maori and non maori are missinformed .

Fact - Maori are not indigenous to New Zealand. They arrived in canoes the same as the rest of us "New Zealanders." The Maori Chiefs begged the Governor to sign a treaty that would bring all the parties together and save them from a tribal history of war, slavery and cannibalism. As unsavory and un-PC as this may sound, it's the truth and one only has to read Michael King's best selling book 'The History of New Zealand' to understand what really happened. This march is representative of a reverse racist culture in which the 'colonials' are blamed for everything, except the greatness the Treaty afforded to the Maori people. Most Maori in New Zealand understand this and detest the stance of the radical left March Organisers to diminish the valuable contribution both cultures have made to a great country. God bless New Zealand and all its people,,, one people, one country, one flag.

Let me get this straight. Under affirmative action Maori have preferential access to land resources and several spots in public sector and education. Now they are saying they are getting "attacked" because other New Zealanders want equal access to those same goods. Gotcha
@damojames9745 сағат бұрын
No you haven't got that straight. Maori don't have preferential access to land, the crown does. Maori have (had) land, the crown gets first and only option of Maori land sales. Maori have no first option and are often not even considered. Maori leased large tracts of land to the govt, which the govt has decided are 'perperual leases' meaning they're able to lease the land indefinitely whilst also never having the rent increased. Maori loaned large tracts of land for the war effort in WW1 and WW2, most of which was not returned to them or was sold off by the govt after govt occupied it. Hence why you get many protests in this country, and hence why this protest is going ahead. As of it passes govt can clean their hands of any debt, and ignore Maori concerns of any kind when using Maori land and resources. Waitangi tribunal pays out tribes for some of the illegally confiscated land and assets (illegal by the govts own laws), however these pay outs are always for less than market rate, often less than 1% of it's value. So no mate, far from having it straight

Otherwise we devolve into tribalism with people of different ancestry having different rights or benefits. Do New Zealanders need DNA testing or is everyone equal under the law as this Bill states? The protesters are misguided…the Bill benefits all New Zealanders.

It shows that when the need arises, our people can mobilise with unity and strength. To give those who weren't there or who aren't from Aotearoa a sense of what the atmosphere of the hīkoi was like-imagine a typical Sunday barbecue, but with 50,000+ family members turning up to share a meal. Maori are not indigenous to nz, they came by waka/canoe to new zealand/aotearoa, factually they actually exterminated the first inhabitants the moriori, ate them killed them and wiped them completly out, there is said to be a tiny trace of moriori bloodline left on the chatam islands however there is no physical proof thats true. So basiclly its a arguement about who stole it first, the maori arguement is, we stole it first its ours, the brits who later came obviously settled then colonised it with a pen. The bill in question is about defining what the principals of the treaty mean for all people of new zealand current. Equal rights for all new zealanders wheter they think they are indigenous or not. White kiwis know we are not indigenous, although i would argue that as i was born here, but my ancestors came from germany england and Scotland. Maori would believe 700 years of settlement in nz makes them indigenous, however their roots trace back to micronesia east asia later polynesia then hawaii finally calling nz home.

No citizen should be above any other citizen. The Māori cannot be considered superior to the rest. The absurdity displayed in parliament is beyond comprehension-a war haka is not an argument to win a discussion. The use of a haka in this context is ridiculous, especially given that the Māori have been losing wars since they massacred and enslaved the first humans to arrive in New Zealand. It’s a showy display that doesn’t intimidate anyone.

Referendum win /lose or not the focus seen is getting rid of the Crown, The British Crown that created the Treaty with Maori in the 1840s that is honored and protected by majority of Kiwis / Maori and majority of Parliament as of today. Over 250k signatures on petition to date and still climbing.

The most of NZ are not Maori. Maori were the most nz inhabitants in 1840, but as all natives stories in history, they were decimated by European illnesses, the war with the European, the wars European provoked among Maori differents clans and others European "customs". They used to be the 3/5 of population, but not any more. Something that "white" people do not understand it is why we must bet the rights already have won?... Act party is minority party of rich. They even are meddling now with the result of the last Referendum, the right to euthanasia if you want at the end of life. They want the Referendum be revoked by a bill. So they do not respect any Treaty, Referendum, law if they "think" is against their own interests and beliefs. It is all about the imposition of minority rich and greedy party.

Inaccurate reporting. These protesters wish to continue the blatant apartheid that has developed in response to decisions made in good faith by Parliament, Judiciary and Treaty of Waitangi Tribunal. The majority of New Zealander are tired of the preferential treatments Maori havr been awarded without recourse to voter's and seek a return to western style democracy (one person, one vote, all votes equally weighted) and equality before the Law. Our Parliamentarians and Judiciary have let NZ slide away from these ideals over the last 50 years. Its a bit of a mismash, there are no principles in the Treaty, however 50 year's ago Parliament stipulated they existed but failed to define them. Since then Judiciary, TOWT and a multitude of quasi-governmental officials have had a field day. Mr Seymour, who is Deputy Prime Minister elect and therefore not a junior MP, has democratically forced this bill to Select Committee, allowing all voters to present their opinion. This is the first opportunity that the public had had a chance to discuss this issue. So much for the concept of "by the people, for the people, of thr people" eh? Maori radicles are trying to destroy democracy in this country and many Parliamentarians are desperately clinging to power, stating this issue is too complicated for the general public to decide. The English speaking peoples have heard that one before!

The rights are in the Maori version. No fault of Maori that English change the version of what was spoken at Waitangi... what else you want that you already don't have? The Lands. Natives people respect the lands. They care their people balance with nature and live... what we have as "white" society? We born in a country but if you have no money you mother will have not medical help. As "citizens" of country your food, health, education, house, and retirement depend of if you are rich or not. And the greedy of "white" people is never satisfied. You do not mind society's division between poors and richs, you never say all must be equally rich. I am a "newcomers" as the Treaty says. And my rights are protected by the Treaty. We can speak our mother language because the Treaty says so. Otherwise it will be as USA where English speakers feel in the right to hush the rest of immigrants... but it is good you express your real motives to provoke this unrest in NZ. It is so good, people of NZ could see you and your kind are no worried about creating more good jobs, health, good and fair education, infrastructure, climate change or future. It is good to see what are "priorities" of your kind. Always is ok to see the real color of a "good kiwi"... my son is doing an essay about the racism and intolerance in NZ. Guess? I will pass your so illustrative comments to their group. Have a great day.

@@AR-fw9rj Please do. And I'd really appreciate a copy of your son's essay when completed. Don't be duped. Seymour's race-baiting bill isn't about equal rights, quite the opposite, and he made a slip and showed his true intention in an interview on Checkpoint, claiming he misspoke and lamely said he didnt know where the word came from. To quote from Time to tell the real story on ACT’s divisive bill..."it misrepresents the story of Māori development as Māori privilege. It gaslights us into thinking that one of the most underprivileged groups in New Zealand is being uniquely and unfairly advantaged, despite all social and economic indicators, across health, education, housing, corrections etc, proving otherwise. As someone who has followed big-money politics in the UK and the US, it seems obvious to me that ACT's aim is to diminish the rights of Māori to have control over their interests, so that billionaires and big-money donors who fund ACT can take advantage of a looser regulatory environment in New Zealand. Seymour's repeated story about “race” and “equal rights” is just a red herring. Engaging with this story will only perpetuate the myth of Maori privilege."
